New to board 2nd MMC

Hello ladies,

I am new to the group. This is probably the hardest thing my husband and i have ever been through.

My first mmc was this june. We got pregnant on the first try. They found momo twins. They stopped progressing around 5/6 weeks (only yolk sac seen maybe one fetal pole right before my d &c at 9.5 weeks)

After my d and c in early july my husband and i started trying again after my first period post d and c which was 4 weeks and 1 day after the procedure. We got pregnant and i was put on progesterone. The dr checked me at 6 weeks and knew it was another mmc. I just got checked again at 7 weeks 2 days and it was the same last week just a yolk sac (measuring around 5 weeks). My hcg was 48000.
Theyre running tests to see if there is a reason.

Has this ever happened to anyone?
Are two d and cs safe (in 3 months)?
I was reading an article i found on a board about hyperfertility does anyone know about that?
My dr wants me to see a specialist but i heard we have to wait for 3 mc.

I am just wondering why twice in a row there was no fetus or heartbeat...

@Nmtg7 First, I'm so sorry for your losses. I had a MMC in July with D&C, then conceived in September, which was the first cycle I ovulated after the D&C. I found out last week it was a CP. Personally, I would not have a second D&C so soon. Repeat D&C's can cause scarring and that's just one more thing for me to worry about. For my first MMC, I used Cytotec. I won't say it was a fun experience, but it was better for my uterus. Regardless, do whatever is best for you physically and emotionally.

Also, re: three miscarriages, the generally accepted guidelines have changed from three to two. Many doctors still go by three, but why put yourself through it again if you can find an answer now? Thus far, my recurrent losses are unexplained, so unfortunately, you many never have an answer. The good news is that many women have recurrent losses and go on to have healthy babies.

As for hyperfertility, it could be that or just bad luck. I've had four losses (three back to back) with 8-9 month gaps in conception between a couple pregnancies. *TW* I also have 2 living children. *End TW* I've never been diagnosed as being hyperfertile and I don't believe I am. I just have shitty luck.

@nmtg7 I’m so sorry for your losses. I agree with @ruby696. I’ve had 3 losses and had d & c with each one but they were 9 months apart and for me I just needed to have it over so I could move forward and my body had not recognized the loss so I didn’t want it to take forever

@ruby696 I am so sorry for your losses. I really appreciate you answering me back. I think i am going to see a specialist as soon as my results come back fro my drs original testing. I jist want to know if something is wrong... i hope not.

I just find it weird both pregnancies havent progressed past the yolk sac and we never had a hb with either pregnanct

@Mack2342 2342 iam so sorry for your losses. Were your losses early mmc?
If you dont want to share thats okay. Mine were both 5-6 weeks they stopped growing

@nmtg7 my first loss was at 10 weeks and measured at 10 weeks. Dr thinks heart stopped beating the morning of my US. The other 2 were 5 and 6 weeks basically just a sac. With those two I should have been 8 and 7 weeks. I did genetic testing on the last one and found that two sperm fertilized the egg. Which RE said it could have been a fluke thing or bc I’m older (43) that my eggs are just allowing any and all sperm. That part we will never know

@nmtg7 I've seen heartbeats with two and then lost them, and then I've had two losses right around 5 weeks. I have no idea why I lost any of them. I may get some answers with recent testing, but a lot of RPL is unexplained . I'm expecting to fall under that category. I don't want to get my hopes up for answers that may never come. And realistically, there may be different reasons for the various losses.

I’m so sorry for you losses!

*TW* LC mentioned below: I’ve had 2 MMC (stopped growing around 5/6weeks, never saw a heartbeat, discovered at 8 weeks—didn’t change at all at 9 weeks). I had a D&C and then a second D&C for retained products less than a month later. I had a chemical pregnancy and then DD. I had difficulty delivering the placenta and was dx with focal placenta accreta. In January of this year, I got pregnant again. Went in at 7 weeks and it didn’t look great—barely measured 6 weeks, a week later there was appropriate growth but had a low heart rate, a week and a half later the heart had stopped. I will say that I transferred to a new, swanky office from a less cutting edge midwife practice with an ancient ultrasound machine. I’m pretty sure their machine wouldn’t have picked up the heartbeat because of how far the tech zoomed in (the midwives’ machine did not zoom much, if at all). Anyway, took cytotec to avoid D&C #3 had some bleeding. Waited 2 weeks got another ultrasound and my uterus was still “packed”. Had my 3rd D&C anyway because I can’t seem to shed placentas on my own. Doc noted there was a “sticky spot” and needed an ultrasound to confirm she got everything. I’m starting my final cycle before they’ll check for problems but I suspect I’ll get HSG to check for scaring because I doubt this month is magical.

