Pregnant after IF

PAIF Graduates - New Mommies - September 2018

Good luck @JWatt5 & @Holls214 with daycare today! I know it's super sad and super scary but I can't tell you how much Zoey has thrived at her daycare!! It's so hard but they'll do great!!

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! We have had a rough week battling roseola (I hope NONE of your littles every get it, it's a beast) but enjoyed lots of snuggles and now she's almost back to herself.

Cheers to a new month!

Re: PAIF Graduates - New Mommies - September 2018

  • How is it a new month already?! Time needs to slow down!

Glad zoey is feeling better! I can’t imagine having a sick babe although I know it’s inevitable when she starts daycare. I think it’s tougher on the parents most of the time!

I can’t believe how much Abigail grows and learns each day. It’s like overnight she has become a tummy time champ, lifting her head and chest up for long periods of time and trying really hard to roll over, talking up a storm, etc. I’m just waiting for the baby giggles to start. Every day just gets better and better. We went to a baseball game yesterday and thankfully had access to the club level for AC as it was hot and humid. Abigail did so well and everyone commented on how calm she is and how well she did. We got noise canceling headphones for her to protect her ears and thankfully she doesn’t seem to mind them much.
  • Today is rough. I feel heartbroken like I am just dying inside... :( I can't even concentrate on work and the house is too quiet since I work from home.
Sorry Zoey was sick, glad she is feeling better! When did Zoey start at daycare? I have heard those headphones work great- glad she did so well. Sounds like fun!
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.

  • @Holls214 Be kind to yourself today! You don't have to be as productive as you were before leave. Consider this week as an ease back in period. The first day is the absolute hardest, but it does get easier.
  • It's been a crazy last few weeks here. Mackenzie's officially done with bottles at daycare, so I'm winding down pumping. I still nurse when we're together, but bottles are done. Luckily, that transition was ready, because she's been refusing bottles lately anyway. I think it was harder on me than her.

@byrneme I've heard roseola is just as bad as hand, foot, and mouth. I'm sorry Zoey caught it!

What is everyone doing in terms of flu shots (is your baby getting one) and when they're getting them?
  • First day back to work - Parker was Home with Dad. He had a rough night so we ended up co sleeping/snuggling half the night which I was happy about. Leaving without him felt so weird. But overall the day was ok - quite boring actually. I think I got most of my tears out yesterday. Tomorrow Parker starts at Daycare so I’m not sure how that will feel. I hate how after working and then the hour commute how little time is left in the evening. I’ll be living for the weekends that’s for sure. I’m so glad I got to spend his first year with him.

@Holls214 - I think being at home without him would be harder! Take care of yourself - everyone says it’ll get easier!!

@byrneme  - that sounds so crappy - poor Zoey!! Glad she’s starting to feel better!!

@persnickity - I usually wait until work has the shot and get it there. For Parker...I should see if he can get it at his 15m check up - but he’s already getting the chicken pox vaccine so not sure if they can do both at once?

  • @byrneme Roseola does not sounds fun. Glad Zoey is feeling better.

@mtpbadger oh the baby giggles. They get me through some of Brooks's roughest days. They are seriously the best.

@Holls214 It will get easier! At my daycare they all learned Brooks so quickly and now when we walk in they all say hey Brooks as we walk the hall! Some give compliments on how cute he looks that day. It really helps. You'll get comfortable with it! I promise.

@persnickity I hadn't thought of flu shots for infants. I guess I need to check with our pediatrician on that.

@JWatt5 Tomorrow will be ok! I always call it school instead of daycare. It makes me feel a little better.
  • @Holls214 she started at 14 weeks. I had 12 weeks at home and my DH had two weeks that he took at the end of my leave (honestly, I think that saved me - going back to work first then daycare drop off vs. doing both in one day). Like @MMD1986 says you'll get comfortable as you see them flourish! We also call it school :)

@persnickity I know Zoey got hers last year at her 6 month appt, I asked the ped when we were there last week when she would get it and she'll get it at her 15 month c/u. I'll either get mine at work or at my annual (hard to believe it's been a year since my 6 week follow up lol).

  • Hugs to those back at work! Just many hugs <3

@persnickity we’ll do flu shots next month - Graham will be 11 months, we have to go in for my daughters very late 5 year appt so our pediatrician recommended both getting the flu shot then. We got SLAMMED last year with my daughter starting school, I honestly don’t know how graham never caught a thing, so I’m prepping myself for all the bugs again. Ugh. Which reminds me I’ll need a shot too.

