International Travel with IVF Meds

Hi!  I live in the U.S. and recently had my 2nd FET and have to travel to the UK next week.  I'm currently taking IM progesterone and estradiol.  Does anyone know if I'm allowed to bring the syringes and medications in my carry on?  Any idea how UK customs might react?

Re: International Travel with IVF Meds

  • Not sure about internationally but you can def travel domestically. The airline and/or TSA Page talks about how to pack them. Want to have them accessible as you go though security.

Have had to do this and traveled with ice packs to keep meds cool while traveling in 100+ weather.

    HOpe it’s partially a fun trip! :)

  • I visited family in England and then from there flew to Greece this past June after a FET. I had just finished IM progesterone, but was still taking Lovenox injections. I got a letter from my doctor explaining why I needed the medication and made sure to keep the syringes in the original box with the prescription label. All medicine and supplies I placed in a ziplock baggy so when going through customs I could easily take it out to show. I had no issues, and they honestly didn’t even ask or seem concerned. The airline rep at check-in said people travel with medication in the form of syringes all the time so it’s no big deal.  I was really nervous about the whole thing, but it turned out to be a breeze. Hope this helps!
  • Thanks ladies!  My doctor said today that she'd give me a note.  These meds are just so expensive, didn't want to risk them getting taken away!

  • This thread has been perfect timing for me, as we are flying to London in November to board a cruise ship and I'll (hopefully!) be taking PIO if this FET goes well. Question though, has anyone gone on cruise ships with their injections? Wondered what the process is and if a doctor's note is all I need. I can call the cruise line to find out but was just curious if anyone had done this, thanks!
  • @Momifbysea i went on a cruise this summer and had hoped to still be pregnant. i don't think they check your bags or anything... the only issue is that cruise ships wont allow you to board if you are over 24 weeks... if you're showing, they may require a note from your doctor saying your gestational age below 24 weeks.

most cruise lines have FAQs that include these details.

  • Thanks @northbeach3 I’ll do my homework in case I need a note.
