Braxton Hicks

Hi all! I am 21 weeks along and have been feeling inconsistent Braxton Hicks since about 16 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks and the doctor checked my cervix, telling me that the length is good.

Has anyone had this happen and not go into preterm labor?

Re: Braxton Hicks

  • Hi there, I am due with my 3rd son in about 4 weeks, and I have had Braxton Hicks with all 3 of my boys basically from about 6 months on, and it is pretty shitty, mine last most of the afternoon, and my last two boys were born late, 5 days and 6 days, so it really doesn't mean you are going to go pre term. I think it is just one of my symptoms. I don't get huge, I don't have any complications, everything is pretty much smooth sailing except that my entire stomach gets as hard as an overinflated basketball and stays that way for a really long time. I have learned to live with it for this long, so I don't much mind. I drink a lot of ice water though, and if it is really tiring me out I take a hot shower or bath.

  • I have light BH from 20 weeks and pretty strong BH from 24-26 weeks on - every hour my uterus tightens a lot and it’s usuaully uncomfy but occasionally slightly painful like if I have to pee or I am walking... nothing to worry about if there aren’t other symptoms!
  • I’ve had this all 3 pregnancies. Drink extra water and put your feet up on days you feel extra BHs! Dehydration and overactivity can make them more frequent.
  • I was going to echo the same sentiment as @jharper09211 - this is my third pregnancy and I've had a lot of BH since 16 weeks. They seem to get more frequent and uncomfortable for me around the 23-24 week point and definitely a sign that I need to kick my feet up and drink more water.
  • 29 weeks and i haven't felt anything - or maybe I just don't know??

  • agree with @the-lo.. 27 weeks and have felt pretty good but would also love to know what I should be looking out for (or if I will just know if it happens). Started working out more last week and hoping to continue through the rest of pregnancy!
  • I'm a FTM and started having them around 16 weeks but they didn't become an every day occurrence until about 25 weeks. They are usually just uncomfortable and for me the worst part is the palpitations and shortness of breath that occur with them. Activity and hydration don't seem to affect mine...however, my do get worse if I need to pee so I try to do that as often as possible. I've been told that they are just practice contractions and so long at they are not painful/regular they won't have any effect on the cervix.
