STM Check in w/o 9/12

We haven’t done one of these in a while so...

How far along are you? How big is baby?

How many kids do you already have? Ages?

How are your other kids doing this week?

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)

Re: STM Check in w/o 9/12

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 9w3d - babies are cherries/the size of a soda can tab? wtf cherries are you eating TB gods?

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS - 3.5

How are your other kids doing this week? Well - HFM is going around daycare and he fell on his face and had to go to the dentist yesterday but other than that he's ok. We told him about the twins and he's super uninterested half the time and the other half asking silly questions and laughing.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I went into this pregnancy thinking SWEET. I KNOW THIS STUFF. And thinking we were preparing with a crib and everything we could possibly need for a baby. And now boom. Twins. I have no clue details about twin pregnancy and now I have to go buy stuff we already have because we need twice as many.  And holy hell double strollers are freaking EXPENSIVE.

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not) Instagram, gChat, Kindle, At Bat. The random game I'm playing a lot (which changes every few weeks) right now is Hole.io.

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 10w2d...strawberry/lego man

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1DD she is 2

How are your other kids doing this week? Been waking up in the middle of the night the past few days crying. I don't know if it's nightmares or not but my DH or myself have to lay with her in her bed to get her to calm back down. Other than that she's been starting to repeat EVERYTHING we say so we are having to be extra careful with how we talk about things.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Daycare wants us to bring in diapers despite us having her potty trained. I'm slightly annoyed. I get it, it's for naptime, and they said pull ups are fine, but she's dry for all her naps at home so why can't they figure their crap out instead of me shelling out more money than necessary...ugh

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not) podcast player, I'm into a ton of podcasts right now. Ovia and Calm (use it for sleep stories to help me fall asleep)

    9w6d, I think cherry

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    DS, 13 months

How are your other kids doing this week?
His mood swings are almost as bad as mine. I’m not sure whose the instigator at this point. He also started climbing so I have more childproofing and cleaning to do.

But he’s started saying “mommy” and it’s so cute!

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)
Pregnancy related: Ovia. It’s just really convenient for recording symptoms and other things, and I like you can change the theme of the size comparison so you’re not limited to fruit

Non pregnancy related: Wunderlist. DH and I share an account so as we think of things we need, we add it and then either one of us can pull it up when we’re at the store.

How far along are you? How big is baby? 8 +1 I think, I can’t see ticker on mobile. Kidney bean / Raspberry

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD-4

How are your other kids doing this week? Actually listening a lot better. So far 4 hasn’t been as bad as I was thinking. She been cleaning up her toys when asked easier and it’s made a world of difference. We did have a I’m standing in the bathroom but I did not make it to the toilet accident again. I think she’s doing it to get a bath.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
DH and I have had a mini vacation planned for ages and I’m super excited but I’m also already so tired just thinking about the activities we planned to do. So much walking. Also I’m pretty much constantly nauseous and that can put a serious damper on fun. I’m hoping since I’ll be 10 and a half weeks at the time I’ll maybe start feeling better (but I’m not holding my breath).

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)
    instagram, PokemonGo, buzzfeed, tasty, Amazon.

I really need a good pregnancy app. I have the bump but I don’t think it’s gives you the day by day. Sprouts is expensive and what to expect is eh.

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 8+4 - STM problem, I have to actually sit here and count. Last time, I knew down to the minute how pregnant I was.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? We have one DD who is almost 2.5.

How are your other kids doing this week? She's good but getting over a cold/mucus gunk. She coughs so hard she throws up so she had to come home early on Monday and we kept her home yesterday. She's finally starting to play better on her own and thinks she 18 instead of 2.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? You guys are going to think I'm nuts, but last night I was on my stomach falling asleep (I'm taking advantage of it as long as I can because those days are numbered....and reality is I'm barely doing it), and I swore I felt a little flutter where the baby is. And I know the baby is a speck at this point but I swear I felt a little flutter. I was probably half asleep and dreaming it.

Other than that, I'm ready for 2nd trimester when I feel great and have all of this energy. We have so many home projects that need to get done and not a lot of time to do them. Besides getting a grandparent to watch my tiny human, anyone have brilliant ideas on how to get stuff done with a 2 yo "helping?"

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)....I should probably get a pregnancy app other than TB. I pretty much use FB and the Dave Ramsey app.

@MRDCIe you'll be ok! And you probably don't need two of everything. If you want to, I would definitely be checking out consignment sales between now and then!

