Hope everyone is doing well. This was my first week back to work. I've been so busy, and I don't even have students yet! I'm hoping this means third trimester (2 weeks til I'm there) will fly by!

  • My doctor told me I can go to the lab anytime this week to take my glucose test, and since I had an indulgent weekend I’m going to try and eat healthy this week and take it Thursday. Looking at the glucose drink in my fridge gives me anxiety! Is it normal to feel really crappy afterward? I plan to take it first thing in the morning and then go to work straight after (I work on the same hospital campus as the lab) but am wondering if I should ask to work from home that day just in case

When is your appointment? Tomorrow, 8/14

How far along will you be?
    28 weeks

    What is being addressed?
Glucose test, regular check up, dreaded weigh in.

    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
The glucose test really doesn't bother me that much. I don't like putting that crap into my body, but I will be glad to have it behind me. I can't believe that I go every two weeks now. I have a feeling that the last 6-8 weeks are going to move really slow though.

@firsttimespartanmom I don't feel great after it because my body isn't use to sugar like that, especially in the morning. I typically plan to eat something sort of carb/salt heavy after my appointment to help get rid of that nasty sugary feeling.

  • When is your appointment?
8/14/2018 - Ultrasound (yay!) and then Endocrinologist (boo!)

How far along will you be?
    26w3d

    What is being addressed?
Routine ultrasound :) and then my failed 1-hour glucose test. :(

    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
Really excited to see baby again and how much he has developed!  Nervous to talk about gestational diabetes and what I need to do to mitigate it.
Nov. '18 September Siggy Challenge: Falling into Fall

  • @firsttimespartanmom for reference, a can of coca cola has about 40g sugar, as does 16oz orange juice, and a grande frappacino at Starbucks has at least 50, if that helps you think about how drinking that much sugar will make you feel. It doesn't make me feel sick like I'm going to vomit, just sorta icky in my mouth like a wanna brush my teeth. Ask your doctor what you can eat beforehand (usually the 50g screen is non fasting), as some protein like eggs will help it from upsetting your stomach.

  • @lifesabeach85 makes sense! My doctor said to eat a normal breakfast. I ate primarily paleo before getting pregnant and thinking I’ll stick to eggs or protein rather than the bagel or peanut butter toast I’ve been eating. I’ll provably just crash super hard after it.

Omg!! I want all the peanut butter toast now!!!!!  :D

  • When is your appointment?
I went in today for an NST because of some issues

How far along will you be?
    I'm 27+1

    What is being addressed?
Had to get an NST due to RUQ pain and constant menstrual cramps

    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
I got a surprise u/s on top of the NST. My tech even got a few 3D shots. Baby was breech and facing towards my back so the pics aren't beautiful, altho we did get him smiling. I sent a pic to my H and his response was creepy. I had a crap ton of lab work done and I expect that I may be back at my dr before my next appointment, depending on what labs say.
  • When is your appointment?
    Tuesday and Friday

How far along will you be?
    28w4d and 29w

    What is being addressed?
PT appts. I caved and bought the support belt on Amazon so hopefully it will help!

    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
I need to ask how (if at all) these problems are going to affect birth.

@tessiesmom26 i don’t know if this will apply or help you at all, but just throwing my story out there jic. i had bad hip pain during my last pregnancy. at 20ish weeks, i slipped in the shower too, so that may have been a catalyst or an exacerbating factor. in my case, i’m pretty sure it was mostly spd based on what i could gather online. anyways, to possibly answer your question (about how this may affect your birthing experience): i had an epidural (so pain was numbed) and absolutely could not tell that the way/force that my legs were held back and open for a vaginal birth was messing up my hips even more post-birth. there ended up being major lingering effects for months afterwards (tmi: especially during sex). this time around, i’ve come across the advice to ask your nurses at the hospital to check how far/wide you can comfortably open your legs before you get numbed up (if you ultimately end up with or choose an epi, or even if you don’t and could be distracted by the excitement of birth). ask them to try to go no farther than that during pushing. there’s an official term for this measuring procedure but i can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called. hope that helps.
  • @firsttimespartanmom - I felt fine after the one hour test (with DS and with this baby). The 3 hour test on the other hand made me feel horrible.

@wildrainbow - FX for good lab results. RUQ pain with your history is scary I'm sure.

  • When is your appointment?
    It was this morning.
How far along will you be?

    What is being addressed?
Standard OB visit with 1 hr Glucose Test
    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
I found out today that my OB office is closing October 1. My doctor will be transitioning into an education only role for a few months (she's pregnant and due in December), and will eventually be leaving the state for another practice. So...I get to find another OB at almost 26w with Mo/Di twins. The good thing is that I've been seeing the MFM doc regularly, so I may get SOME consistency of pre-natal care throughout the pregnancy. I'm just hoping that I can find a doc that can get me in, will work with me to have a vaginal delivery (if possible), and isn't going to leave the state (the OB/GYN I was seeing prior to this OB left right before I got pregnant).

