4. Well...I tried everything I could (except soccer), and finally accepted that I was an artist and not an athlete. I traded in cleats (did I even spell that right) for sheet music and scripts lol.
I failed miserably this week at doing anything I said I was going to do. BUT, I didn't gain any weight, so that's something I suppose. I really want to start walking again in the evenings. DH starts back to day shift this week, so he should be home in the evenings with DD now so that I can go walk.
@GeorgiaGirl1230 it's so hard with another kid. I'm lucky to have a flexible work schedule so I workout at lunch or first thing in the morning while DD is at daycare. Since I work from home, I can squeeze it in between calls and then jump in the shower when things slow down.
1. I did one workout on my sweat app and did a run/walk/jog every day (in my gym clothes sitting on the couch listening to a call but heading out in a few for today's). 2. Last week wasn't as good with meetings and such but getting my BFP really motivated me. 3. I like getting out for runs but I want to find time for yoga and other cross-training. Starting barre again next week, I think. 4. @GeorgiaGirl1230 I played soccer too (I think your spelling of cleats is right) and also ran track in high school. I haven't touched a soccer ball in years but track definitely helped me learn how to be more fit with workouts, stretching, etc. I run longer distances (ha...only 2-4 miles) than the sprint and long jump workouts required, now though.
As a side note, I just bought these acai freezer packs this morning that I can put in my post-workout smoothies and I'm so (disproportionately) excited!
1. I went to the gym and did some light cardio- elliptical, tread mill and bike. 2. Just walked last week. 3. I want to walk my DS1 to school more days than this past week and do the gym once while DS2 is at preschool. 4. I dabbled in a lot of different sports- basketball and swimming in high school, gymnastics, softball and soccer when I was younger. ETA: I don't do any sports now, just gym and walking mostly.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Last weekend I played in a soccer tourney so this week I mostly needed to recover from that! Walked and also got in one body pump class.
How did last week go? Ok! I have also been counting calories and trying to eat healthy in maintenance mode as I’m hoping to curb the first tri weight gain.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Get in 2-3 OTF classes, walking, healthy eating.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? Basketball and soccer. I still play soccer recreationally.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Went to Stroller Strides Monday and this morning
How did last week go? I only worked out once, oops!
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Go to Stroller Strides M/W/F
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I played soccer and ran track. I will run long distance sometimes but haven’t played soccer since college. Now I mainly do Stroller Strides. I was doing BBG as well, but I also incorporated intermittent fasting to lose the last of my first pregnancy weight but it got to be too much. I dropped BBG and since getting pregnant have stopped the fasting as well.
@GeorgiaGirl1230 Keep with it! Not sure where in GA you are, but we love walking around one of the hundreds of parks for a while and getting a sweat. Even little wins add up! Maybe there's a mom exercise meetup.
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm honestly so excited for stroller workouts. We have our sights on a jogger stroller as our primary stroller (they have a Chicco that goes with the Keyfit carrier).
@ElleJDubs Good for you for hitting the gym so often! I was also a swimmer in HS. Sounds like you had all the sports covered!
What did you do this week to keep moving? I started home yoga videos!
How did last week go? Not amazing. We did go on a couple walks to the grocery store...only to buy ice cream sandwiches.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Keep with the yoga 3 -4 times a week. Would be great to add in variety at our apt. gym, whether weights or moderate cardio.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I was a swimmer, primarily. I tried volleyball and b-ball, but I was just awful. They put me on those bottom-tier teams. LOL! But I was actually great at swimming. I'd like to find a pool, DH found one at a gym near his office. But it can be so hard to get back in a one-piece swimsuit this many years later.
@vl_16 They are so fun! Jogging stroller as your primary is smart, I have an UppaBaby Vista that I use for everything. It might be a little dicier to use that for working out with 2 but I have seen another mom there do that. If I need a jogging stroller I’d loooove a Thule but that’s some dreaming right there.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Went on a walk 2 nights of the week. Tried to park further and get in more daily steps.
How did last week go? So so. I’d like to get a Fitbit and keep my daily step count at 10K
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Walk 3-4 nights & 1-2 yoga videos.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit. Ha- I tried volleyball & softball. Hated both. Loved gymnastics but never went back after two years. I love spin class! Before having kids, i used to go 3x a week and it was awesome! The instructor was so positive and overall a cool person & most of the people that went were regulars. I really miss it, but we moved 45 mins away from that gym and it isn’t worth the membership & gas costs.
@vl_16 we got a Bob on black Friday for a GREAT deal but it isn't our primary. Love it for a lot of things but having used the regular stroller for so long, make sure if you use it as your main, whatever you look at has great storage underneath (an issue with my Bob - can't fit a full diaper bag easily) and the cup holder tray. We attached extra storage to both the regular and jogging stroller but if we take the Bob out and want to bring coffee or water, it's really annoying. Other models of Bob might have fixed this and other jogging strollers also might be better. I, personally, love having one for each purpose, though.
