First trimester anxiety

Hi girls, made my into, so here’s my first post.

After 6 years between pregnancies (and experiencing MC), being pregnant this time around feels like the first time. There’s so much I’ve forgotten about what this all entails, and I’ve had a crippling anxiety since finding out last Sunday.

Ive had 3 beta draws, and my numbers are doubling appropriately and it’s highly likely I ovulated later than normal in July. I’ve had zero painful cramps, just the mild AF like cramps on and off, which are fewer and farther between now, and no bleeding. Realistically, I know all of these things are good, positive signs. Symptoms easing some days is also making me nervous even though I know it’s normal—can we bring on nausea for peace of mind? Ha

Im scheduled for my first ultrasound Friday, and I know it’s early, so I’m preparing myself for knowing there likely won’t be a heartbeat yet. I had an ultrasound at the ER last week when I went in for cramping that turned out to be gas LOL. It showed my endometrium was thick and supportive of pregnancy, and no ectopic.

This is feels like the first time all over again, and despite trying to guard my heart, I’m already so in love with this babe. I’m not sure how I’ll make it through the first trimester, but I’m hoping to escape with at least a shred of sanity remaining.

Advice?

Re: First trimester anxiety

  • Welcome! I think it's pretty normal to have this anxiety - a lot of us here have expressed the same anxiety and fears that you have written.  We do have a weekly thread for pregnancy after loss (PGAL) and some of the ladies there may be able to help. I think it's easy to let the anxiety and fear take over your already roller coaster emotions. Right now, just jump in on the other threads and enjoy being pregnant, because right now you are! Don't try to dwell on the what ifs, especially since everything seems good so far. FX!

  • Thank you so much! You’re absolutely right- I think it’s most frustrating because I know these things but it’s so easy to let that little seed of doubt in and overrule the logic! I’ll have to check out the thread, I didn’t see it when I looked over the board. Thanks for letting me know!! :)

  • Same same same. Third time around and I’m a nervous wreck all the time! I forgot how worriesome this all is!
  • Hi- I'm also a nervous wreck this time around. I'm 7 weeks now, and I got to do an ultrasound and saw the heartbeat on Friday, which was awesome. But instead of setting my mind at ease, it made me go into hyper worry. I woke up in middle of the night last night and had some spotting, and got really scared. Might go in for a quick check up today. I've had morning sickness, and other typical symptoms, but in the past few days I've been wondering if they are really as strong as they were last week... I got the book the girlfriends guide to pregnancy, and it helped me more than I expected. I appreciate the advice to just enjoy being pregnant though. Will try to do that xx
  • I am definitely in the same boat! I'm 38 and this is my first pregnancy. My husband and I did IVF (mainly because we didn't want to reverse his vasectomy and thought this would be quicker), but we only got 1 genetically normal embryo (out of 9), so I was panicked during the 2WW and even though I found out I'm pregnant, I'm panicked that something will happen! I go in monday for a viability ultrasound with my fertility doc. I've been getting a little nauseous and I know that's a good sign, but I'm still just an anxious mess!
  • I got a call from the nurse this morning saying my doctor wanted another beta before Friday’s ultrasound. She said she wanted to make sure levels were above 1200 before even trying an u/s, so I’m just waiting for the results online. Refreshing the page every five minutes. These draws have made me so nervous. Numbers have been doubling as they should but man! Talk about anxiety. I’m hoping they’re good again and the ultrasound Friday really gives peace of mind!

Prayers for all of you ladies- I didn’t think this would be so hard!!

  • I’ve been experiencing a lot of anxiety as well, it’s crazy. That constant butterfly feeling is getting so old. This being my first child I’ve ever been pregnant with, I’m nervous and stressed about the unknowns. I am having an ultrasound on Tuesday, I’m excited but very nervous.

I hear ya! I go in for my first ultrasound on Monday (6 weeks so hoping to see a heartbeat). Let us know how yours goes!

  • I am in the same boat. I am sick with worry. First pregnancy and it’s all new to be. 5weeks 1day.  Ultrasound not until Sept 13th, which feels like a really long time to wait to know!  :#:#:#
  • I am feeling the same way.  We just found out last night after nearly a year and a half of trying.  Waiting for results of my first blood test now.  I don't remember feeling this anxious with my first AT ALL.  Hugs to all

  • I’m feeling all the same things. Every time I go to the bathroom I’m pleasantly surprised when I don’t see any bleeding. This is my second pregnancy and I forgot about the constant worrying. I haven’t called my OB yet because she said she wouldn’t see me until 7-8 weeks anyways so I haven’t wanted to jinx it. Sounds silly but I feel lucky to be pregnant (we have tried for about 9 months) and don’t want anything to bad to happen.
  • I’m so jealous of all of you who get to have ultrasounds already!! I’ll be almost 9 weeks when I finally get to see a doc! Having very minimal symptoms isn’t helping either— I’m trying not to let anxiety take over and just be grateful for feeling pretty good most days.
  • @jmesue1030 I'm in the same boat as you. My first appointment isn't until 10 weeks because I'm away at a work conference the week prior. Counting down the days until we see baby and get some concrete evidence that this is really happening.

@kayceebaby1 oh my Lord I don’t think I could wait until 10 weeks!! Wishing you a calm mind and a quick few weeks!
  • I am currently waiting for results from my second beta bcg test.  My first (2 days ago) was on the low end at 22, and it's been an excruciating 2 days waiting for this.

  • @jmesue1030 same here! I'll be 9 weeks when i see the doctor and i don't have any symptoms.  But i didn't really have crazy symptoms with the other 3 either so i keep reminding myself of that!
  • @roo1381 yes definitely keep reminding yourself that you are one of the lucky ones!! I’ve been feeling progressively worse the last few days (and soooo exhausted) but the silver lining is less anxiety!
  • I'm so, so anxious too.  The first time around we were under the care of an RE, so we had betas, then a 6 and 8 week ultrasound.  Now I don't have anything until I'm 10 weeks.  It's so stressful!