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 8+4; Rasberry or “wild” strawberry

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    Only 1 DD 15 months

How are your other kids doing this week?
She randomly started waking up in the middle of the night again. Of course, as soon as I start Unisom. She also has way more energy than me right now, and sometimes I feel like an awful mom turning the tv on and not playing with her. I’m just trying to survive this first trimester. =/

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
This pregnancy is so different from my last. I thought it would be much easier than it’s turning out to be.

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)

Pregnancy related- Ovia. Otherwise, amazon, wood puzzle (it’s relaxing), and AliExpress. I have an online shopping problem! Haha.

@MRDCle I can’t imagine having twins, I’m sure that had to be surprising! Congratulations though, you’re going to have a blast! Can’t wait to hear more about your journey with 2!
@wearegroot DD climbs on everything too, and it seems she is constantly finding things to climb despite babyproofing. This is a testing time for kiddos their age, hang in there!
@thatbaintforbetty A mini vacation sounds great! Where are you planning to go and what kind of activities?! I’m sure you’ll still have a blast. Just drink plenty of water and sleep in/stay well rested!

@mrdcle You don't need double of a lot of things, thankfully!  We only had one swing, one play yard but 2 bed attachment thingies on top, one jolly jumper, one (larger) playmat.  And yea, double strollers are highway robbery.  I suggest second hand if possible.
@angelob88 My dayhome is the same.  I don't like my girls wearing pull ups because it's still a diaper and the girls will use them if they want to so I find it counter-productive.  That's frustrating.
    @wearegroot "Mommy" is so exciting!!
@thatbaintforbetty Where are you going for your vacation?
@mrstmoose That's why I wait till mine are sleeping.  Their "help" is sweet but the worst haha.
@midwestmommy90 I love wood puzzle too!

How far along are you? How big is baby?  10+2  Ferrero Rocher! Tasty.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?  3 1/2 yo twin girls

How are your other kids doing this week?  One just got over a crazy fever that would not go away!  And no other symptoms so I have no idea what caused it or what she was fighting off.  Of course dayhome wouldn't take her with a fever.  H had taken the days off for Rosh Hashanah but missed all the services to stay home with DD.  He actually cleaned the whole main floor one day too.  I might have cried that day haha.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?  My bump (blump) gets so big as the day goes on, by 10am I look like I'm 18 weeks.

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)  I'm constantly on facebook and insta.

  • @mermaidca @midwestmommy90 we are going to San Fran! It’s one of my favorite places and it’s only like a 2 hour drive. We had planned it because of a concert but a punk concert isn’t really the place to be KU so we’re just going to the city. We made a new plan to climb the steps at Telegraph hill, see Coit Tower and maybe the parrots. It’s a lot of walking though so we’ll see. Probably going to hit ocean beach, might take some pregnancy announcement sand drawing photos but I’m not sure if we’re even going to announce it big time at all but I’d have them if I decided to.  And also eat seafood. Mmmmm. And probably hit the very best pizza place ever that’s owned by my great uncle. Ive been super excited about the trip but this pregnancy I just feel awful most of the time and don’t want that to ruin it.

  • @mermaidca that's always my intention but right now I totally nap when she naps on the weekend! I take advantage of sleep right now.
  • @MRDCle, congrats on two!  I agree with previous posters that you should definitely check out consignment sales.  We have a Club MOM in my area that is a great resource for gently used baby/toddler stuff as well.  Do you have any resources like that?

@angelob88, that's frustrating about the pullups.  I can kinda see why they would ask for it, but it's still annoying.  When do they "cut off," the diaper requirement?

@wearegroot, I might have to check out Wunderlist.  My DH has the bad habit of spontaneously making Wal-Mart trips without telling me, haha.

@thatbaintforbetty and @mrstmoose, I'll also second Ovia as a good pregnancy app.  It makes tracking symptoms and ultrasound pics/belly pics really easy.  Plus it's free!

@midwestmommy90, try not to beat yourself up about the tv time!  My kiddo has been getting a lot of video games lately because I have no energy to play.  It's only a phase, hopefully - this too shall pass, right?

@mermaidca, I feel the same way, flat belly when I wake up, and then the bloat is real by the time I get home from work, haha.  I'm looking forward to when I have an actual bump instead.

How far along are you? How big is baby?
10 weeks, a petit four (I love that Ovia has a Parisian bakery theme for size of baby, haha.  It makes my pastry chef heart happy.)

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    One 4yo son.

How are your other kids doing this week?
He's been a bit of a squirrel since we've been cooped up due to the rainy weather and my feeling like garbage.  I definitely think he's acting out a bit since my DH and I have been too tired to play lately between work and house stress.  Hopefully I start feeling better soon so we can give him a little more focus.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
I actually had energy to get a lot of the housework done this morning, but now I made the mistake of sitting down.  Whew.  I do not want to go to work tonight, lol.

