4 failed FETs with Excellent grade PGS Tested Embryos

We have had 4 failed FETs with PGS tested embryos, of those 4, 3 were excellent grade and one was fair grade. I have done a HSG test that showed my tubes are open and good to go, a miscarriage panel, all types of blood tests, a sonohysterogram that was clear, an ERA test and I’m 34. In the last year of my 4 FETs, I have had one chemical pregnancy and the rest failed completely. The last FET was with a new embryo from my second retrieval and I used 20mg medrol 5 days before the transfer and the day of transfer. The only thing the 5 doctors I have had a consult with, have said it that it could be the embryo and I am redoing the ERA test because the first doctor that performed it was not experienced and did not do an endo scratch before the ERA and I wanted to do an endo scratch before FETs because it's what I did before the only FET that resulted in a pregnancy. Does anyone have any other methods/medications/tests to help withmy next FET?

Re: 4 failed FETs with Excellent grade PGS Tested Embryos

  • I've had two failed FETs with PGS tested embryos. I went to a new RE after the second transfer (for unrelated reasons) and she discovered I had chronic endometritis, which resulted in micropolyps and plasma. I'm not sure if they've specifically looked for that for you, but I know a few of us have been diagnosed with that after further testing. I know the endo scratch also helps many women.

  • Thank you!!! I’ll be sure ask my doctor about that.
  • I had 7 embryo transfers, 6 failed and I’m currently 23 weeks pregnant. We did medicated FETs for the first 5 with two ERAs (I had a chemical pregnancy the second transfer before doing any ERA tests). I never got a receptive result, but the test came back that we were close enough to the window, though I really wish we had done another just to get receptive. We were always pre-receptive. After the 5th failed transfer my doctor suggested a d&c to clear out the lining and get a better look at my uterus. I also met with a hematologist that specialized in reproductive health who put me on lovenox, he said it sometimes helps women with implantation failure. During the d&c my doctor found polyps and a uterine septum. We followed up with a natural cycle FET (#6), which failed. Then did two ERAs, first one came back post-receptive, second was receptive. Transfer #7 worked! All of my embryos were PGS tested so we knew it had to be something else.

Dont give up! If you have any questions let me know!
  • @lauren1310 Just want to add that sometimes even though you test the embryos and they come back normal, this doesn't guarantee they're normal. You're taking a small piece of a fairly large embryo and sometimes that piece isn't truly representative of the rest of the embryo. However for that to happen four (separate?) times is extremely unlikely! I agree that there may be issues with your lining.

You might also want to see if they offer embryo glue (https://www.vitrolife.com/en/products/ivf-media--oil/embryoglue/). It doesn't seem to have an enormous benefit but still can't hurt.

    Good luck!

  • @lauren1310 I am blessed to have my almost two year old son from IVF.  I did 2 stim cycles.  first poor results with only one good pgs embryo,  transfer resulted in a chemical.  second cycle resulted in 15 PGS good embryos.  First transfer from that cycle success.   I've been trying for 10 months to have a second. I have done 3 FETs all failed, all pgs embryos all from the same cycle that produced my son.  I did a ton of blood work, no anomalies.  I did the saline sono before doing the first of the 3 FETs and nothing.   Most recently I had an endo biopsy.  It came back positive for polyp fragments.  I am going to have a hysteroscopy on 9/21 so they can go in and see what's happening in my uterus (I had a c section with my son).   Even tho my RE doesn't think the biopsy results are a big deal, my nurse said it is probably a good idea to go in there and get a better look at my uterus to see if there are polyps, or scar tissue or anything else that the biopsy didn't pick up.   Also, I was told that ultrasounds and the saline sono can miss anomalies in your uterus.   Maybe it doesn't hurt to see if you're RE will biopsy or take a look at what's going on?
I'm so sorry you are in this place.  I know it's so frustrating.  I know PGS isn't a guarantee but this process is so hard, and exhausting and emotional that I feel like when you PGS you feel like you should get a break somewhere along the way.  I am hoping your break is coming soon!!!  Good luck!
