I’m shopping for a doula but it’s hard to find one available around the holidays! I’m due 12/26. I had a great doula w/DD 2 1/2 years ago but she’s not practicing anymore so we will interview a few and go from there. Anyone else hiring a doula?
I have! That’s frustrating that you can’t find anyone for around the holidays I’m due 12/12 so I’m not sure if my doulas taper off clients or what, but in any case there are 3 of them, so they take shifts as needed.
It’s been a while since we had a natural/med-free thread started. Would anyone get any use out of another one?

@PensiveCrayon I think it would be helpful! I loved that chart you posted with the stages and signposts. It would be nice to have a place with resources like that - I need to brush up on my relaxation methods and tips and tricks for everything! I’m starting to get nervous
I am planning to have a doula. My OB recommended a group practice that works well with the medical team at the hospital. I need to follow up, but in my initial call I was told there would be someone covering even for my holiday time EDD (12/27).
Like @Erinka I will be delivering in a hospital with OB attending. I expect at least 50% likelihood of having to be induced again. I am hiring a doula for support and to help me stay focused and remember to use skills etc. I would prefer to avoid pain meds because I want to be able to feel enough to push effectively, and because opiates make me puke and usually break out in a rash.
MH tends to panic and defer to medical providers, especially when he’s worried about me. I am an awesome advocate usually, but wasn’t in any state to be clearheaded and articulate during labor last time, something I really didn’t count on.
Not planning on using a doula but I would also be interested in the revival of the med free thread. If I don't have to be induced this time (still tbd) I may want to try to go med free. I have a fainting issue and getting an epidural triggers it, so if I can avoid it I might try, (but not if my labor is 27 hours in the hospital like last time!) But anyway I'd love to lurk or occasionally participate in a med free thread!
I'll also be delivering at a hospital with an OB -- both because Alabama is a bit behind on the times (midwife-assisted homebirths are illegal here) and because H will never let me have a home birth again after what happened last time.
Re: husbands, the doula is honestly going to be as huge a help to my husband as she is for me. Last time he felt like he had to be with me 100% of the time and was so exhausted by the end that when the true emergency did come up, he had to deal with it on zero sleep. The doulas will relieve him of that need to be by my side constantly and, I think, help him with the anxiety that I'm sure he'll have going into this birth.
I'll go ahead and start the med-free thread. I don't really have any prompts, which is why I haven't been starting it (where the heck did @Gwyneddlesliegrace go BTW?) but it can at least be a place for anyone to talk about anything related!

@PensiveCrayon the last I saw of her was when we weren’t kicking people out of the natural birth thread if they wanted to talk about c-sections, because shit happens.
I’m really torn about having a doula this time around. My midwife thinks it would be a good idea, and recommended a few in our area. I’m hesitant only because I know I don’t like a bunch of people around during labor, and I really hate being touched or anyone really even talking to me during contractions. I just feel like she’d annoy me more than help.
@awells189 Yeah, this place isn’t the most forward. I always imagined more birthing options for my LO’s bday...but I’m just doing the hospital thing because it’s what you do here.
