1st Trimester

Spotting at 8 weeks after seeing the heartbeat

I went to see my doctor on September 18th (also my birthday)  and got to see my baby and hear the heartbeat for the first time! Heartbeat was healthy and strong at 168. A few weeks Before my u/s I has some light spotting for a few days. (around 4.5 weeks). Then it all stopped and everything was fine.  Well I am now 8 weeks and 4 days and for the last couple of days I have had some more spotting.  It wasn't much at first,  only could tell when I wiped after going to the bathroom. We'll last night my husband and I got a night alone and went to a college football game.  It was a crazy game and we were constantly up and down from our seats.  We also parked about a mile from the game and had to walk there and back to our car after the game.  It was the most exercise I have had with this entire pregnancy. (although I used to do a 4.5 mile run 4 days a week)  but  today I am bleeding a little more and it is now red.  (Also my husband and I made love last night and this morning)
The bleeding is not heavy,  and it is not reaching my clothing.  Only see it when I wipe. No tissue/clots or anything like that.  I do have a little but of pain, but I think that's honestly from being so active yesterday.
This is my second pregnancy, (we have two children whom we adopted) and my first ended in miscarriage at 7w4d.  So this pregnancy is already farther along than that one.  But  I am worried something is happening with this one.  Any advice from you lovely ladies?  Anything is appreciated!! ❤️❤️

Re: Spotting at 8 weeks after seeing the heartbeat

  • Have you talked to your OB yet? I'd give them a call and let them know. For now, from my understanding spotting isn't something you should be immediately worried about unless it's red and accompanied by period-like cramping. I had a bleed after my 8 week ultrasound with my first but it was because my cervix was so sensitive from the progesterone suppositories. I called my RE to tell her and she suggested I lay down for the night with my feet up and call again in the morning if I had more bleeding and cramps. But she sounded unconcerned. If you had heavier activity than usual that could dislodge some of the uterine lining and cause bleeding.

    But still... call your OB!

  • Definitely give your OB a call and get it checked out if you can. In my first pregnancy, I had one single large spot of bright red blood when I wiped and freaked out. Everything was fine.
