Pregnancy support belts

Has anyone used one before? Do they really help? What other ways do you treat the back/hip pain?

I have a wicked bad back(like partially disabled and I get tingling in my extremities often) and I can already tell the little bump is wreaking havoc. My chiro recommended a lumbar pillow for work/car/bed but what about walking around and doing stuff? I've heard the support belts can help but never used one with my last.

The support belt really helped me last time in the late second and third trimester. I have a degenerative disc in my lower back that was exacerbated by being in a pedestrian accident (I was hit by a truck while crossing the street 6 years ago), so I was having a lot of lower back and hip pain. I would actually sleep in the brace for a few hours and then usually take it off sometime at night because my hips were really bad at night. The brace took some of the weight off by lifting the belly up, and it put nice pressure on my hips as they were spreading and acting all crazy. PT in the 2nd trimester was also a lifesaver for me. My back is actually better now after my pregnancy than it had been in years because I went to PT and did the exercises at home.

I had one similar to this:

I was a little nervous about wearing it all the time, so I limited my use to a few hours a day. Just tell your doctor your plans because there are some conflicting opinions on whether it's safe to use all the time or not.

I have degenerative disc disease and my C3-C7 is basically gone from years of wearing heavy gear in the military but they refused to do the fusion b/c I'm so young. I've done years of PT, pain management, etc. and it's livable but annoying. Now it's started in my low back. When I sit I lose the feeling in my toes but if I lay on my back I lose the feeling in my fingers. Maybe I should start with PT stuff again. I can just tell the extra weight it going to make it worse.

@ladystout08 I have a friend whose back was also destroyed by the military, and he's considering the fusion. The military is giving him a hard time about his medical care, too. I'm sorry that you have to put up with it. Back pain is the worst.

@kns1988 it took me months of fighting before I got a disability rating and my doctor thinks I should be fully disabled but the day I had my x-rays and nerve testing we found out I was pregnant so she put me through for a rating without the tests and told me to call her after I deliver and we'll do them and have it reevaluated. She thinks if I can wait until about 40 then I should do it. This started when I was 24 and I'm now 30. Give your friend my sympathies, it blows. And I'm sorry you deal with it too!

I used one in 3rd tri last time because I was so uncomfortable. It was one I bought from motherhood. It helped but it wasn't that comfortable (felt like a girdle) so i didnt wear it that much. I am interested in kinesiology tape this time around. Has anyone tried kinesiology tape? It looks more comfortable than a band.

So I'm looking at a foot stool for under my desk b/c elevating my feet seems to help the tingling.
I'm wondering if a yoga ball to sit on might help so I can move a bit more than my regular computer chair.

@Jackiemxoxo I have friend who are athletes that use KT for a lot of things, I bet it could be useful for pregnancy too!

@ladystout08 I have been using a foam yoga block as a foot stool and I feel like it's helping a bit! As far as belts, I have one that I use outside of pregnancy and that is safe for pregnancy use as well -- from my chiro, called a Serola belt. Its a sacroiliac support belt and helps with hip and pelvic pain. https://www.serola.net/
