  • @jkmartin723 This daycare thing is ridiculous. I've asked DH many times what our budget will allow and he has yet to give me a number. DS's last daycare was about 6k a year, and that was cheap for the area. I think I'm about to get some serious sticker shock for infant care.
Also, why can't the daycare centers just list their tuition on their website?! I'm so tired of clicking links titled "pricing" or "tuition" and getting a page that just tells me to call for more information. Does this mean you can negotiate price since they won't put them out for all to see? Do they look at my address to "see" if we can pay more? It seems a little sketchy.

@middleschoolmommy That is exactly how I feel!! My coworker just told me they spent 14k in one year for their daycare, for one kid. Average in this area appears to be around 9k for full time. I knew this would be a challenge but didnt realize how torn I'd feel.
  • How many weeks are you? How big is baby?
23 weeks - Size of a ear of corn apparently!

    How are you feeling? Symptoms?
Genrally and thankfully, I've been feeling great until this week. Definitely getting some stomach issues every now and then. I have snot and boogers like nothing every I've ever had before. A little swelling in the ankles but nothing a little rest can't help with. More exhausted easier. Lots of kicks and movement from LO.

    Appointments this week?
    No appts!

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
i am thankful MIL lives a block and a half away and willing to watch our LO while we have work. She's been looking for a reason to partially retire. These daycare woes sound stressful.

    25weeks - a small bag of sugar

    How are you feeling? Symptoms?
my feet have started to swell up but other than that I'm doing good for the most part.

    Appointments this week?
Finally have my contacts and glasses appointment where I need to see if the shape of my eye changed with the pregnancy. The specialist theorized that it's the reason I've been having eye injuries.
Centering Pregnancy Class #2 is Tuesday and the focus is supposed to be on nutrition. I'm tempted to skip it since I feel like I got enough nutrition info with the GD tutorial I had to go to. I'll probably go anyways.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I agree that I love feeling baby move. I get a little frustrated when I try to have DH feel it but he just says he thinks it's in my head cause he can't feel anything. I'm trying to be patient with him in those moments but it is really hard.

GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why?
i used to love Christmas but it seems like the last few years everyone relied on me to organize secret santa for the adults (my siblings). My oldest brother who has cerebral palsey, is partially paralized on his right size and deaf likes to try and guilt me into buying him $200 shoes every year and I just can't afford it. Long story short, I love Christmas but not all the pressure that is coming with it.

  • @mockingjay1 - I have to agree that seeing Christmas through my kid's eyes is magical! It's made me fall in love with the holiday again after a few years of grinchdom, haha!

@middleschoolmommy Luckily I'll be able to stay home with this baby for a while but I remember HATING it when searching for daycare for DD1 and no one lists the prices. I think they do it so that you're forced to talk to them and get their sales pitch? I don't know, but it's seriously so annoying and such a waste of time!
  • Just venting/getting my thoughts out...

I feel so limited in daycare options this time around! DS needs to have a decent pre-k program to start next month, we also would like it to be a daycare that will drop-off/pick-up at the elementary he starts next year. Most importantly, we need one that will have a spot for the baby in January. We are touring 3 different places tomorrow.

Option 1: Will be able to take DS in August and DD in January. They have extra pre-k programs like music, PE, soccer, and bible study (90% of daycares near near me are religiously affiliated). HOWEVER they are really expensive. It will be $380 a week for both in Jan =\

Option 2: DS can start in August. They use the same curriculum as the public school district DS will attend next year. They are very well reviewed and recommended by people in the NextDoor App. It is located literally right outside of our neighborhood and behind DS's future elementary. They are the cheapest option. HOWEVER they don't take infants. They start care at 6 months, meaning we would have to find an in-home daycare for DD until she can get into the daycare. (DS was in a home daycare from 13 months - 23 months and I loved the personalized care)

Option 3: DS can start in August and DD in Feb. They use a Texas School Readiness curriculum. They are the cheapest option for when just DS is going, but then it will be $200 a week extra for DD.

I'm hoping that, after the tours, we will be able to easily make a decision. =\ I really hate thinking too much into this, because then I feel like a bad parent for not being able to provide the absolute best for my kids. Money is the devil.

  • @middleschoolmommy - I really hope you love at least one of them (if not all three). Money is so hard. You're not a bad parent at all! I'm sure your LOs will do great wherever they go.

  • @middleschoolmommy - I hope the tours go well!! Not being able to afford the insane daycare prices is normal! It's insane how much they charge to watch babies.

I can't find a day care here that doesn't charge under $2,000/month. I have no idea what we are gonna do. Since we know we can't afford that we made our hours staggered as best we can. I will be working mornings when I go back (0530-1430) and my DH will be working nights (1430-2300). All we need is someone to cover a few hours in between but my in-laws don't want to do it and my mom is still working. My dad doesn't want to watch baby on his own cause he is uncomfortable with infants. Sigh, such a dilemma.

  • @middleschoolmommy I'm so happy to hear you found something that will work for you all and something your son is excited about. Daycare stress is driving me nuts. We too staggered our days/hours so are currently looking for care 1 day a week until baby is 5 months old. We are touring daycares as well and I just csnt believe the prices!
