Insomnia

Does anyone have any tips on getting a good night's sleep? I would rather not take over the counter medication but I work full time and have two kids and I'm going on no sleep at all- its driving me crazy!
ETA- if taking something over-the-counter will get me through these couple of weeks then I am willing to do it but of course I don't want to do anything that is unsafe for the baby.

  • I’m pretty sure unisom is the mildest otc sleep aid and totally pregnancy safe. But I haven’t tried it so I’m sure somebody else can verify.

Drink a glass of warm milk/tea and maybe take a bath?

Whats keeping you from sleep? Trouble falling asleep? Waking up a lot? Waking too early and trouble going back? I feel like each have a different recommendation to help.
    this is my backup acct.

  • I've been doing 1/2 a unisom at night and it's working wonders! I'm finally getting a decent night's sleep- I still wake up occasionally, but fall right back to sleep. I tried 1whole pill, but was too groggy, so it really depends on how sensitive you are. My Dr. was who recommended and said it's completely pregnancy safe. Good luck!!
  • I take one unison at night and I haven't had trouble sleeping since I was 5 weeks. I was really struggling for about a week.
  • As other said, Unisom is safe during pregnancy, unfortunately for me it doesn't work. I have struggled with sleeping for years and took some pretty serious sleeping meds before becoming pregnant.  Unisom does nothing for me, so I'm really struggling too.  I hope you find some relief!
  • I'm going to pick up some Unisom! I ended up trying Benadryl (generic) last night and It worked great but If Unisom is more gentle, I'll try that from now on.
I wish there was just one reason or cause to it- I have the worst time falling asleep, although I'm not actively worrying about anything, and I wake up at all hours. I have cut out coffee, so I know caffeine isn't a problem, and I keep trying to push bedtime earlier to no avail.
I'm also going to try a cup of tea tonight and keeping my phone in the guest room to avoid late night facebooking temptation.
    Thanks for all the wisdom!

  • 4-7-8 breathing is very calming and helps me relax and go to sleep easier sometimes too.

  • @happynanny Everyone says it, but the Snoogle pillow is helping already.  I slept terribly for a few weeks without it - slerp improved as soon as I busted it out!
