I'm just about to start reading Lilac Girls with my book club (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25893693-lilac-girls). I'm excited about it. Has anyone read it?

Of course, I'm also working my way through a bunch of pregnancy books too.

What to Expect, a month-by-month from the ACOG that my ob gave me, and I have a couple breastfeeding books I want to start looking at soon-ish.

I'm about to start Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. I've heard it's pretty disturbing so we'll see if I can make it through while pregnant (I already have the weirdest dreams, I certainly don't need a book to exacerbate the problem!).

In my last pregnancy I read all the Elena Ferrante Neapolitan novels/the ‘My Brilliant Friend’ series. That was the most reading I’d done in a long time because, life. The series was excellent.

The best pregnancy book I’ve read is Birthing From Within. Super empowering and positive. Written by a nurse who had a c-section first and VBACs later. I will be sure to re-read it this pregnancy too.

@maggiemadeit I very much enjoyed that book. If you like that one, you may also like The Nightingale! (I didn't see last month's book board, so I apologize if that was already suggested!

Currently reading "1-2-3 Magic" to tame my 4-year old, an Anatomy and Physiology textbook (ha) for a class, and Summer Rental for a totally lighthearted pre-bedtime book.

Still Outlander Echo in the Bone. It’s been a slow read for me.

@maggiemadeit Have you watched the PBS series of Call the Midwife? (I’m guessing it based on the book. I enjoyed the first few seasons, but didn’t stick with it.

@candypantsls I also second The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah!

@purpleteacher82 No, I haven’t watched it yet because I wanted to read the book first. But I have been re-watching Downton Abby and I keep seeing the ad for it and I kind of want to watch it instead of read it now...

I just finished Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and Persepolis Rising (7th book in the Expanse series) by James S.A. Corey.

@candypantsls and @maggiemadeit I also really liked The Nightingale! Have you read All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr or The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult? They are also set during WWII and really good.

@Morningstar80 I just finished All the Light We Cannot See. I gave up on it after 100 pages last time and I am so glad I tried it again!

Oooh! I missed out on the last book discussion! I love finding new titles to read.
I just finished When Breath Becomes Air, just started Mastering Your Mean Girl (I've been into "self-help" lately?), and I have Behind Closed Doors waiting for me to pick up at the library

@purpleteacher82 I need to dig the Outlander series back out! I made it halfway through The Fiery Cross but it bugged me how long they took to read and I wasn't completing my Goodreads challenge - pathetic, I know! But I loved the story line & I'm pretty sure I own the whole series.

I didn't realize Call the Midwife was an actual book. I guess I should have? I'll have to find it at the library. I've watched most of the seasons. I don't have tv so watch once it's on DVD. I have a hard time watching it though. I was watching one of the episodes (spoiler? Maybe?) where an unwed mother gets her baby taken away. (End spoiler) My daughter was napping, and I so wanted to go pick her up and hug her! I alternate during that show being repulsed, wanting to go cuddle my baby and being SO happy I'm having babies in the time period I am and not in the past.

Currently rereading the Ralph Moody series. They're pretty fun.

Currently reading "13 Things Mentally Strong People DON'T Do" by Amy Morin, and my pastor Nicole Crank has a book called "Hi God, it's me again-what to pray when you don't know what to say"...its a devotional but you can read it through, so i have been flipping through it as well.

The Year of the Hangman...I can’t recall the author at the moment!

@Morningstar80 I also enjoyed All The Light We Cannot See and The Storyteller. Both are very good books. I went through a WWII kick and read quite a few set in that time period.

@HoneyBear40 The Outlander series is definitely a time commitment. I haven’t read anything else for the last 2-3 years. Some of the books do move slowly. I’ve been reading this one for awhile now. I just don’t pick it up very often. I do love the story line though!

@maggiemadeit Little Fires Everywhere was a quick read even though it wasn´t majorly exciting. I just liked the author´s voice so I´m going to check out her first novel, Everything I Never Told You.

@purpleteacher82 I have read so many books set during WWII I´ve lost count! I would welcome any recommendations, though

@Morningstar80 I liked both books, be prepared to cry over the first one!

I just read the Frieda Klein series by Nicki French. They were quick reads for me - done in an afternoon - and nothing spectacular but they were enjoyable. I'm also reading "Suicide of the West" by Jonah Goldberg and he's a great writer but my attention span for nonfiction is not that strong these days. If I'm not getting lost in a novel, I'm distracted by baby thoughts!

Has anyone read Confessions of a Domestic Goddess by Bunmi Laditan? I remember reading the teasers on her Facebook page and busting a gut laughing. The book is great (for what it is...) and probably perfect for those of you looking for a quick, lighthearted read.

@Morningstar80 me too!! It gets awkward when I read in public places. I've cried reading on airplanes, etc, before. Laughed too, but the crying is more awkward.

@babycolima12, in public is the worst! And I have definitely scared a few people in the past sitting next to me on the train when I have audibly gasped/laughed at something I was reading/watching.

@MorningStar80 I have read All the Light We Cannot See, and enjoyed it... I have not heard of the Storyteller but it sounds soooo good and I haven't read a Jodi Picoult book in forever! That's next on my list now, thanks!
