  • @sammierose464 same. And after finding out yesterday that he’s measuring a full two weeks ahead and has a giant head, I’m seriously considering requesting an induction at 39 weeks.

  • @sammierose464 Ugh, agreed. DD came at 39 weeks. I’d be totally ok with this one coming at 37.
  • Ditto above. I would be fine with 38 weeks. This kid is measuring huge
  • I read an interesting article about a recent study that showed that contrary to previous beliefs, women induced at 39 weeks had less complications and were less likely to need c sections than women left up go into labor spontaneously. It's just one study but it also makes me secretly wish for an induction. I have gestational diabetes so I think they'd be cautious about letting me go too long past the due date lest I have another giant baby. But I lost 5 pounds in the last 3 weeks, I am optimistic enough for a regular sized baby I even bought some newborn onesies. They are so cute, I hope this one isn't a ten pounder like her brother!
  • @jweber4747 usually they induce for gestational diabetes at 39 weeks anyways.

  • Really? They never mentioned that. I'll have to ask about that at my next appointment. I like the idea of having a definitive due date since I just plan on working up until she comes. Plus I have to arrange for a substitute teacher to cover me.
  • I have a growth scan next week since I was diagnosed with GD. So I'll be interested to see her size and what they say. I had gained the low end of normal of weight gain and belly measured perfectly for weeks. When I changed my diet 2 weeks ago for the GD, I dropped about 5-6 pounds so now I'm not in the normal range, but doc said baby is usually greedy and will still take what she needs. So I'm just anxious to know if it'll change anything about when they want her out.

My mom had GD with me and I think they induced her on my due date because they didn't want me getting too big. But that was 30 years ago. I was 7lb 3 oz. She didn't have (or wasn't diagnosed with) GD with my older brother and he was a pound heavier than I was.

Yeah, measurements done now are just educated guesses. They thought Z was like 10lbs when they measured me at 38 Weeks and I was mad they let me go to 41 Weeks. He was 8lbs.

But I would still like to go at 38-39 Weeks for the kids’ sake. Z was due 10/9 and was born 10/16. #3 is due 10/9. I really don’t want them to share a birthday. Z basically shares with daddy as is, H and his twin are 10/15.

  • Yeah they estimated DS as high 6's and he was 7.11

DS came spontaneously at 39 weeks...so like @SawyerRichardson I think if this one stays longer than that I'll be quite peeved LOL

I wish I could elect for an induction a week early. Prior CS kinda makes that one almost impossible; they scheduled me for a "gentle" one with DD because I basically begged to try for a VBAC and my BP at the end kept spiking and they were not fans, but DD came on her own the morning of the scheduled induction, so not like it really mattered. DS was only 4 hours early, and DD was 3 days late... I keep telling myself I'll be 5 days late, but I don't want a Halloween birthday baby, nor do I want to go into November. Never mind the fact that DD was 9 lbs, and I feel like this kid is even bigger...

  • And as far as size estimates go, mine went the other way - they estimated DD was low 7s, and boy were they off...

  • Induction with pitocin sucks guys, I know it sounds nice to induce and just get this baby outta ya, but it’s sooo not fun. I told my ob that this time around I’m open to really anything except that again!
  • @HoosOnFirst I didn’t even get pitocin when I was induced, I started with something to thin my cervix first. Then they broke my water and psycho labor stated. I have nothing to compare it to, but that first med was bad enough. I’m glad I didn’t get pitocin cause I’ve heard contractions are so much worse!! No thank you!! Please come on your own baby!

  • @jweber4747 Saw that article on NPR yesterday!
  • @krzyriver #1's birthday is 10/17. 39 weeks is 10/18. We'll be scheduling a c-section on Monday. My doctor was on board with waiting a few more days to separate the birthdays a bit, but then I saw the specialist the next day and baby is measuring big, and my blood sugars are sucking (T2 diabetic), so I'm worried he'll change his mind and make me schedule for the 18th.
  • @BrittanyCupcakes That would stink. I’m sure they’ll do what’s best for you and baby, but FX you can hold out a couple more days. Who knows, maybe the kids would all love sharing birthdays?

