Infertility

IVF tips - child mentioned - loss mentioned.

Hi all.
First off I am sorry for every single person out there going through infertility.
I am new to this form so I will introduce myself. Kinda.

I am 26 years old. Have pcos. Started ttc at 22 years old. Went to a specialist and started iui
Second try was successfully (who knew how blessed we are) this was with 13 injections of menopur.

So fast forward to now. We have tried iui again 2 times. But my resistance to hormones is worse. (I need 24-30 injection to start making a folical)
My last cycle ending in a chemical pregnancy (hate the term because it feels like a loss to us)

So now we are going to try IVF as the doctor has said iui is not for us. Thankfully we can afford 1 try (financiall)
So I am here asking anyone who has had the same/similar and if they have any tips.

I am not sure why I need so many hormones now.

I do apologize if I offended anyone xx

Re: IVF tips - child mentioned - loss mentioned.

  • Welcome. Congratulations on your previous success and sorry about your challenges and loss. I was in a similar situation with 1 IVF try (***TW***). I almost gave up hope after my 3 failed IUI cycles, but this process taught me to have patience and believe that it can work. When I went to a new RE after the IUI cycles, he right away told me that IUIs would never work for me and I'm better off going the IVF route. Trust your doctor knows best. I went through my first IVF cycle scared, not knowing what to expect. I felt alone in the process so my suggestion is to use these boards for as much support as possible. Everyone here is great and I really appreciated the support I received when I first joined. My first cycle resulted in me having only 1 embryo to transfer when it came time for it. Fortunately, I had success with the cycle and now have my son. The process does work and you have to believe it can work for you. Good luck!

  • Thank you. This gives me hope
  • I have pcos as well. We tried for seven years and during that time did 5 IUIs, 3 rounds of ivf and 7 embryo transfers. We used follistim, low dose hch and ganirelex for the ivf round. I got pregnant on the 7th embryo transfer and am now 25 weeks pregnant (3rd pregnancy, but lost the first 2). I would ask your doctor about metformin. It’s said to improve egg quality for women with pcos- I had my best egg retrieval while on it.

I also took the following in addition to metformin:
    d3
    b6
    ovasitol
    magnesium
    neoq10
    prenatal
    fish oil
    baby aspirin
    lovenox

    best of luck!
  • Thank you.
Unfortunately they said my glucose and insulin levels are normal. So they won't look into other medications.
I really don't feel like I have typical pcos as I don't gain weight. I just have irregular cycles and darker hair (like belly button area)
  • that is unfortunate- I don’t have insulin issues either and just struggled with irregular cycles. I was put on a low dose of metformin for egg quality. I went from 2- five day blasts to 15.
  • Will definitely ask again. Thank you