AFM Graham just turned 10 months. Big sis started school last week, so it’s just been me and the little man. I work from home and that was not possible besides after kids bedtimes this summer with my daughter not napping or resting anymore, so it’s nice to catch up! I’m so used to having conversations with my daughter though, being with only graham seems so quiet!

  • Today went okay... I cried as soon as I got into the car. I ended up picking him up at 1:30pm so he could hang out with me a little before his afternoon long nap then I worked some more when he was asleep. I might see if my boss will let me have him at home a day or 2 a week so we spend less at daycare and I see him more. I’ll just have to schedule meeting for the days he is gone if I have to leave the house. Fingers crossed! We will probably get flu shots at his 4 month maybe? Do they get them that young?

  • I'm I'm obviously so out of it that I posted ok the August board instead of sept.....so let's try this again....

Good luck to the ladies going back to work! I can't even imagine it right now! You're so strong good luck!  Sounds like u all have great plans in place!!

im totally jealous hearing about all of these naps!! (From the August board) My LO is not sleeping! This am she first went down at 6:30am I'm so thankful she got a nap in finally as I was falling asleep feeding her.

This last week has been rough as here I thought I was such a pro fully bf her and at her check up she didn't gain a lot of weight so the dr was very unhappy and made me feel like shit.  So I'm back to pumping bottles and even supplementing with formula again. Her gas is bad but hopefully this time around I'm giving the drops more frequently and she'll feel better!! I explained I never get a lot when pumping and everyone said don't worry the baby is getting more and now the dr was like no she's getting the same that u pump  s so definitely have the baby blues this week! Trying to ignore them and just get some more food in her...mind u she will eat it all and toss it up right after!  She just turned 3 months and I still feel like I'm feeding a new born again.

when have you folks stopped warming up he bottle for them?  One pro about bf the milk is always ready!!

@byrneme glad to hear zoey is feeling better! Right now things are tough I can't imagine a sickness on top of it.  I'm constantly taking her fever as she always feels warm and I'm nervous especially after she gets her shots!

@mtpbadger I totally cheer my LO on during tummy time and get so excited when I see she's not mad and actually does it!  Each day I feel like she's starting to give her Lil sounds and wants to say hi back to me, I just love it!! Each smile I just want to eat her cheeks up I ant wait for a real first giggle!!

I would love to work from home! Must be hard for the working home moms to do that without your babes!!

  • @Hopeful_mom I’m sorry your doc made you feel like that! And for the record, both kids I’ve pumped jack. Tried multiple pumps and times of day. My daughter also ate jack, I truly wasn’t producing and had to switch to formula, but my son is a tank so apparently gets enough, I just give formula if I’ll be gone since I apparently can’t pump enough. That’s mean if your dr to make you feel bad!

As for bottle warming... depends on the baby. My daughter never ever took a bottle unless it was properly warmed (and at age 5 she’s still my sensitive child, knows when things are “off” immediately, no sneaking a veggie in her food ;) but my son will drink an ice cold or a warm bottle. With Graham I’ll leave bottles of room temp water out if I’ll be gone and his formula is then room temp. Give that a shot?

@2MomsHoping congrats!! Welcome over here!! She’s beautiful. Give yourself some grace, feeding is hard and I still have anxiety from pumping - I have a 5 year old and I produced jack with her and tried to pump to up supply. I finally caved and went all to formula, it was like a weight was lifted. My son nurses just fine so it’s such a crapshoot. Fed truly is best, you’re doing a great job! Enjoy those sweet snuggles <3
  • @2MomsHoping she's beautiful! Congrats! Pumping is incredibly difficult. Hopefully the ties can be addressed and nursing can continue, but if not, fed is best and no matter what, you're doing an awesome job.
  • Last year, Mackenzie didn't get the flu shot. Her pediatrician didn't think she should get it until a little later and by then, it was too late for flu season. This year, I forgot to ask at her one year and her next one isn't until December. I've heard it's going to be an early flu season again and want her to get it sooner than December.
  • @2MomsHoping What a beauty! That hair! My little guy had that kind of hair...could you see it on your sonograms? Don't beat yourself up about formula/breast....just do what's right for her and you. There are advantages and drawbacks to both. You will find your way. Good luck!

@Hopeful_mom I would be changing my ped immediately - that's just not cool. I'm sorry you were made to feel that way :( Hang in there mama, and do whatever YOU need to do. As for warming, Zoey never cared the temp of her botte so we never used the warmer.