  • I'm so with you all on being ok with this LO coming a bit early. I would prefer that he waits until October just because I would rather him have an October birthday, but you won't hear me complaining if he decides to get out in September.
  • @HoosOnFirst I did so well until the end!
  • @HoosOnFirst It was so good but I was not expecting it to make me cry! I was so thrown off the first time I saw it!
  • I’ve talked with the twins and they can come in August or October (we have a RCS scheduled for 10/1), but not in September. we have 4 birthdays in September as it is and I just can’t add two more to that. 8/18/18 would be a sweet bday though. I have a feeling they’ll end up in September anyway since I probably have GD again.
  • A small part of me wants Griffin to come on Sept 20, which would be about 36 weeks. And that's only because it's the anniversary of my grandpa's death. It would just feel appropriate.
  • Oh man, Coco... I am a big cryer during movies, so there’s that... but this was the first movie that I’ve ever seen DH tear up at. That made me cry harder.
  • @quiltandknit Yep, I'm with you on the induction part, I don't think I'm going to attempt med free if I get pitocin. Thankfully I think my dr prefers not to use it? At least that's what I gathered from our conversation a while ago.
  • I’ve never gone past 37 weeks... my babies were 6 lb 13 oz and 7lbs 2 oz at 37 weeks so the idea of going farther scares me a little. I’ve already been told I’ll be induced at 39 weeks due to the gd, as long as I don’t get pre-e again, so it’s nice to have an official end date. For my cousin’s daughter’s wedding, 37 weeks (10/4) is ideal so I’m not taking a 2 week old to a wedding up north in November, but for my leave sake, 39 weeks is better (10/18) but my birthday and both my in-laws birthdays fall in that range. We’re 10/19, 10/21 and 10/22. So...  not super ideal birthday wise.
  • Yeah they told me having twins they wont let me go past 38w. I hope I get that far but I wouldn't be entirely heartbroken if I go a little sooner. As long as I hit 36 weeks I'll be happy since my hospital doesn't deliver any sooner than that

@KFrob @spartan4lifeand I think there was another one too. I am also in the less popular opinion of baby can stay longer and not come early! I want baby to come when it is ready and hopefully everything else is good. I also have a work thing the end of September that I really can't miss. Obviously  if he/she decides to come early I will find a way because I have to! But my ideal is baby waiting until 40 weeks (Oct 7th ish)

I'd like to wait for baby to come whenever they feel - but at least 38w would make me feel more comfortable.

@quiltandknit @jemmerjams  And anyone else worried about pitocin and med free: I've heard it can be horrible - but I had to have it with DS since it had been over 24hrs and I wasn't progressing. I didn't notice a difference at all and I had been worried. Though they registered the contractions as more intense and whatnot, I couldn't tell the difference. They also allowed me to move around, get in the tub, everything, with a remote monitor. If I had to stay still I think it would have been worse.
My cousin was also induced, with pitocin, and she had an 5 hour labor with 2 pushes, no other meds. She said it wasn't awful. My mom had me no meds, then later induced my brother with pitocin. She said they were comparable but different ways. His contractions were way more intense and she had back labor with me though, which was worse than any contraction pitocin could have produced.
Perhaps it's just the labor that your body does for the child that controls if pitocin is bad or not? And if you can move... I'd ask at the hospital tour if you are hooked up to pitocin, do they allow you out of bed? Because I think some don't and that would be a deal breaker for me.

And I know the peanut is supposed to be awesome, but I HATED it. It was so uncomfortable and it did nothing for me or my labor. The ball and tub were lovely though!
ETA: apparently the peanut portion was in the baby class thread. Ooops. Sorry.
  • My thoughts on 35 weeks or after is based on knowing SS was 34 weeks and fine. He did spend 1.5 weeks in NICU, but it was due to aspiration during labor and nothing to do with his development. Then he was jaundice. Obviously I'd like him to stay as long as possible, but I also know my own mental and emotional health is very strained right now.
  • Just to add my two cents in the pitocin conversation, I was induced and had to go on pitocin with A but not with E, who was also induced. Labor with E was 10 times more painful because I had back labor with her.
  • I want baby to come whenever ready, but it would be special if they came at 37+ weeks- on September 14th (birthday of grandma who died a few weeks ago) or otherwise wait until due date so I can stay on leave until after the new year.  But really I just want them to come between 37 and 41.
