haha I really like the Beastie Boys but agree about U2. I personally hate the Beatles -- terrible songwriting, worse vocals. Always off key, drives me bananas.
@wkuandrea I also hate the Beatles. I think it’s my internal backlash to the OBSESSION most people have w them.
I get a really bad vibe from adults who like Disney - like the women who drag their husbands and all wear matching shirts and have Mickey on their credit cards. I am confused about why grown adults would be so into something for children like there’s some nostalgia and longing for innocence that’s completely escaping me there.
@UnbreakableKimmySchmidt I’m actually a really big fan of lularoe leggings... and lularoe clothes in general. I have a ton of the different styles and wear a Carly with leggings to work most days.
I guess my UO is that I love bold prints on clothes. I can appreciate basic black, but I find most solid colors boring. And I like to mix prints.

you're breaking my heart @UnbreakableKimmySchmidt! I actually love them because they are ugly... but I hate the company (I used to sell LuLaRoe and got burned BAD). So I'll jump on and +1 you out of principle
I think LLR the company is awful but I wish I could get such comfy leggings anywhere else! I don’t own a ton of their stuff but what I do own is the best.
Also I LOVE Disney. I mean. I don’t make H and I wear matching shirts. I don’t have a Disney credit card. But I am always down for a Disney vacation.
My UO is that I think the show This is Us is majorly overrated.

DH and I will NEVER play Kidz Bop for our kids. We’d rather they listen to the original versions of songs. And if the original versions aren’t appropriate for whatever reason, there are plenty of children’s/inoffensive songs to choose from on YouTube/Pandora/Spotify these days.
@UnbreakableKimmySchmidt agreed. I actually do have one pair of black LLR leggings that are super comfy but pretty much everything else makes me cringe when I look at it. That being said, I got some shirts from my sister when she gave me her hand me down maternity clothes and I wear them when I need an ego boost because I am a 36G and never been particularly skinny and the size XS is like a tent on me.
@Potterphile I'm also weirded out by adults obsessed with Disney. My cousin and her husband have left their kids at home and gone to Disney World just the two of them on multiple occasions. Aside from that being SO sad for the kids, I just don't get why you would choose a place FULL of other people's screaming children as your "adults only" vacation.
yay glad that other people like LLR stuff -- I wear the Carly dress (short sleeves, like a big tent) all summer long. And the leggings really are the most comfy. There are definitely some ugly prints out there -- but I'm with @DLpanda08 I love to mix prints! My fave pair of leggings (outside of black, obviously) are red with blue pigs on them.
+1 for weird Disney obsessed folks (specifically grown women). I like toys and cartoons and stuff, but some people take that Disney thing way too far.
Other things getting on my nerves lately: women that are further along than me but only look like they may have had a big lunch. I have a friend due in Nov that still looks like NOTHING is going on. She also already had a baby shower.
Last UO: pregnant women wearing heels. Why? Your balance is already wonky, your knees are in danger because your joints are relaxed, your feet are swelling... why?
@Potterphile the adult Disney obsession is also something I don't understand... I am excited to take my children someday & see their reactions for sure, but it always struck me as weird when couples travel to Disney just the two of them (especially honeymooning there seems odd to me). I've always felt like, if you're going to have kids that's a family vacation you're probably going to take with them, I'd definitely prioritize other vacations/destinations for couples-only trips.

Maybe this belongs in the FFFC tomorrow, but I’m one of those Disney obsessed adults. DH is even worse than me. We have the Disney credit card with Mickey on it. We had a Cinderella and Prince Charming cake topper at our wedding. We went to Disney on our honeymoon and have been there several times as adults. This summer we went as a family for our very first family vacation and I made everyone matching shirts for the whole week.
I love that from the time I arrive until the time I leave I don’t have to do anything but enjoy myself. I can be in the parks or do any number of included activities. They have excellent resorts and dining options. It’s one of the few places where I have nothing but happy memories.