@vl_16 I have a jogging stroller and I love it! It was a hand me down, so I didn’t get to pick what kind, but Free is free! I originally had a graco click connect stroller so that I could use the infant carrier with it and it’s just a huge, heavy beast. The jogging stroller can go just about anywhere and is so much easier to push.
@kvh22 Running was about the only thing I ever could do, and I didn't pick that up until DD was born. I've run two half marathons, and then I quit again. I stayed home with DD her first year, and got in the best shape of my life bc I had the time to do a workout regimen from home and run every day. When I went back to work, all went to heck lol. I work for an investment firm, so I'm with clients all day long and can't get sweaty and smelly on lunches LOL. If only they'd understand!
@kvh22 thank you for posting! I completely forgot it was Fri-yay today!
What did you do this week to keep moving? Gym classes have been awesome this week. Tuesday and Thursday I ran 2 miles with the kiddos - so I was able to get 4 miles in total. I'm not a runner, so this a HUUUUGE for me. As well, I was able to make it to the gym and work out Sunday (weight training) and Monday (elliptical and some core). This end of the week got away from me a bit though, but I'm heading out camping with DH and DS so I will be hiking all weekend.
How did last week go? GREAT! And was even better through the weekend as Grandma and Grandpa babysat so I could get some exercise and chores done around the house uninterrupted.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? I'm hoping to get 2 weight training classes in this week - one on Monday and another on Thursday. I think I have my mom pinned down to babysit Monday night and Thursday, DH should be home for a hot second.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I was a big downhill skier in the winter growing up (Still am. I teach skiing super part-time at an incredibly exclusive resort in Montana - Yellowstone Club - look it up!) and raced through high school. I didn't keep it up through college because I was pretty small and lightweight and gravity plays a huge factor in success once you have a solid technique down. I also was big into softball in the spring - again played in high school. Fairly good at third base or left field.
What did you do this week to keep moving? I got 10,000 steps most days this week
How did last week go? eh- not so good. I am doing better this week
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Body Pump twice, spin at least once, and some walking
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit?- I played field hockey, softball, and basketball. There was a lot of running in field hockey and a lot of sprints in basketball. I was in okay shape then but actually in better shape now.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Made it to the gym every day this week! Pretty proud considering my morning sickness has appeared.
How did last week go? Working out went well, but my nutrition was awful. I already grocery shopped so I can meal prep this weekend so next week will be better.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Working out Monday through Friday
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I play zero sports now. I usually horseback ride 3 days a week, but stop when I’m pregnant. I used to play: soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and horseback riding.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Nothing. I chased my 2 year old around. I’ve got to go ahead and get into a routine.
How did last week go? I managed to get on the treadmill twice during my lunch break.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? I hope to be more consistent with getting on the treadmill during my lunch breaks, and try to start having family walks in the evening. My son hates the stroller and probably wouldn’t sit in his wagon very long, but we’ll see how it goes. I also hope this fitness post will keep me motivated and help me hold myself accountable!
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I cheerleaded in high school. It was competition cheerleading on top of cheering for football and basketball games. We had conditioning after every practice each day. I miss being in such great shape. To say the least, a lot has changed since those days haha!
@GeorgiaGirl1230 You sounds like me! Haha I just don’t know how to find the time to do anything between working full time and my 2 year old.
@DuchessOfCambridge Stroller Strides sounds so fun! I would love to do that with baby #2 on maternity leave assuming my town even has it.
@sparrowsnest22 Parking farther away is a great idea. That’s something I can manage! I would also love a Fitbit. It helps motivate me to keep up with steps or even calories on an app when I can see it.
@msb615 it’s a great workout! Full body, you meet other moms, and the kids all play together after. I’ve been going since my LO was 7 weeks old. Check fit4mom.com, you can search locations. I don’t have one in my town but I drive a half hour each way because I like it so much.
What did you do this week to keep moving? This past Monday was when I got my BFP, so I tried to do my normal walk/ jog with my dog, but was so nervous despite everything I've read saying exercise is okay and encouraged.
How did last week go? I definitely over did it at work Wed b/c I was going to be off Thur and Fri. Been eating very well b/c I challenge myself to be Vegan for Sept OOTB. Would love any tips if anyone has them!
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Ramp up the intensity and find something low impact for an evening routine.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? Basketball b/c my mom made me do it since I was so tall compared to her. I'm 5'8" she's 5'1". I don't play any sports now and neither does DH.
@DuchessOfCambridge@kvh22 thank you for the suggestions! looking literally right now Curating a private list on Amazon to prep for registry time.
@sparrowsnest22 noted on the heavy Graco stroller! That's been my biggest concern. We live a couple floors up so lugging something like that might be a bit of a pain.