Here's hoping I passed the Glucose test. I don't know that my preggo emotions can take any more bad news.

that totally blows! thank goodness your awesome mfm doc is there for you. hope finding another obgyn is a smooth process for you. can you get a recommendation from mfm?
  • @highsteaks First of all, that Sully Hug is awesome! Thank you. I go to MFM on Monday, so I plan to talk to him about it then. I have a call into on OB who a bunch of my friends highly recommend, but I have a few questions I need clarification on before I make a decision. I also plan to talk to my chiropractor about it. She specializes in women's health, especially pregnancy, so she hears the good/bad of OBs in the area. I'm hopeful we'll find someone good, but it just sucks to have to do this now.

  • @smulrich16 I'm glad you have such a strong network of people to help you find the best fit. Hopefully that will help alleviate the stress of finding another.

  • When is your appointment?
    This morning (8/15)

How far along will you be?
    26w4d

    What is being addressed?
1-hr glucose test, thyroid levels (i have hypothyroidism), and some miscellaneous bloodwork

    Questions/Comments/Concerns:
I'm super paranoid about failing the glucose test.  You know that chubby guy in Matilda who is forced to eat the whole cake in front of the school?  I'm not saying that's me EVERY day...but it's pretty close.  If I'm not eating something fried or salty, then it's probably some form of sugar/carbs.  And candy corn came out in stores last week, so you know that's not great timing.  I have been drinking a protein shake (protein powder, spinach, peanut butter, milk, chia seeds, strawberries) in the mornings instead of sugary cereal, so I did that again today.  We'll just see what they say.

  • I got called in this morning to see my Dr. My labs came back and I officially have ICP. Luckily, my liver enzymes are still normal, but now all the super fun monitoring begins. We set a goal for 30 weeks and then we will go week to week after that. I'm very glad that baby is measuring ahead and weighs 2lb9oz. It will be good if he has to be taken early. Now we get to play the dance of finding the sweet spot between too sick and how long baby can bake. I'm hoping I can at least make it to 35 weeks again.

I'm sorry @wildrainbow. That really sucks. I'm glad your liver enzymes are normal. When were you diagnosed with your last pregnancy? Everything crossed he can stay put until those lungs are good and mature.

  • @mockingjay1 I was diagnosed at this same time with ds. My Dr calls me super special snowflake patient because nothing ever goes like it's supposed to with me. At least this time around I'm not starting out with elevated liver enzymes, but we will be watching then closely.
  • @wildrainbow  even though you knew it was likely coming, it still really sucks to get the official confirmation. positive thoughts your way that you can stay as comfortable and healthy as possible for much longer than expected, and little one gets to stay in safely as well. i’m so sorry.
  • @wildrainbow Sorry you are dealing with this again. Fingers crossed you can hold out as long as possible for you and baby boy. I will be thinking of you!

I got my support belt and tried it on. I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window already and it hasn't been 24 hours. When I first put it on, I did it real tight and my pelvis felt better, but my back and sciatic nerve were bothering me. So I loosened it up, and then my back felt better but my pelvis hurt again. It also can't be on my skin because it irritates it, so I have to put it over my clothes which makes going to the bathroom every 5 seconds a pain, because I have to keep taking it off. I am going to bring it to my appt tomorrow and have her look at it and tell me how it should be worn correctly.

  • @tessiesmom26 can you put a lining around the inside of your band? maybe the cut off bottom of an old tank top, or sewing some cotton flannel lining to it if you’re crafty at all? just spit balling some ideas...
  • @wildrainbow thinking of you! Hoping that baby can stay in there a while longer and it’s not too hard on you.
  • @wildrainbow so sorry to hear about your ICP diagnosis. At least your doctor is aware of the situation and monitoring you closely. Grow, baby, grow!
  • @wildrainbow - sorry to hear about your ICP. I had to Google it and it seems like a tough road ahead but it is always better to know and be prepared.

@smulrich16 - how is the OB search going? I hope you find one you like soon!

I had a Centering Pregnancy class/appointment on Tuesday. At that appointment, it was recommended that we all take the Tdap vaccine (for whooping cough, tetanus & diphtheria). Most of the other women refused it but I took it. It is still super sore two days later. Is anyone else getting recommended this shot?

  • @kamahina9 Yes! I think a bunch of us have gotten it. Good for you for not refusing it. It makes me sad so many refused it  :'( it's so important.

  • @kamahina9 that’s scary that so many refused it! The booster will help give your baby some immunity from whooping cough. Got one my last pregnancy and I will get one at my next appt or the one after that.

  • Kamahina9 I’m definitely getting the Tdap again. I do remember from last time this particular shot being really thick and my arm being sore for several days.

What is being addressed? Finely doing my GTT. I was supposed to do it last week.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Just drank the delicious awesome orange drink (sarcasm), now just waiting an hour for the blood draw. Hoping I pass it so I don't have to do the 3 hour test again.  :/

  • Congrats @offtoneverland

Thanks for all the confirmations about my shot. I usually just listen to what they suggest and if the risks don't sound too horrible then go for it. Good thing I followed by instincts .I was just so surprised at how many women turned it down.

  • @kamahina9 I am waiting to hear back from the OB office that has been recommended by quite a few people (including ladies from my twin mommy group). I actually used to go to that office, but they are waiting to get the okay from the OB to add me. The doc is out until tomorrow...so, here's hoping either of the OBs at that practice can take me on! I also meet with my Maternal Fetal today, so I'm going to talk to him about options, as well.