  • Babies can get their first flu shot at 6 months. The best time to get your flu shot is end of this month or early next month.  As a NICU/pediatric nurse I'm dreading RSV/flu season with my preemie twins ugh! Can't wait for the beautiful fall weather here in the midwest. My twins are almost 5 months and time is flying! Still pumping and supplementing after each breastfeed. It's a lot of work but I'm so incredible grateful for them. Hope everyone is enjoying their blessings <3

  • Happy Birthday June! So cute... Bryson went off the daycare with Daddy this morning, so I decided to sleep in and start work a little late. Weird thing is I am still tired.
@2MomsHoping so happy to see you here! Love the picture and all of that hair. Don't beat yourself up too much about breastfeeding/pumping. I have PCOS and was never warned that my milk supply might not come in at all. My breasts never grew during pregnancy either. I tried for 3 weeks to pump and would literally get 1-2 oz for 6-7 times pumping, so I just gave up. He is thriving on formula. Fed is best, so whatever works for you and baby. :)

Random question- has anyone ever tried Shakeology? I still have some serious weight to loss after baby and I am looking into supplements and other exercise programs... I still have 30+ pounds hanging around 3+ months later ugh.

  • Thanks @doubleblessings1124 that's exactly the info I was looking for! I'll call the pediatrician and see if we can get in at the end of the month.

@omarismyhomeboy happy birthday to June! And I completely agree with you about daycare/school. I feel better about sending her there than if I'd stayed home. She's learning more than I could have every taught her.
  • @Holls214
I'm looking for something to help me kick off this extra weight also. Let me know if you find something that works for you! Eating well and strolling the baby just isn't enough...and I can't go back to my college days and starve myself all day :expressionless:

All 6 month olds getting the shot for the first time will actually need two injections of the flu vaccine spaced a month apart. This is true of anyone getting the shot for the first time under 9 years of age (or anyone under 9 who didn't already get two flu shots back to back in a prior season). The first dose kicks your immune system into gear; the second dose actually provides the full protection. If you don't get the second dose, you'll have reduced immunity.

    So many adorable babies!  @2MomsHoping
She's so sweet! and I love the hair band

  • AFM -- Anne is finally starting to roll from her tummy to her back rather than only back to tummy. Yay! She's only done it once so far, but she's starting to try -- just needs a bit more oomph in her push I think.

This september reminds me of last year when I was newly pregnant and had no power due to hurricane (giving PIO by flashlight is a special experience). So much nostalgia! Although I hope we don't get another hurricane like that this year...we had a tropical storm over the weekend and it was intense.

Anne has her 6 month appt at the end of the month and I'm super nervous that the doctor's going to say she's still gaining too fast. I've done everything I can do to space out feedings and not let her overfeed...but if she's hungry, she's hungry. I'm getting white-coat hypertension on her behalf!

  • Abigail rolled from tummy to back today during tummy time. She had been trying all week but kept getting stuck on her side. We kept putting her back on her tummy and she would immediately roll over and looked so proud of herself! I’m glad DH was Home from work to see it for the first time too. i feel like she’s developed leaps and bounds this past week! Time needs to slow down!!
  • Moms of older babies, did any of you experience vomiting with teething? I'm pretty sure Brooks is teething. I don't see or feel any teeth, but he is crazy fussy, biting/chewing everything, drooling, grabbing at his ears.  I'm just not sure if the vomiting is related, I've read mixed thoughts on Google.  If it gets too bad I'll call his doctor, just wondering if y'all had the same experience.

    Welcome @2MomsHoping.

@omarismyhomeboy Happy Birthday to June. What a cutie.

@mbradfo2 Where do you live? Just wondering with the hurricane/ts talk.

@mtpbadger It is so cute when they are proud of their accomplishments.
  • @MMD1986 ugh yes my daughter threw up every time a tooth broke through. I asked her dr and she said it wasnt unheard of but not super common. I guessed the extra saliva and then she’d cry and get sick -? But literally she’s got 20 teeth, she got sick 20+ times. Lovely ;)

  • Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!  We did get the toungue tie snipped today (I didn’t even cry).  The doc wasn’t too optimistic about her being able to breastfeed still so we will see how things go but she is officially above birth weight now so I’m feeling ok that though things aren’t going according to plan all is well.

@omarismyhomeboy happy birthday to June. She is beautiful!

@holls214 I have a good friends that swears by shakeology. She’s lost somewhere around 25ish pounds with it.  Personally I’m a big fan of the whole30 diet. Pregnancy totally threw off my healthy eating but I’m not sure I could keep up the pace for all the food prep at the present moment

  • @Polythene Pam Thanks for the response ladies I know my dr means well but as a FTM and trying so hard with BF I just felt terrible.  I still do especially if she's just crying cause she's hungry.  I squeeze my boobs To make sure there's milk so I know she has to be getting something but I guess not enough.  Her sleeping still isn't great why I will never wake her to eat BUT I am trying to get a couple of extra ounces in after I BF her to make sure she still fed.  It's tough cayse once she starts a tough times she doesn't want to stop and then just throws up its awful!  They say babies stop when they're full but mine doesn't seem to do that!  @byrneme it's so interesting how each baby is different and can tolerate different things.  She was screaming so I have her the cold bottle and luckily she kept most of it down just with all her gas and such I don't want to cause any extra issues!

