Non alcoholic my go to is just boring water. Alcoholic probably a good strong margarita on the rocks with a salted rim. We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant last week and not having a margarita with dinner was tough. I am a big wine drinker too, preferrably semi-dry to dry.

I only drink black iced coffee and water for non-alcoholic drinks.
Wine is my alcoholic drink of choice. Dry. Bold. White or red. Delicious. All I wanted after my last pregnancy was a rare steak and a lovely glass of cab sauv.
@maggiemadeit I love bourbon cocktails, but I can't drink them all night. Last pregnancy I could smell bourbon and wine from across the room and it smelled soooooo good.

Good 'ol water. It's healthy, zero calorie, it leaves no aftertaste, and you can drink as much as you want with no concerns.
I drink milk and water, and that's pretty much it. I dislike tea, hate coffee and hate carbonation. I never drink pop. I drink the odd cup of juice once in a great while or vitamin water. Not pregnant or breastfeeding, I have the occasional margarita or glass of wine, maybe once or twice a month. I don't like most alcohol either. I only like margaritas and very sweet wines.
Water mostly, and juice sometimes (pomegranate, carrot, etc.) Michelada (beer + tomato juice + spices) Bloody Mary (I can order virgin bloody marys now!) Tequila straight (none now) Margaritas (also out)
Non sweet flavored fizzy waters and wine. We live near a lot of really great wineries so when I’m not pregnant we tend to try our new ones on the weekend.
Seltzer for non alcohol. I don’t really have a favorite for alcohol although I guess I most often would have wine. I like craft beer and margaritas too.
Non-alcoholic: water (mineral or flat) mostly, occasionally a smoothie or green juice, some coconut waters (some brands are really nasty so it’s a gamble)
Alcohol - Oh boy, so many choices Depends on my mood, weather and if/what I’m eating. Cold clear beers are great on vacation/hot days, aperol spritzes if I’m feeling fancy, red wine in colder months, rose/sparkling wines in warmer weather....ooh and my favorite sangria is made with cava, bourbon, and white peaches yummy...great, now I sound like a total alcoholic lol
@meggyme I already asked MH to prep a nice bottle of champagne for the delivery room...he’s all no way they will allow you to drink, and I was all “um, I’m pretty sure a little bit of bubbly is much less harmful to the baby than that epidural” He was not amused lol
Breastfeeding question in spoiler. Not sure if this is touchy subject or needs to be in different thread.
Speaking of, anyone do “pump and dump” while breastfeeding? Is it even necessary or will just waiting it out be enough? A few of my friends avoided alcohol altogether while BF which I thought was unnecessarily strict, but I’ve also read that the first few weeks (?) of breast milk is different and very important for baby and I don’t want to risk contaminating that. My question pertains to the period after that. Of course I am making the assumption that I am able to breastfeed (FX), but we don’t know til baby arrives...
ETA: well, a quick Google search seems to indicate that “pump and dump” is an antiquated idea. Contemplating deleting this segment of my comment to save face
@navete don’t feel silly for asking that, I definitely pumped and dumped a couple of times in the past. I’ve also recently heard that it wasn’t necessary but it made me feel better so I did it
Non alcoholic - I am living on peach citrus tea lemonades from Starbucks.
Alcoholic - Wheat beers or vodka tonics.
@navete When I had my daughter, my doctor advised to just not overdo it. She said if you would feel comfortable driving, you could safely breastfeed. I was just super careful about timing, and never really had more than one drink, because that's what I felt okay with, personally.
@navete I had the alcohol test strips and definitely pumped and dumped. It was rare though since I knew I had to function during the night and couldn't sleep in.
@navete The alcohol only stays in the milk as long as it stays in your blood stream and even less of it acctually reaches the milk than your blood. I always followed the same rules that I would for driving. One beer I would BF, two or more I would wait a few hours before feeding. What I usually ended up doing is having a drink right after a feed. That way by the time DD was hungry again, the alcohol was out of my system. I only had to pump and dump if I was ingorged and in pain like if I was out for a girls night away from baby (hand pump is amazing for that). Everyone feels a bit differently about what they feel is safe but those were my rules for myself.
@BuckeyeNut05@JLaVO888@greenbee@char245 Thanks for the insight ladies! Sounds like it’s something to do in moderation and using good common sense. I like the idea of timing it with feeding and using test strips at the onset if I’m overly paranoid. As a FTM, it seems I’m going to be doing a lot of feeling things out for myself while also being informed about standard practices...a fine balancing act if one is easily swayed by public opinion.
@navete Yes, parenting is all about following your intuition. You research the crap out of everything and on most issues for every article you read that take standpoint A, there will be just as many that take standpoint B. You will learn what things cause you more or less stress and what things help you survive the first year. You will do a great job if you remember not to take any one person's opinion too seriously. You do you and don't apologize for it.
@navete the tricky part when you first start bfing is that they eat so often, you can't be sure it's out of your system by the time they want to eat. I've pumped and dumped before, but more because we went out for the evening and my breasts were super full before bed. Like others said, if you don't feel tipsy you're probably fine. I always wondered if drinking while breastfeeding would be best case scenario because by the time it hits your bloodstream you're done nursing.

I’ve been feeling a little queasy lately so I’ve been drinking a mock tail of ginger beer, water or sparkling water, and mint. It’s like a virgin moscow mule and the ginger helps with the nausea.
