Driving 11 hours home from the beach today, woke up at 4 am to start home and 5 hours later toddler finally fell back asleep, hoping for a long nap from her!
It’s hot as hell in Portland this weekend. Hiding at MIL’s community pool this afternoon and just hiding at home tomorrow. I usually like hot but near 100 when you already feel like barfing is pushing it for me.
On days like this (hubs is working and it’s just another day at home with darling daughters...) I’m starting to think a few days in the hospital in February will be a vacation!
We went to my sisters special olympics softball tournament today in bumfuck nowhere. Literally passed exclusively fast food, funeral homes, churches and porn stores. Her team won though and DS had a blast, so I guess it was worth it?

We’re on hour 4 of a 14 drive home and my toddler is finally napping too, woooo! I’m kinda jealous because I’m driving and my husband and son are playing on the Nintendo SNES. Minivans have their perks.
Damn. This pregnancy has really upped my snark. My door is knocked on every Saturday morning by church people even with my no soliciting sign. I usually ignore it but got annoyed this morning. Dude had the gall to argue with me about it. “I’m not selling anything!” Bro. You ARE asking for something, my time. No matter the reasons why you think knocking on my door every Saturday morning is important, don’t think you’re more important than being respectful of people’s homes. They looked at me like I was the Antichrist.
Today I’m going to try not to kill my husband as we try to clean and get the house ready for DD2’s birthday party tomorrow! Can’t believe my baby is going to be one!!!
In MIL stories. Mine (who I do very much love) just called to essentially tell me we are doing our pets a disservice by giving them chemo AND to boot we are jeopardizing the health of the baby. Ahhh happy Saturday!
We took the kids to the zoo this morning and left when it got crazy. Went to lunch and stopped for cookies and to pick up a marionberry pie at a local bakery. I’m so excited, I’m pretty sure I’m having pie and ice cream for dinner. Now I’m napping while the kids nap. Big win.
I was able to nap this afternoon while DD took hers. It was glorious. Now we are all hanging around until later when we go to the drive-In movie theater. Bringing DD to see Hotel Transylvania 3.
@megpants209 Ahh MILs. Mine this week tried to convince my husband that it wasn't necessary to take _any_ time off work when the baby is born, even though he gets 2 weeks off as a basic entitlement, plus has options for more. Because that would just be catering to his spoiled wife don't you know...

Well that’s fucking stupid. DH always takes two weeks when our LOs are born. I may push him to take a little more since he has the vacation time and it’s our last baby.
My husband worked out 2 months of parent leave. He took it right after my maternity leave so we could hold off taking DD to daycare until she was 6 months old.
DH probably won't be able to take time off on account of starting a new job at most 3 weeks before and it breaks my heart and scares the shit out of me. I never envisioned being alone so soon after giving birth given our generally kind parental leave laws. If someone tried to tell me that it was unnecessary if he could, I'd probably scare myself.

With your first, it’s not too bad, I promise. People can make its sound like it will be so hard, but it’s not that hard - I showered everyday, got out of the house most days... yes, you’re tired, but there is a lot of downtime to just sit and rest. The three months (assuming that’s how much time your taking) goes by in a flash.

Agreed completely - they sleep SO much, so you’ve got a ton of downtime to nap, eat and shower. It’s not a 12 week vacation, but don’t scare yourself!
@BourbonBiscuits I’m half Mexican but the rest of me is English/Irish/Scandinavian, so I burn but it turns. Right now I am extra crispy. Headed to Target right now with my mother and her first words were , “What happened? Forget you’re white?!”

Thanks! That's really reassuring. I'm in Canada so I'm currently debating between 12 and 18 months of leave. I imagine I'll get into a routine after a while.