I guess my UO is that I really like going to Disney World. I think there’s lots to do there for adults that I really enjoy. It doesn’t stop us from also traveling domestically and abroad to different places as well.
I’m not obsessed with Disney by any means, but I enjoy going there. My friend works for Disney corporate so DH and I get into the parks for free. Can’t beat that perk.
@BitterBetty12 nooo I love this is us lol. It's one of the few new shows I watch.
Also I've never beem to Disney but I can't wait to go and take DS and kid #2. We actually were already planning a trip for March with some of our friends ( one of whom works for the coast guard so he gets some nice discounts ). And then we found out I was pregnant with baby #2. I am actually really bummed that we are going to have to postpone our trip but I'm not sure taking a 3 month old to Disney is a good idea. Also it will be after my maternity leave so a lot of our savings is going toward that
For those of you standing in line today at Build-a-Bear bc you pay for the bear based on your little one’s age, WHY. Just why. I don’t get it. Long wait times for a freaking bear? I’d rather pay full price and avoid that hot mess.
Lu la roe leggings are ugly. Personally glad that fad is on it’s way out.
Agreed!
Related UO: leggings are not pants. It's one thing with a long shirt that covers the butt (though I still don't love the look), but when I was in law school I would see so many undergrads wearing leggings and short shirts (and $5k purses, but that's a whole different issue). It was so hard to resist the urge to suggest they go put on some real clothes.
@AliKay20 we were at our mall to see a kid’s show and B-a-B was madness! DD has so many stuffed animals she never plays with and won’t wait in line. I would rather pay full price too (or get the grandparents to take her! Haha)
@AshVA I used to be firmly in the leggings are not pants camp too.. Until I was pregnant with DS. Then I embraced it
ETA: My butt is always covered, though.
I totally understand the appeal for pregnant ladies, though I still think think long shirts are necessary. With the undergrads it was ridiculous.... if a stranger walking behind you on the sidewalk can tell with a casual glance that your thong has a lace trim (true story), you need to put more clothes on lol
ETA: I fully intend to wear thick pregnancy leggings under work dresses in the winter, because dresses > pants. I'm hoping that will be warm enough. I normally wear black or white ski base layer pants (basically thick, super warm leggings) under dresses so I can wear dresses all winter, but I suspect I *may* have some trouble finding maternity ski base layers lol.
@Potterphile I was just thinking as I read your Disney UO "well what about all those adults who are obsessed with Harry Potter which is technically for children" and then I looked at your screen name and I had a good giggle at the irony
FWIW I agree it's weird. Also having grown up with a sister who is obsessed with weird kids stuff I find it super annoying. She put an Eeyore bumper sticker on the car we had to share in high school...my parents let her leave it on there to try and save the peace and boy was I pissed
Another UO: The trend of “microblogging” on Instagram annoys the heck out of me. I just want to look at your pictures, not read 2 paragraphs on how fast your kid is growing up.
Married: May 2012 DS1: May 2016 DS2: Jan 2019 Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
@saltedcaramel518 I like the microblogging. A lot of people post nature shots or do astrophotography that I follow and I really like knowing where they were and what they were doing. It's a nice little back story. I don't follow people with kids or it would probably bug me too though. There is a small handful of my friends kids I actually care about, and they don't blast IG with pictures.
I am a microblogging instamom...yikes! I also do not overpost. Maybe two posts a week. Mainly about motherhood but others just on lifestyle. It’s actually connected me to a lot of other moms on Instagram - some local and others not. I just really enjoy photography and use it as my creative outlet.
Also a microblogging insta-Mom. Whoops! I only do posts like that once a month at most though.
Mans @DLpanda08 hit everything I love about Disney. It reallyis a resort with SO MUCH to do. I literally love every second of my trip. And h and I did go there on our honeymoon. It was perfect. It really isn’t just for kids. They have clubs and fine dining and shows. It’s great.

