Pregnancy safe makeup/skincare/personal care tips?

Wondering if anyone here has any holy grail pregnancy safe product suggestions?
At 33 I had been using retinol to combat the war zone of dark circles and wrinkles under my eyes but that's not recommended during pregnancy or even while TTC so I gave it up. My esthetician suggested trying something from the Eminence Skin Care line and I've found good results with the Wild Plum Eye Cream.
I'm also already a fan of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer, which I have read is pregnancy safe. (The blog 15 Minute Beauty is run by a pediatrician Mom of 2 and she has a good and CURRENT list of pregnancy safe skincare and cosmetics!)
Anyone else have any hot products to share?

  • I don't have any suggestions, but I'm also wondering the same thing! I got "baby shampoo" because I thought it'd be safer. But it just makes my hair feel nasty. Also interested in other personal care products like OP suggested.

  • Most beauty products are basically pregnancy safe as long as you stay away from retinols. If you want to practice an abundance of caution you can also avoid parabens.
I use a couple products from the Josie Maren argan oil line. I also get skincare products from The Ordinary, which is really just active ingredients and super affordable. I use a plant based squalene (in nature, sharks produce this), a synthetic huylaronic acid (your joints produce this naturally and it’s very moisturizing). And then my Josie Maran argan oil face wash and moisturizer are my other go-tos.
But honestly, there’s no need to ditch or change everything you already do.
  • If you want a good shampoo that's paraben free, I just discovered Acure organics. So far it's making my hair look healthy--which hasn't been the case for about 2 months

Get yourself a good vitamin c serum. It’s not as amazing as a retinol but it’s a great antioxidant to help against free radical damage. Stick with your spf too. Pretty much everything is safe except for salicylic acid, hydroquinone, and vitamin A products ( retinols)
  • @aggie0812 thanks for that suggestion. Oily hair 24/7 is making me feel crazy  :p

  • I think shampoos/conditioners are supposed to be safe.

What about hair coloring?  My last pregnancy I still was able to get away with 9 months and no dying ha, I am now older and that is not going to fly anymore.  I already desperately could use a cover of the grays.  Is this safe?
  • Beauty counter is almost the only thing I trust. There are "safe" products all over the place that are not really safe at all. If you go on the EWG website, you can look up How toxic ingredients are and even actual products. Beauty counter is having a huge 20% off sale right now too...but it ends soon, so hurry up if you want some safe products!! And no I'm not a consultant
  • Beauty Counter here as well. I love it on its own, but I also feel comforted knowing there’s no chemicals when my DDs get into it (which they do regularly, much to my dismay).
    I’m also not a consultant.
  • I had been thinking about making the switch to natural deodorant but my BFP kickstarted that. I tried Schmidt's Ylang Ylang Calendula but I think it has too high a concentration of baking soda because I had some bad irritation. I took a couple days off from deodorant (BLESS my DH!) to heal and today I'm trying Lavanila. So far so good!

It's a blog written by a pediatric critical care doctor and she has TONS of posts on pregnancy safe products
  • I’ve always loved origins products. They’re more natural, plant based, without parabens.
  • Ooo @LeighLa7 something new to try!  <3
  • Anything without fragrance or parabens. If you want to check out a product you have go to the EWG skin deep website: https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

You can see what’s in a product and if it causes reproductive issues. It’s what I use for almost every beauty product I buy pregnant or not pregnant.