@2MomsHoping omg such a cute photo making me jealous I didn't get the newborn photos! As u can see from my post I'm still beating myself up on BF over here and the baby is 3 months! Irs tryevfed is best which I know it's just frustrating when once again out bodirs aren't doing what they're suppose to.  I feel like ivf was tough enough don't I deserve for my boobs to supply food for my baby!!!  I'm still trying so I'll keep u posted if I figure anything out that works.  I try all the foods and tea that's out there to produce more milk BUT once my babies gas started to act up I cut down lots of the options right now!

@hottietoddy welcome! Hi to ur cutie! Sounds like u've got it all down already and dealing with it much better then I am, good for you.  Also sounds like you're making a good amount already so hopefully it just continues to get even better for you!

@omarismyhomeboy happy birthday sweet baby June! Such a cutie pie!

Love hearing about milestones during tummytime! I'm just excited when my LO doesn't cry on her tummy and tries to move! She did fling get herself over the other day but I don't be think that counts my fiesty Lil girl!

  • @hottietoddy I also have flat nipples so baby never was able to latch or BF even with a nipple shield really... I hope the shield helps you and your milk comes in!
@2MomsHoping that’s great to hear about the shakes. I would love to do whole 30 but that means my hubs would have to eat that way also and he is naturally thin and can eat anything so I don’t know if he would appreciate that haha. :) glad she is above the birth weight. That’s great!
@Hopeful_mom sorry you are having a rough time and the doctor didn’t make you feel better. You are doing a great job! Baby boy just started to pack on the food in the last week so maybe there’s a turnaround coming for you? I hope so. He’s still not sleeping thru the night. One day I guess.
  • Welcome @2MomsHoping and @hottietoddy ! And @omarismyhomeboy Happy birthday June! Love her pretty blonde hair.

@Hopeful_mom  Well, my baby doesn’t sleep much either. I laughed when I read in a baby book that baby at 5 months sleep around 14 hours a day. I don’t think he comes even close. I thought his sleep patterns were getting better at 3 months as he would sleep 4 hours or so in one of the night time feeding cycles but then I went back to work and he was again back on 2-3 hour feeding cycle. Ugh. He is apparently reverse cycling. Flattered he wants to drink from my breast but not easy getting up in the middle of the night so frequently to nurse. Where does your baby nap/sleep? My baby used to cat nap in the bassinet during the day but recently we discovered that he naps much better in his reclining high chair. In that he sleeps 1-2 hours depending on the time of day. As for bottle warming, we did because his tummy grumbled less, but lately we also discovered that he will continue to drink when the milk was reheated. I guess he doesn’t like room temperature or cold milk? That might be one of the reasons for preferring breast...

We are sleep strugglers here too during the day! The most she'll nap now unless she's completely exhausted is about 1 hr and she'll do that a couple times a day but not as often as the books say. She  And it's a fight to get her down to bed at night; she'll be cranky because she's tired but she refuses to sleep! We have to rock her to sleep and then move her into crib once she's out.

We are still bottle warming at 5 months, I don't anticipate stopping any time soon -- prob. once she's weaned.

    @cashewchicken
We finally got our first tummy-to-back roll on Monday! Since then she's been trying to repeat it, but still struggles a bit to get the force to flip over. Starting to feel a little more comfortable with her choosing to sleep on her tummy.

  • Joining you in the no nap club. Abigail cat naps throughout the day (10-20 min here and there, mostly in the stroller or car if we are out and about). Only good naps (about an hr) if I’m wearing her or she’s in the swing. I try putting her in her crib or pack n play and while she doesn’t cry or scream, she just lays there with her eyes open looking around but quiet. I hope she falls asleep but no such luck. Thankfully she’s a pretty good nighttime sleeper
  • My mom said she would always go for a drive with us if we weren't sleeping/fussy and that would always put us right to sleep! But that was back in ye olden dayes when it was OK if the baby slept in their carseat...

  • Zoey slept in her infant seat ALL the time. She would fall asleep before we could leave the daycare parking lot and we'd just bring her in and set her on the coffee table. Road trips she'd sleep the entire 5 hours. Obviously she was being checked on but we couldn't STOP her from falling asleep in it and certainly weren't going to wake her!