@KLS123 I was wondering if someone would bring that up but I don’t have a Harry Potter credit card so I’m saying it’s fine. I don’t think it’s weird for people to be fans of things (even things I don’t like or have interest in- I’m talking to YOU Dr. Who fans) but I don’t GET Disney like WHO IS MICKEY like what is his personality? Does he say words? What is there to like or identify with except the IDEA of childhood or make believe. The resort is fine but do you have 15 pairs of mouse ears? I don’t think a loose liking of it is odd (I don’t want to stab Winnie The Pooh or anything) but there’s a level of obsession w old school Disney that’s just incomprehensible for me given the subject matter and the lack of depth in the subject matter.
@AshVA I was wondering when I would stop identifying with you on something. I must insist that leggings ARE pants. I wore em in law school and I wear them now. Might even be wearing them today idk - what’s the difference between stretchy maternity pants w no button/zipper and leggings? I’m not sure.
@Potterphile Hey now I love everything HP too. Plus tons of other nerdy stuff! But I didn’t think DubCompanionGryffindorJediHobbitOfWesteros would be an appropriate SN....
Definitely alll about wearing leggings as pants! I think as long as they're thick enough that you can't see every dimple/panty line they're no worse than tight skinny jeans. I live in a neighborhood with lots of college students and stay at home moms that just wear yoga clothes all day every day so I don't even think twice about it.

I feel like Mickey is more of a symbol of the greater disney experience. Walt Disney got his start with the steamboat Mickey cartoons and everything built from there. There is a theme in most, if not all, Disney projects that dreams are worth chasing. That's what I identify with. It's less about Mickey himself and more about a general feeling of possibility and imagination. To me, mouse ears are the equivalent of people who have hogwarts house clothing. I'm not actually a hogwarts alumni, but my Ravenclaw scarf reminds me of the books just like my mouse ears make me think of all the sweet moments I've had in the parks.

I do agree there's a fine line between leggings vs things like yoga pants, depending on the thickness. My biggest issue is with the really thin leggings that leave little to the imagination (I wasn't exaggerating earlier when I mentioned being able to see the outline of the lace trim on some undergrad's underwear).
I enjoy Disneyland, even as an adult, and I've heard from every friend that has kids that the best part of Disneyland is watching their kids faces as they experience it for the first time.
@Potterphile Mickey definitely talks. He's got mickey's club house on the Disney channel. He's caring, kind and loves his friends. I don't even have kids but I've seen the cartoon at my sister's house.
I don't think there is anything wrong with enjoying fairytales and stories. Even if you're an adult. I don't personally have anything Disney themed in my house, yet, as i'm sure that will change once little boy is born, but I don't really care if others do. If you love it, I love it for you.
I LOVE Disney! If it was acceptable to wear a Belle dress to Disneyland I totally would. I asked DH if we had a girl if we can have a Beauty and the Beast nursery. He said no
I thought leggings weren’t pants until I got pregnant with DS. I still wear long shirts and over them.
@wkuandrea I would agree about heels in most contexts, however a good friend of mine loves them. She never had ankle weakness or balance issues in pregnancy, and so wore heels until she was about 8 months (though towards the end it was boots with a thick heel). So, I guess it works for some people.
One day while she was out walking at lunch, she had a complete stranger pull her car over to the side of the road to yell at her about wearing heels.
@AliKay20 I totally agree about the Build A Bear insanity. I read an article that said some people waited in line for 3-6 hours, all to save a couple bucks on a stuffed bear. I think that's just crazypants.
I love Disney. We never got to go there growing up, and when I was 23 my mom took me and my little sister there. I'll never forget seeing the castle and watching shows. I'll never forget the good meals or the fireworks. I have a few souvenirs, like photo frames, shirts, etc. My H and I went the first year we were dating and it was a great trip. We ate at good places, ran the jogging trails, drank at epcot. I love it.
I , too, love Disneyland. But I've also never understood the crazy obsession of adults having Mickey everything. I wanted to buy an Ariel shirt once but the people I was with talked me out of it, lol, but I ended up buying my daughter the cutest ariel sweatshirt. I am lucky enough to live a few hours from Disneyland so my daughter and I went more than I count the first 4 years of her life. Then it just got crazy expensive and I couldn't do it anymore.
There is definitely a difference between loving Disneyland and being Disney obsessed. But I understand it because it truly is an amazing place.
The only time I’ve been to a Disney Park was when I was 18. My parents took me along with my brother. It was fun but I’ve never taken my kids. I would like to take them but I want to wait until they are old enough to remember it. My parents love going to Disney world. They have taken each of their grandkids when they turn 8. All of their grandkids love it and look forward to it. My daughter gets to go this fall and she can barely contain the excitement. I think that’s pretty amazing since they are more financially able to do this than I am. If I’m never able to do it then at least my children will get to experience it.
