Re: Product Spotlight Series: Rockers/Gliders

  • I think this is the glider we have (I'll double check the brand in the morning). We actually got this chair plus a second off of an auction site and I found this more comfortable. I love the swivle and the gentle rock of it. Also the arms were comfortable for feeding.  A bonus that is could also recline if I was just too tired to make it back to my bed.

  • We have the Kelcie Swivel Glider and Ottoman, which is available a lot of places, including WalMart and Amazon, but I found best price was Wayfair at the time. We also have a wooden frame glider from Target (can't remember if it's Storkcraft or Baby Relax). I prefer the upholstered one for nursing and dozing in, though I did need to buy a lumbar pillow for it as well. I also wish the Kelcie glider was just a couple inches taller in the back so I could let my head rest more fully without slouching. I just couldn't justify spending twice that price on the other upholstered gliders out there!

I have a Storytime Series glider that was purchased from BuyBuyBaby. I like the fact that it reclines because there were many nights I slept with ds on my chest when he was sick or I just wanted to be in his room. It did kill my back though and I needed a small pillow for lumbar support.

I have to say, it was pricey, more than I would have spent on it myself. My in-laws were hell-bent on buying it for me though and I'm very grateful for that.
  • I'm trying to see if I can find what we have anywhere. It was from Babies R Us and I couldn't find it anywhere else.

But basically it's one of the wooden gliders with beige material and an ottoman. The difference I found between that and the Dutailler was the material of the fabric. Most were microfiber which I hate and I ended up getting one that was a rougher (if that's the right word) upholstery. Easy to clean.

We will move it to the babies room from DD's room once we think the baby may be getting close to ready for it's own room. I RARELY used it while nursing or anything. It mainly came in handy once DD was in her room and we read books before bed.

Only pic I could find lol

  • Also wanted to add, I stressed over and over which glider/rocker would be the perfect one and honestly, it didn't matter as much as I thought because I don't spend much time in it. DH who is a big guy, can sit in it fine with DD and read

  • I don’t know the name brand of our chair. We got it at a small family owed furniture store (and for a great deal because the owners know DH).

It is so comfortable. I have spent many, many hours in this chair. I didn’t like nursing in my bed in the MOTN, so I always did it it this chair. We still use it every night to read to DS before bed.

  • I want to add that if you are on a budget or aren’t comfortable spending a lot of money on a rocker/glider, we bought the basic poang chair from ikea for around $60. It has worked well for all my kids and we just move it around from room to room when I have a new baby. Nursing in bed was too uncomfortable for me and I was much more relaxed and better positioned in a chair. It’s a great budget option that has served us well!
  • My in-laws bought us the nursery furniture we wanted - the crib, dresser, mattress, etc.  Because we didn't have to buy any of that, we decided to splurge on a swivel glider and ottoman from Pottery Barn Kids.  It's the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in and I can't wait for ours to be delivered.  One word to anyone else who was thinking of a PBK chair - because of the fabric we picked, it will take over 10 weeks and won't be delivered until right before Thanksgiving.  We still have time after that, but if we had waited much longer to order we would have been cutting it close!
  • I really love the duitailier (sp?) gliders. They're sooo comfy and the least offensive looking I've found so far (I really hate bulky furniture but it also seems to be the most comfortable). I don't think I can stomach paying so much money for a new one, but there's a TON on craigslist for cheap. I know it grosses some people out, but craigslist has been SO good to me in terms of decorating my condo and finding lightly used baby stuff.
  • We bought a swivel rocker/recliner from target because it was ridiculously comfortable. Looks very similar to the one @drabong88 posted but the back is a little thicker.

  • @drabong88 Do you think the back is too reclined in the upright position on the Piper? I was looking at the DaVinci Ruby which looks to be similar to the Piper just with rolled arms (and maybe a little bigger?). Some reviews say that even in the upright position the back is too reclined to be comfortable for BFing.

@DLpanda08 do you have the Ruby? Is the back okay? https://www.target.com/p/davinci-ruby-recliner-and-glider-gray-cream/-/A-53240448?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=PLA_Baby+Shopping&adgroup=SC_Baby&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=t&location=9016161&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzK_bBRDDARIsAFQF7zNJL4GvsUDubzV6kkAcNNe0e4y3ARfzob59nTVb6yI3lkZLpRJIGdkaAuBdEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

For those of you with recliners, did you get a pouf or anything to use as foot rest if you didn't want to commit to actually reclining and putting the foot rest up? Or does it pop up easily enough that it isn't an issue?

  • @lacroixliz we have this one

The back feels fine to me and DH (who is 6’2 and super picky). It pops out and back super easily so I’m not worried about having an ottoman or poof.

  • I checked now that I’m home and it’s actually a different one. Mine definitely reclines.

  • Anyone have a good old fashioned rocking chair? I got one a while ago as a hand me down.  It must be from the 60s. Just curious if anyone used anything like that,  did you like it?  Regret it?
  • We got a glider recliner from BuyBuyBaby and it's AMAZING! It's so comfy and looks like a glider (i don't like the look of large living room recliners) but it reclines. I thought I was solid on the idea of having a glider, but after searching and sitting in a million of them in our price range, then talking to others, we went with the recliner. I'm SO GLAD we did! Especially with DD was a newborn when she would fall asleep nursing and I just wanted to cuddle, I would lay it back. I used it during skin to skin time every day when she was less than a month old. We still use it to recline now and then, especially if she's not feeling well.

  • @ersh1010 We have one in our bedroom. It is nice for a little bit of rocking but is not super comfortable. If you had any long nights of needing to rock the baby for a long time, I could imagine your butt and back hurting. But I like having it as a back up in our room since the glider/rocker we got for DD is upsatirs

  • @ersh1010 we have a regular rocking chair.  I only sit in it for short periods of time to read to my DS! I would like to upgrade to something more comfy.
  • We have the dutailier model 908. It was the only indulgent item we went for, but it was also the only glider with a back high enough for my 6'2" husband to be able to rest his head on. It continues to be amazing and well worth the cost. Our DD will be sharing a room with her new brother, so luckily we only need the one and will continue to use it for both of our kids!
  • We just ordered our glider/recliner from Pottery Barn Kids this weekend and I'm SO excited. We went with the Charleston Swivel Glider and Recliner in the Natural Brushed Crossweave. We wanted a chair we could test out before buying (DH is very picky) and had tested several at BRU before it closed (hated them all). It was a little pricey even on sale -- $720 before tax and delivery. But we figure we got a great deal on other baby furniture (while BRU was going out of business) and will use the chair far past the baby stage. • We got our swivel rocker/recliner at BRU but the brand is available at a furniture store. It’s a Best Chairs recliner and I LOVE it. It was a gift from my parents and it wasn’t cheap but it’s a good piece of furniture that will last years. It’s super comfy too. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep in that chair and I’m not one of those people who can sleep just anywhere.

So update - instead of over 10 weeks, this took about 2.  I just got a call today to schedule delivery!  It could have been as early as tomorrow, but neither of us could be home.  I scheduled for Friday.  I'm so excited to see it in the room and sit in it!  It may become my new reading spot even before baby, it's just so comfy!
  • I ordered a Dutailer glider and ottoman set from BuyBuyBaby yesterday! And used a BBB 20% off one item coupon. I’m so excited to get it. My grandma had a similar glider and I always tried to call dibs on that chair whenever I was there. I’m going to live in that chair. We have a tv in the nursery so I have a feeling I’ll be hanging out in there a lot.

If you are thinking about ordering one, do it soon! The ship time for mine is about 12 weeks.
