Random Acts of Kindness (or Sympathy lol)

Every now and then you get "special treatment" for growing another human when random strangers or co-workers go out of their way to give you a break. Yes, yes i know not everyone wants to be treated "different" or "special" for being pregnant but hey, sometimes it has perks and you bet I'm going to milk that for all it's worth (looking at you designated expectant mom parking spots at the grocery store).

Has this happened to you yet? Tell me about it! Because sometimes the "Say What?????" thread (while super amusing and necessary to rant on) gives me no hope for human kind and common courtesy...

  • My coworkers constantly feed me. One brought in the little Munchkins from DD the other day and put them on my desk so I could get first dibs before sharing with the team. If anyone stops and grabs a sandwich or something they almost always grab two so I can have the other one.

  • We ordered lunch today for my boss’s 20th anniversary with the company. His boss, instead of asking him what he wanted, asked me if I had been having any cravings and where I wanted to order from.
  • I have this one co-worker, a bachelor in his 50s, who is one of those guys that women just gush about. "He's so sweet! He's so helpful!"
And he is both of those things, but also a bit... I don't even know the word! I don't want to say odd or obsessive, but sort of a bit of those things.
Anyway, I put off telling him about the pregnancy forever until it started to become too apparent, because I didn't want him obsessively taking care of me. But here it is, that time. I was carrying some boxes, moving things around with a cart... He came in, saw it happening, RAN over and took over the entire operation! I also had a male security guard do the same thing with one of my equipment shipments - so there he was, old guy with one lung, insisting on moving my equipment for me.

On one hand I want to be all, "Wait just a minute - I'm not helpless!" On the other hand, it's getting harder to breathe well, I can't use my belly area to help with lifting anymore (which apparently I did before, but never noticed because my belly has always been nondescript), and I'm just tired. Let 'em do the lifting. lol
  • Overall everyone I have worked with has been amazing... most are women though who work in kitchens so they understand having a demanding job and being pregnant.
Today was a moment where I almost cried though. I work in a central kitchen for a school district but as admin and I was grabbing the morning staff meal and they had orange juice out. I was in a rush and the minute I sat down with my orange juice in my office the payroll clerk came up to me and told me every woman in the kitchen urged her to come tell me not to drink the orange juice cause it was a day old and they were worried about the baby. I almost cried just because I have worked a lot of jobs where my health came last but these ladies were sweet enough to be looking out for me in such a small way.
  • I desperately had to use the bathroom while out around downtown so I ran into a random bank and even though they had an "employees only" bathroom that was back behind the secure area, the lady at the counter didn't hesitate when she saw my baby bump and gave me her badge and walked me back so I could use it.
Thank you kind stranger for saving my dignity from a near miss of pissing my pants.