@nmtg7 I’m so sorry for your losses. I’ve also had two MMC and chemical pregnancies in between. However, I didn’t wait for the three losses before I went to see a specialist. I just felt like there was definitely something wrong and I do not feel like I can emotionally go through another D and C. I’m still working on getting answers but I feel better knowing we are working on it. I hope your doctor can provide you with some insight and that you find a helpful specialist if you choose to go that route.

I am so sorry you are going through this. RPL is so very discouraging. I can't help but wonder about hyperfertility as well. I've had 3 pregnancies, all ending in miscarriages. I know this isn't a popular thing to say but all 3 times I got pg very easily. I then took a break, did some research, started taking ubiquinol and other supplements to get my eggs healthy and the few months weve been able to TTC again, we haven't had much luck. I feel now that my eggs are healthier, my body isn't accepting just any old egg again. I don't know, who knows really, but I think there could be something to it. I know @rowedking6 had done some research on it

nmtg7 I'm sorry for your losses. I have heard theories about hyperfertility, but as far as I'm aware, it's still JUST a theory right now. Additionally, as stated above, many doctors consider 2 losses with no living children to be RPL. Call your insurance company and ask, also check with the RE to see how they will bill it. Sometimes it's all in the codes they use. But, you should definitely check to see if you have infertility coverage in your policy. Just a word of advice though, PLEASE be aware that 50-75% of RPL goes unexplained. I would still encourage the testing to rule out anything obvious, but please also know that many of us do not get our answers. I always think more information/knowledge is better to make informed decisions about your future. Also, even though many of those unexplained RPL sufferers do go on to have a baby eventually, be aware that not everyone gets that chance either.

As for the D&Cs, I've only had one, so I cannot comment on having them back to back. I'd be more concerned about your emotional state at this point, and would consider self-benching for several months. Even if it were to just focus on yourself for a bit, both physically and mentally.

Hopefully you will hear something from the testing from your loss. That could really help you make a decision on whether to try to get testing now, or wait.

I am.so sorry for your losses. I went to two ob to get a second opinion. Both are recommending d and c
One said to make sure they get it all and also to test for any abnormalities

This sounds like me. I got pregnant right after birth control ( we waited to try 1 cycle after) and the first time we tried after my d and c (my drs recommended 1 cycle). I am going to see an re but i know the hyperfertility is a theory so far but every article i read i felt like this would explain it. What treatments or options would help avoid another mc? Also is ubiquinol a prescription medication?

I made an appointment with an re so hopefully they will test things that my ob hasnt tested yet. I am.still waiting on results from the ob test. We definitely are self benching for atleast 4 months. While we are benching we will be seeing an re to see if they find anything before we start trying again in 2019. We are emotionally drained. My ob had suggested another d and c to test but i am nervous for scarring that it can affect me in the future... the first d and c they did not test.

After the two losses and since my first pregnancy was very rare my ob recommened me to see a specialist. Whike my ob is doing his testing i madr an appt with and re because i know how long appts can take. I just want to know if these rpl can be explained and what my options are. Did you also have 2 d and cs if you dont mind me asking

@nmtg7 I started seeing RE in March 2017. I started with femara and IUIs. After 3 and no success we added injections to the mix and on the 3rd one got pregnant but it ended at 6 weeks. They offered us IVF but it was not for us. I am 43 so my age plays a big factor in the losses. However unfortunately there is nothing one can do to guarantee that there will not be a loss. But for a lot of people that find themselves here they move on to have healthy pregnancy. So I would hang on to that! Also ubiquinol is coq10 ubiquinol and is sold over the counter. You want to take 400 mg a day

@nmtg7 I did have two D and C’s. They were about 10 months apart. In between the two I had testing done with my RE and they checked for scarring from the first and there wasn’t any. They didn’t seem concerned about me doing the second one either.