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)
DownDog is a great (mostly free) yoga app that I use occasionally when I actually make myself find time for it.  I also like Ovia for tracking pregnancy stuff.

  • @kangstadt I'm not sure when the ban ends for that. I need to ask them when I pick her up tonight. DH was the one that informed me of it yesterday and he didn't quite dig in and get all the answers I want/need to see what is actually going on or the reasoning behind it. All assumptions at this point.

@thatbaintforbetty that vacation sounds wonderful! I wouldn't worry too much about it, I'm starting to feel a little better this week so you never know how you'll actually be. We had a super active vacation with DD when I was 23 weeks and we only had to modify slightly. There was still quite a bit of hiking/walking involved. Just listen to your body and if it's too much just enjoy all the amazing food because that sounds amazing!

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 8 weeks ish

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DS is 22 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Daycare dropoff has been tough this week so far, not sure why.  :/

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Getting very annoyed that it's still over a week before I get my dating u/s. I just want a due date, darn it!

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not) Facebook, Pinterest, Untappd (not now obviously), and our daycare app, Brightwheel.

@mrstmoose Our DS was very interested in when we were drilling screws and would actually sit and watch, then hand us screws when we'd ask for them. Any chance you can include your DD in something safe but involved? He's also often happy in his learning tower because he can see really well if we're doing something at counter/table height, is that an option? It keeps him contained but happy to see what we're doing.

How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    DD is 16 months

How are your other kids doing this week?
She still thinks it’s funny to scream in our ears. I’ve taken to quoting Elinor (DD’s name) in Sense and Sensability at her: “I will be calm, I will be mistress of my self.”

Besides that, this week has been one of major gratitude - DD is a micropreemie born at 26 weeks and is developing normally on her chronological schedule. We met another micropreemie at the library (a 24 weeker) with global delays, and saw a friend (32 weeker) with gross motor issues. I am SO thankful that we’ve been able to eliminate specialists over the past year and a half.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
I’m seriously bummed that jeans are only comfortable before 2 pm. I need more leggings.

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)
Facebook, tBump, and work-related apps (not really my fave but they are used more than daily).

@wearegroot aww, “mommy” :) and ugh to climbing. Luckily DD mostly stays on the floor, though she gets into every cabinet/drawer/shelf she finds open. It’s basically a game of “what do I not mind cleaning up that she can’t destroy?”

@thatbaintforbetty go to the homepage and try swiping left twice on the fruit - it gets to a slide that flips between weeks/days left and weeks/days completed. It’s annoyingly hidden.

@mrstmoose we usually stash DD in the stroller with a snack so she can see what we’re doing and call her a “safety observer.” She can’t just walk around the basement or garage, and upstairs she’s likely to track paint or something while dumping all the books out of the bookcases. That and we take turns doing projects in the basement.

@midwestmommy90 I wish the tv got my kid to stay still!

    Rants/Raves?
I visited the ob yesterday. She flew through information so quickly I had to interrupt her to ask questions and I was never asked "Do you have any other questions?" Which now bothers me because I have a list of unanswered questions I could have asked if she paused or didn't rush me through my appointment, or if I had been more bold and said something. I also wish I would have spoken up and asked if I could hear my baby's heartbeat for peace of mind. I assumed that was going to be part of my appointment- to make sure baby is ok- but it wasn't.
I did appreciate the doctor wanting me to take the glucose test at 16 weeks because I have PCOS.

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 9 weeks - a cherry!

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 - N (DD), 7 months old

How are your other kids doing this week? So far, so good.  My husband and I were both sidelined by a stomach virus late Monday night and we're doing everything in our power to keep it away from her.  It all hit around 1 AM technically Tuesday morning.  N slept through the worst of it, and my husband was able to get her to daycare as soon as they opened.  We had my in-laws pick her up and keep her Tuesday night.  By the time she came home on Wednesday, we were in recovery and we had bleached and cleaned the entire house.  Hoping against hope it skips her.  And in the meantime, it's so hard not to snuggle and kiss her up as much as I usually do!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? This is more of a dear diary than anything else, but I realized last night how much I'm prioritizing N over this LO.  Maybe it's because this pregnancy was unplanned or because of our history of loss - it's easier to think about N because she's HERE.  But I still worry about how N will be impacted by this baby being born while she's so little, and I still feel guilty, like we robbed her of something - namely, the time she should've gotten as our one and only baby.  Then I stop and realize this baby is a person, and I have to think about him or her too!  I'm sure it will become more real as we reach more milestones - finding out the gender, telling people, etc. - and I love this baby and want this baby so desperately.  But I already need to work on striking a balance!