What did you do this week to keep moving? I'm finally almost done with this stupid cold, so the dog and I did about 3.0 miles every day since Wednesday. That's not quite as good as our usual 3.5, but I have to pee so much lately that I can't make it the whole time without coming home for a bathroom break.
How did last week go? Not great, but I was really sick and we had guests in town so it was hard to eat right and go for my walks.
What are your hopes for this week? Walking every day, and getting back into my yoga routine.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? I played men's and women's ice hockey up until college.
What did you do this week to keep moving? I went to the gym walked the Treadmill and elliptical.
How did last week go? didn't know I was pregnant yet but had the same routine.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Add a 3rd day each week.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I played everything: soccer, basketball, softball, track, and volleyball. I'm set to start my next rec volleyball league next week. Might be the last season I play b/c after that second trimester will start.
First of all, I think these constant weekly check ins on various subjects are so cool and certainly a change from when I was on the June 2014 BMB (it wasn't so structured which basically led to a lot of weird and/or snarky posts). Secondly, I was soooo bad during my first pregnancy - totally ate whatever I wanted, never exercised. I went from never being overweight my entire life to now struggling with my weight. I'm still pretty heavy (lost a lot of the weight through breastfeeding but my weight skyrocketed after I stopped bf when DD was 1, so I'm really trying to monitor what I eat and exercise this time around.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Make myself take the stairs at work and never the elevator. That's not too much (2 flights in the parking garage and then 4 flights to my office from the lobby) but I figured I have to start somewhere.
How did last week go? Didn't know I was pregnant but was trying to get back in shape already based on getting scared by how high the weight on the scale was. Cut out a lot of crappy foods I eat. This week was my birthday so I wasn't that great on the eating healthy front...
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? Get in 10,000 steps a day. This was so easy pre-DD but I get around half that now. Guess I don't run around after DD as much as I think I do...
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? I danced hula and was a cheerleader in hs. Got into running sporadically off and on since college.
What did you do this week to keep moving? I was able to do my 3 mile run two days and gym for weight training two days. Five mile hike today, so I met my 5 day goal!
How did last week go? I had a harder time regulating my breathing when running, but I didn't know I was pregnant. So that explains it. Otherwise, I powered through.
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? The usual - run daily (treadmill counts, right?), and weight training twice.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? Soccer! Haven't played in years, but I loved it.
@Pahialii I was the same way with my first pregnancy and enjoyed eating whatever I wanted. I assumed I could get all the weight off with breastfeeding, but breastfeeding didn’t work out with us, and that weight stuck around for way too long. Granted I was 10lbs over what I needed to be when I got pregnant, but my son was 18m by the time I got to my prepregnancy weight and lost the extra 10lbs. Definitely want to be more conscious about exercising and eating healthier this time around. It’s just so hard to find the time.
What did you do this week to keep moving? Did a 30 min yoga video Tues morning & ran almost 4 mi this morning. Would've loved to do something else too, but my work schedule was crazy so, eh.
How did last week go? I'm lucky to remember what I did this week lol I def don't remember last but I think it went well?
What are your hopes for this coming week for exercise? 3 workouts, of at least 30 min. Would love to do another outdoor run, a kettlebell video, and either a tabata/cardio/or barre video. I do most of my workouts in my basement with youtube.
GTKY - What sports did you play growing up? Same or different as what you do now to say fit? Softball, lacrosse, & tennis. I definitely don't play any sports now, but I've always liked to run so that's the only fitness activity I did growing up/still do now.
My first pregnancy I gained 50 lb. even though I was very active throughout the whole thing and ate pretty well overall. I'm gonna try to not gain as much this time, but am hoping that even if I do I'll be able to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (or close enough) since I was able to do that after my son. I'm glad to see so many others here who are committed to staying active & healthy!
@aprilmaymama how long did it take you to get back to prepregnancy weight the first time? I’m still losing weight right now (though I’m not actively trying to anymore) and am about 4.5 pounds from prepregnancy. My DS is 10 mo so I feel like it’s been a while! I gained about 30.
@minnemiska I work out at OTF too and love it- been going 5x/week for about 2.5 years! My heart rate is getting in the Orange/Red zones faster, so I’m having to slow down and am afraid people will be on to me shortly!
Is this your first? This is my third (daughter is 6 and son is 3), and I’m hoping to continue working out the entire time.
@DuchessOfCambridge I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight about 9/10 months postpartum, but my body is def different - like my boobs became totally non-existent once I stopped bf'ing lol I would love to only gain 30 lb this time but I feel like I've already gained 5
eta: apparently my username changed? I tried changing it a few days ago so I guess it finally worked ha oh well
Re: Fit Friday 9/14
1. Nothing
2. Poorly
3. Do anything!
