Re: Weekly Check-In EDD 12/8-12/16

  • How far along are you? How big is baby? 25 weeks tomorrow, size of a cantaloupe/cauliflower

How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms? Feeling great, aside from my inability to slouch! I've been feeling sooo much less sciatic pain, which I credit entirely to my regular chiropractic adjustments.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Dear Diary, I'm soooo happy I passed the glucose challenge, because I really didn't want to be considered high risk and pushed to induce at the end of pregnancy because of a possible big baby. Now I just need to accept that my body loves packing on the pounds while I'm pregnant, and try to make that weight gain come from as many healthy calories as possible.

GTKY: It’s almost September! What’s your favorite thing about fall? I have a tradition of dressing up in the same outfit on September 1, taking a picture of myself, and getting a PSL. This will be my 4th year doing it! I love the cooler weather and crispy leaves of Indiana falls, but Alabama doesn't really get much fall, sadly.

  • @morgantu I’m assuming the OB would have told you if it was a fasting test. Fasting for the 1-hour is a bit outdated, from what I’ve read. I had a piece of whole-wheat toast with butter, 2 eggs, and 2 slices of bacon for breakfast (along with half a cup of coffee with half and half), and then took the test almost 2 hours later. I texted my mom (a midwife) to ask what I should eat and she said meat and eggs, but by the time I got the text I was halfway through my toast  I was fine on the number, anyway.

AS REQUESTED! Here is my fall photo. I guess I totally lied — I’ve only done it two years in a row! But in the words of my grad school president, if you do something twice it’s tradition.

  • @PensiveCrayon Sorry you can’t slouch! - I love your fall photo
@Morgantu My glucose blood draw is scheduled before 9am, so I will be (easily) fasting as instructed. I didn’t ask about eating food with my glucola because I don’t have an appetite in the morning.
    @CecilB93 What’s the connection between Sonic’s ice & anemia?
@runrinserepeat Bah, sorry that the girl’s trip may not be happening, it does sound like fun though!
@mamajudec2018 Ah, 32 weeks! I was telling DH that the appointment frequency increases but I couldn’t remember when.

How far along are you? How big is baby?
25 weeks tomorrow - little dude is somewhere around 12" tall.

How are you feeling this week? Any new symptoms?
Mostly good! My random afternoon reflux is getting worse, so I finally got some of the chewy Tums (took two today but should have gone with three). My back is getting regularly achy, but it's not terrible yet, DH doesn't mind that my sitting stamina has decreased.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?
Dear Diary, I have been such a bum lately. Low motivation to do things, but content at home reading Reddit. I've just been procrastinating for no reason. But hey! We're going to a wedding this weekend and I'm excited to see a few familiar faces and get a little social recharge.

GTKY: It’s almost September! What’s your favorite thing about fall?
Mmm, I miss wearing jackets, but won't be able to wear mine without an extender (mostly - I did just thrift a maternity track jacket). I also allow myself one full strength PSL each year, so I'm looking forward to that too @PensiveCrayon

  • @echo-charlietango eating ice in general can be a sign of an iron deficiency/anemia, regardless of being pregnant or not. I've never been anemic, so I'm not really worried, but I also hadn't been buying Sonic ice for months, so it's kind of a sudden craving in a way this time around. There's a pizza place here that I get salads from that has good ice for chewing, too!

  • It’s funny @CecilB93, because I was chewing ice on my way home from Panera today wondering the same thing! But I’ve always been an ice chewer. I think for me it’s just a habit — more of an oral fixation thing than a sign of anemia (though I have been mildly anemic in the past).

That's interesting, I didn’t know there was an unknown connection between chewing ice and being anemic! I’ve never been an ice chewer (cold-sensitive teeth) nor tested for anemia :pensive:

  • @echo-charlietango I'm not sure if 32 weeks is standard. Since I have GD and I'm on meds my OB does twice a week starting at 32 weeks. I want to say it's usually every other week starting at 32 but I might be way off.
  • How far along are you? How big is baby?

    24w5d.

How are you feeling this week? Any new

    symptoms?

So many contractions. Starting to dilate. I’m so stressed :(

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?

I’m just an emotional mess. I have too much going on and I can not find a balance.

GTKY: It’s almost September! What’s your favorite thing about fall?

Since becoming a mom, decorating! DS1 (ds2& I as well) were in a tornado when he was 2. Since then, one of his comforts and coping mechanisms is decorating for ALL THE THINGS. I love his sweet spirit, and can’t wait to decorate.

  • @PensiveCrayon same here as far as it kind of being a habit.

@echo-charlietango the only times I've been tested for anemia are when I donate blood, and when I was pregnant with DS. If iron is too low you can't donate. And with DS technically my iron came back super low kind of earlier on, but my MW thinks it was a typo or the results were bad because just a couple weeks later it had jumped super high into normal range. So I don't think I've ever actually been anemic.

@flamingomama hang in there!! Have the doctors done anything for the contractions and dilation? Did I miss you posting about this somewhere else? I feel like this is the first I've seen of it but I'm not checking every thread, so I may have just missed it.
    DS1 born 2/28/16

  • Yup, was going to say the same as @CecilB93! I’ve been turned back from donating blood at least once, which really sucks when you see all the ads screaming “DONATE!” (“YOU GUYS WON’T LET ME!”) My mom also has access to labs though, and occasionally draws my blood to check if I want to know. I’m always very borderline.

