Pregnant & nursing

At the onset of the board, I saw several mamas mentioning they were still nursing their last babe. Curious if any other mamas are still nursing at this point in their pregnancy.

if so:
-how far along are you and how old is your little?
-when (or do) you plan on weaning?
-anyone considering tandem?

if you already weaned during this pregnancy:
-how’d that go?
-did you wean because you dried up, got aversions, it just decided it was time?

Still nursing here and haven’t made a decision about above except I do plan to wean sometime during this pregnancy.... I think. Kind of hoping my body decides for me.

Re: Pregnant & nursing

  • -how far along are you and how old is your little?

I am almost 19 weeks and my daughter is 15 months

-when (or do) you plan on weaning?

I planned on weaning at 12 weeks (spoiler alert, still breastfeeding)

    -anyone considering tandem?

I don’t want too but I’m already halfway through my pregnancy so if we keep going at this rate it may happen

I was also hoping that I’d wean naturally but my body loves producing milk aparently. I’m hoping my daughter won’t like the taste when it turns to colostrum

  • I’m 16w with a 19m old.

My husband keeps asking, when are you weaning again? I’m like ummm, let’s talk about it later.

@lifeislove87 similar sentiment on tandem, not the plan but I’m also not in the mindset to go through a forced weaning. Things are easy at the moment (boob wise anyway) and only twice a day for us. Do I want to upset the apple cart? Not really.

I was hoping some mamas would jump in with how they seamlessly cut off their toddlers nurslings this pregnancy. Beautiful tip and tricks for a simple end, ha!
I’m guessing it’s harder as they get older and are more opinionated with better memories.
  • -how far along are you and how old is your little?
I'm 18 weeks now, but was about 15 when I last nursed my LO. My LO is 2.
-when (or do) you plan on weaning?
    Already weaned.
    -anyone considering tandem?
I had considered it, but it's probably not gonna happen now. I was hoping they'd be closer in age, but it took a while for me to get comfortable enough to get knocked up again.

if you already weaned during this pregnancy:
    -how’d that go?
It was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. I'm actually a bit sad. I had hoped I'd be able to remember the last time I nursed her, but I can't. I don't remember whether it was the morning or the afternoon, I don't remember how long she nursed. One day I was nursing her, and the next I didn't, and she was fine. She only fought it for a few days (begging for "booby"), but now seems indifferent. I'd been wanting to wean since about 15 months, so it's bittersweet. I'm glad she's getting independent, but sad that she doesn't need me in that way anymore.
-did you wean because you dried up, got aversions, it just decided it was time?
All of the above. At about 12 weeks my milk started to dry up. I was literally only getting drops. Nursing started to hurt, which created an aversion. It's been time, so I figured it was the perfect reason.
  • I actually found it was easier, not harder. Mine is 2, though. She has other comfort methods by now, and was mostly using the nursing for comfort.
  • Reassuring to hear that it was easier than expected. Thanks for sharing. I’m not pumping anymore so honestly no idea how much I’m actually producing. Curious when I’ll reslly start to dry up though... if I haven’t already!
  • @ssag I wonder the same thing, if I squish my boobs milk squirts out but I don’t feel like I make tons of milk any more.
  • You're very welcome. I was glad it was easier. I've been dreading weaning for a long time. My toddler has been night weaned since 15 months, and that was tough. I expected it to be like that.

I wasn't pumping, either, but noticed because I have a bad habit of squeezing my boobs to squirt milk (lol) and one day I did that and literally only got drops. It was odd for me, because normally I could get let down to happen really fast. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't. Neither could my toddler, and she let me know. She would start getting frustrated and pinch and pull my boobs. It got painful. They, also, started hurting when sucked. Dry nursing really hurt for me. :(
