Pelvic floor physio therapy

Has anyone done this? Was it a good experience? STMs, do you think it helped with your delivery?

I had some incontinence with my last cold and my midwife recommended it. I’m going to make an appointment even though the problem has since resolved itself. I figure it can’t hurt but it would be nice to hear some first hand experience for anyone else considering, especially if it’s not covered by your insurance.

Re: Pelvic floor physio therapy

  • I’m thinking of asking my OB about this at my next appointment. Being babies 3&4, my bladder/pelvic floor is definitely sad.

  • I did after #1. It was informative because I learned that I actually hold a lot of tension in my pelvic floor which causes me pain. I also learned that i can’t do kegels because they aggravate the problem.
  • Went to a seminar type thing by one during my pregnancy last time. Saw her 6 weeks weeks postpartum just to check on everything. She did a little bit of work, but I was pretty much good to go so that was the end of it. I’ll see her again after this one. I’d only go before birth if I started having any issues.
  • Yep! I started seeing her for crazy sciatica pain during pregnancy with DS2 and then after delivery (RCS) I saw her for hip issues and painful sex issues. It has been a great experience for me. Like @cdepperschmidt I was shocked at the amount of tension I hold down there.

  • I wish I could go. Tell me how it goes if you end up going. My pelvic floor is horrible after DS. I try to do kegels and I cant hold them very long. I always have to go to the bathroom really bad all the time and its painful to hold it for any amount of time. Me and bf have had sex once a month because my bladder hurts when we have sex. I dont have a uti or yeast infection. I have no idea whats going on I'm 21 and because my babies are gonna be 12 months apart I'm scared of being able to have any strength to push it out. After this im pretty sure my pelvic floor will be worse. The OB just brushes it off as normal. Its barely getting over time.
  • For anyone curious about physio, I went today and I would recommend it. I haven’t had any pain but I had a bit of incontinence. She had good explanations about the pelvic floor. Appointment was an hour and we chatted about my pregnancy, she assessed my posture, then did a pelvic exam. We practised pushing and “bearing down” and she gave me some tips that should help with the minor aches and pains and how to deal with incontinence during my workout routines. She said my symptoms were pretty typical and my pelvic floor seemed strong so I won’t return until after the baby is born. It was covered under my insurance so it didn’t cost me anything and I’m glad to have the piece of mind to know everything looks okay.