Which reminds me, I finally remembered to buy my delicious Floradix iron drink! Shotsshotsshots...

At my office, it's every 2 weeks starting at 28 weeks until 36, then once a week.

  • @PensiveCrayon I've been turned away once. It was low by .1, but I was in HS at the time so they wouldn't let me sign off on it even though I was 18. Oh well, I've never had that issue other than that one time. I give when I can! I even gave blood a couple years while I was still BFing my son (not at the same time lol). I was concerned about staying hydrated, but I had no issues!

@mamajudec2018 wow, twice a week?? I go in once a week starting at 32 weeks for growth scans, but not twice. Idk if I could do twice a week lol.

@runrinserepeat Thank you I definitely don't have a standard situation!

@CecilB93 I honestly think it'll give me a little relief. I know it sounds like a pain but I'm so nervous all the time that baby isn't alright that I think I'll maybe have a little piece. It's called "fetal monitoring" so I don't think it's a scan every time but also don't really know haha! I'm pretty much already on the every two weeks and train. Next Thursday I see high risk and my doc in the same day and if high risk doesn't do sizing when he redoes the echo then my doc is going to have me do an ultrasound there too. With this being an IVF baby I'm kind of like bring it on! Haha!

@flamingomomma I'm sorry I also feel like this is the first time I'm hearing this. Is the doctor doing anything?
  • @flamingomomma So Sorry you’re having a hard time right now. What is the doctor saying about your contractions/dilation?

How far along are you? How big is baby?

    24w3d...big as a cantaloupe? I think?

How are you feeling this week? Any new

    symptoms?

I’m feeling good mostly. I have slowed down significantly. I spent the day Sunday cleaning my whole house and I thought I was going to die after. My back was in so much pain. I used to be able to marathon clean like that with no problem.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary?

I mentioned elsewhere that a photographer came and took pictures of our house. When they come back we will be officially listed. I feel like we’ve been working towards this forever and now it’s here! Eek!

GTKY: It’s almost September! What’s your favorite thing about fall?

+1 to usually getting at least one PSL in, usually I get one early and then I’m over it. Last year I had one like every time I left the house though. Lol it was my little treat for being a SAHM.

I also love the fall weather for the two weeks we get it. It goes from super hot to super cold in about 2 seconds flat around here. And I love fall clothes and fall leaves! And fall decorations! I love fall.

  • @flamingomomma oh no, i feel like with everything you have going on personally, you don't also need even more pregnancy stress. Sending lots of love your way <3
  • My appointments are actually all wonky. I'm 25 weeks this week, and haven't had an appointment since 20 weeks. I figure my next one will be at 28, so only 3 weeks, and then hopefully every 2 after that.

I always wind up feeling like it's a waste of time, and though I know I shouldn't, I get super anxious about the appointments because of the weight check. But it does mean we're getting closer to December and closer to babies, so that's a good thing!

  • @runrinserepeat i left my appointment on monday feeling like "oh, i had to take sick hours for this?". I know it's probably important to check my bp and weight and stuff, but i have to miss 2 hours of work for 15 mins of the dr asking if I have any questions?

The worst was my last appointment, because I had questions and concerns, and the PA just laughed. Yes, I get being uncomfortable in pregnancy is pretty normal, but 1. your job is to be compassionate, not to laugh at me, and 2. my OB always at least offers suggestions. So I'm not going to waste my time with the PA at all anymore if I can help it. I'd really rather just skip the appointment altogether.

  • @runrinserepeat ugh, that's really annoying. Ever heard of bedside manner? It's not necessary to just discount your questions. I hope you get to skip seeing them again.

How far along are you? How big is baby? 25 weeks today! He’s the size of a cauliflower.

How are you feeling this week? Any new

symptoms? I feel ok. More constipated than usual; might be time to start using some Miralax.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Dear Diary? Dear Diary, I failed my 1 hour glucose test and I’m so upset about it. The 3 hour made me so sick with my last 2 kiddos, so I’m just dreading how miserable I’m going to feel the rest of the day. Also, the Makena (progesterone) shot I have to take weekly switched to this gnarly auto injector DH sticks into the back of my arm. Tonight was the first time we used that and it went in So fast and seamlessly! But then, 5 seconds later, the thick as heck serum that got shot into my arm faster than ever kicked in and oh my god the pain. OUCH.

GTKY: It’s almost September! What’s your favorite thing about fall? Cooler weather so the little and I can play outside without melting!!! Oh, and football! And chili! and another season closer to a baby!! Summer was so long. YAY FALL!

@runrinserepeat I think that’s normal, I’ve been feeling that way too! I can’t believe your PA laughed at your questions, how rude!!!

@rosebud332 fingers crossed your house sells quickly!!!

  • I’m 25+3 right now - due Dec 13. So I guess baby is a cauliflower this week. Just had an appt this week and was measuring 27/28 weeks -but my last two kiddos have been BIG so thts not a big surprise. Midwife isn’t concerned. I’ll have my glucose test & rhogam shot at the next appt when I’ll be just shy of 29 weeks

Not exactly a new symptom, but I am feeling huge already and only 25 weeks!

what I like best about fall is that is a bit slower time at work for me. I am the executive director for a summer camp, so June /July /August are pretty insane. Things start to slow down in September :)
