Mandatory weaning of 8 mo. old due to pregnancy

I think I have to wean my 8 month old already because I am 2 months pregnant, and my milk supply is dwindling. Thankfully she loves baby/solid foods, but she has never taken a bottle or sippy cup, and I am struggling to get her enough liquids! It does not seem like juicy foods are enough, she needs the comfort and fill-up of a bottle or something. For now, she still has enough wet diapers so I know she's ok, but I would love suggestions on how to move forward since my breastmilk is going away, like it or not :(

  • If this were me, I would keep breastfeeding as long as I had even a little supply until the end of the second trimester or one year. Even if it's just a tiny bit, it's still beneficial.

Beyond that, have you considered adding formula? I know someone who had this same issue, except her problem was morning sickness and she couldn't keep enough food down to keep producing milk. So her baby had to go on formula until he hit a year and was eating enough solids. Some babies just aren't into solid food very early. My daughter wasn't interested in much more than tastes until around 12-13 months.

  • Have you tried different types of bottles and giving the bottles at different temperatures? I would pump and get the baby used to taking just your milk from a bottle first and then overtime begin increasing the amount of formula you add to the bottle. You may need to leave the house and have someone else feed her in order for her to take the bottle. My first would only take a bottle if she was in her car seat