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not) I'm pretty boring app-wise.  I guess Instagram is what I use most.  Now that N's in daycare, Bright Wheel and Watch Me Grow are in heavy rotation.
  • @ashtuesday I understand the prioritizing current baby over baby-to-be. I don’t think it’s bad necessarily, because to an extent they do need to be prioritized because they’re here already. Like if I lost this baby, I’d be really upset, but if I lost DS, I can’t even put into words the devastation. But eventually I’ll feel the same way about this one. And I always talk to DS and say “Who’s my favorite baby?” But I can’t say that anymore!

So today my mom came over after hanging out with her friends and apparently they asked her if I was having any more kids and she said “I told them you want more but not for a while. You need a break first.” I may need to tell her soon.

They have been getting really good at entertaining themselves which has been super helpful, but sometimes that "entertainment" has looked like sneaking 5 fruit snack packs and eating them all in secret, so....

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I feel pretty bad that I pretty much crash as soon as I get home from work and do nothing other than sit on the couch. DH has been pretty great though and has taken up making dinner and keeping the kiddos distracted. They still want to be all over me as soon as I get home, but have also been pretty understanding and give me space when I ask for it.

How far along are you? How big is baby?  8w2d, raspberry (although I'm still not confident on my EDD)

How many kids do you already have? Ages?  One son, justttt about 9 months

How are your other kids doing this week?  He's pretty good.  Getting really squirmy and antsy and a little whiny because he is just DYING to walk and get around on his own - he is making great progress pulling himself up and walking with help.  He had his 9m check up this morning and had to get a shot, which upset him even more than usual, poor little guy.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?  Rant: I'm going to be selfish in my bitching, just for a minute, because I've felt too terrible to say any of this out loud. My dad had a stroke two days ago, and I just feel so terrible for him - I am so focused on that that I am almost able to ignore the fact that I am hanging on by a thread.  H was away for work half of last week and most of this week and my dad is usually the one who watches my son while I work, so I've been on my own a lot and this pregnancy is kicking my ass.  I feel so sick and exhausted and I'm so behind on my job and house work that I have no idea how I'll catch up, and of course I feel like none of this should even be a fleeting thought.  Rave:  They moved my dad out of the CCU last night so today I was able to bring the baby over to see him and OMG what a difference!  My mom said he was a little better when she got there a little earlier, but that she would not have believed the improvement when we arrived had she not seen it with her own eyes.  I feel so encouraged after our visit today!

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not)  Well, I'm obsessive, so right now I am really in love with the Owlet Connected Care app.  The regular Owlet app shows you current stats, but this one tracks trends overnight and so you can see averages and sleep quality and I think it's so cool!

@mrstmoose I'm with you on forgetting how far along I am this time around!
@thatbaintforbetty enjoy SF!  I lived in that area for a couple of years and spent a lot of time in the city - still visit lots because my in-laws live there.  Great place to visit but I could never get used to it never really being warm!
@ashtuesday I am definitely feeling the same about prioritizing my first.  I'm sure as things progress it will be different, or at least by the time this next one is born!

Edited because I wasn't actually done when I posted.

  • @Piccola1988, glad he helped take over bedtime!  That's always when I lose my last bit of patience.  My husband is also bad at prioritizing.  He's been doing projects around the house in his free time, but they're all outside projects that aren't the day to day chores that have piled up.  Sigh.  Hopefully we start getting more energy and feeling better soon!

@kangstadt it only drives me crazy because it 1) is usually done without looking at our cash flow or schedule for the month, and 2) prioritizes everything on his list over everything on my list. I mean, I agree that our glorious shade tree is sick and needs to come down, so he’s not wrong, but it would have been a lot easier and cheaper to weed the walkway and wall mount the tv when people were coming to visit the next day.

eta: the lesson here is that I need to do my list entirely by myself when I can pawn the kid off on him ;)
  • @lyse01, that's exactly my husband also.  It must have something to do with testosterone and their need to be alpha males and care for their mates or something .

How are your other kids doing this week? Meh, ok. Very needy lol but for a 3 yo and 2 yo I think that's just normal. 3 is SUPER excited for baby though. It's pretty cute! Although when she asks me if the baby is still in my tummy every morning it kind of weirds me out. Uhhhh I sure hope so?

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nothing pressing this week!

GTKY: What are your favorite apps? (pregnancy/parenting related or not) i'm a frequent redditor and am addicted. Buzfeed as well. My sister introduced me to a new app yesterday called one second everyday where I upload a pic or video each day and it makes a cute little collaboration!
