Going off of the mention of screen time in UO thread...

I'm 20 years older than my brother. He has been in front of a screen since he was born. He was using phones and tablets since he was barely over 1 year old. He has had every gaming system available. He's terribly addicted.
This triggered DH and I to have a firm no technology policy with DS. He has no clue how to play a game on a phone or tablet. We just recently (last Christmas) started allowing him to play with these things. We got him a digital camera that has 4 games on it. 2 months ago DH built an emulator, so I've been letting DS play NES sesame street games (that I played when I was his age!) and super Mario Brothers. My BFFs son is about 6 months younger and is playing mine craft... We may have went over board with the no technology... Oops.

Okay so this is sort of a BF/FFFC rolled into one but here goes..

My mom and MIL are throwing me a shower. My mom insists on keeping it a "surprise." She did ask my thoughts on the guestlist, but other than that, she won't tell me (or DH) when it is. Well I'm no detective, but knowing what sort of activities that my mom, DH and I have coming up, it's not hard to conclude that the shower is going to be in October. So basically I am going to be at least 36 weeks before my shower and I am SO sour about it. I am nesting now and want to finish the nursery, but can't until after the shower, which at this point seems like it's forever away! I mentioned this to my cousin yesterday and she went on to call me ungrateful and said that "Maybe they shouldn't even throw me a shower."

This also came after telling my cousin that I wanted to go to this big consignment sale that is coming to a town over from me. It's a three day event and they have a pre-sale for expecting mothers. You pay $15 to get in. She gave me so much sh*t for wanting to go. First she said I shouldn't pay to walk around a room. (This came from someone who drove 3 hours to a different state to have dinner with her daughter and then drove back 3 hours.) She then said I shouldn't buy one thing for the baby until after the shower. I am not waiting until 2 weeks (I know this might be an exaggeration) before the baby gets here to buy anything. Not to mention washing/sterilizing everything before baby gets here and buying the items we want that weren't purchased off the registry.

I don't know if it's the hormones mixed with nesting but I'm so annoyed with the whole thing. I also hate that in their eyes annoyed = ungrateful. I am so grateful that they are taking the time to throw my shower and that they care enough to in the first place, I just wish they took how I felt a little more into consideration. Sorry if I am rambling, I'm just still steaming from yesterday.

I’m not sad that DD1 is starting kindergarten in a little over a week. It’s a little bittersweet/weird she’s that old already, but I’m so excited for her, and she’s so excited! I keep seeing his post go around about the night before the first day of kindergarten and being so sad and full of worry for your kid, and I’m sitting over here excited for her instead.

I finally have one to share. This drives me irrationally crazy and is really something I shouldn't let bother me, but math. I am bothered when people who are 28 weeks pregnant say they are 7 months, or 24 weeks pregnant and say 6 months, etc. I know it takes the basic idea that there are 4 weeks per month, but then they argue that pregnancy isn't really 9 months, it's 10. No, pregnancy is a full 9 months; it just doesn't ignore the 1, 2 or 3 days that come after the whole 4 week/month thought process.

@wannaflickone people/family members ask me how many months along I am... and I always answer in weeks, and they look at me like I’m nuts. So then I have to explain the whole math thing to them as they stare blankly at me. It’s super annoying.

@tessiesmom26 a surprise shower where you can’t even know the date? I’ve never heard of such a thing! I would probably tell your mom and MIL that you need to have the shower by a certain date (say oct 1 or whenever you feel comfortable) and just let the chips fall where they may. It’s not unreasonable to take your feelings and planning into consideration when the party is for you!

@pink_polkadots I answer in weeks pretty frequently too. It's just easier for me and is makes the countdown easier too.

@tessiesmom26 I totally get this. I had my shower less than a month before I was due and I was stressing over it, though also so grateful. I didn’t hit nesting super hard until right around that point though so it was easier to wait. Also, I knew the date lol. I’m sure the intentions are good, but it’s not fair to tell a nesting mother not to prepare for her baby and to be a sitting duck until gifts are given to her. I say go to that consignment sale and remember that if you get duplicates of something at the shower, you can always return/exchange. I’m grumpy atm but still, your cousin can shove it telling you how to go about your own shower.

Can I confess that I get really annoyed playing pretend games with my daughter? I mean, I love her so much and she's wonderful, but trying to play with her is so exhausting because she tells me exactly what to say and do and it's not exactly thrilling pretending that seashells are kids looking under the bed for their grandparents... (what I'm supposed to be doing right now...)
I'm not the only one who gets annoyed playing, right?

@offtoneverland Oh, no, most parents I know despise playing pretend with their kids!!! Totally normal. Playing pretend is the worst. I’m glad I have 2 to do that together.

@offtoneverland omg I hate playing with my DD. I feel bad about it. But it’s the same thing. “Mommy pretend this and this but you have to do this and say that and NO!! that’s not how you do it!”

@offtoneverland you aren’t alone! DD’s games have very specific rules that must make sense to her because she gets really mad if I’m not “doing it right” but they rarely make sense to me.

THANK GOODNESS....I so hate playing Barbies with my DD for this exact reason! The constant dictating what had to happen, and who will say what is exhausting. I just want to improv child!

I tried explaining to DD today that playing was not fun when she told me what to do. She said I could play my way, but as soon as I tried, she whispered in my ear what I should have done instead. Lol.
