So I know family meals are important and all but I vastly prefer the nights DH and I get to eat dinner alone to the nights we eat as a family (it sorta depends on when she goes to sleep/how long she naps). We eat breakfast and lunch together every day and dinner together probably 4-5 nights a week.

It’s just such a hassle, she needs something every ten seconds. Like foods too hot, blow on it, or more cheese for her tacos, or she dropped her fork or she wants more water or it’s not cut up right. And then she eats like four bites and “all done! Cookie time?”

@lifesabeach85 Yup! Exactly my feelings too. We all eat breakfast together and most dinners, but I definitely make sure H and I have a dinner or two alone every week. I also won’t eat lunch with my toddler. I feed him, put him down for a nap, and then eat my lunch in peace.

i almost burned down the hotel yesterday morning. dh asked me to toast him a bagel on one of those huge conveyor belt toasters, and i didn’t realize you had to split the bagel before you ran it through. i left it to go back to the omelette bar to grab my food, then when i went to retrieve the bagel, i saw smoke coming out of the machine and no bagel in sight. it got caught in the back. i turned around and quickly begged the nearest person working to help. he was able to turn the machine off and scrape the bagel out. when i admitted that it was my fault, he was super nice about it. there was still a lingering smoke smell over an hour later

Dunno if this is really a "confession" but, we found out yesterday we're expecting a baby girl and I'm freaking out in my head! I was not at all this scared when I was thinking baby was a boy. I already have a SD who is great so it's odd that I'm feeling so uneasy about it. Obviously all kids are unique and to say "boys are easy than girls" or whatever isn't true. I'm just not always good with other women, I have female friends but I'm not like BFFs with any of them. Nor am I a very girly girl. Also I know how many self image/self esteem issues I had growing up and I don't want LO to go through the same things. Granted both parents are important but I'm going to be her primary role model in how to become a woman one day and I'm terrified I'ma eff that up royally.

TL;DR ftm worries are starting to set in lol

@highsteaks omg! I'm chuckling a little bit simply because I know if it were me I would have been panicing like a chicken with it's head cut off. Glad all was alright in the end! Maybe they should put a sign up saying to split the bagel before toasting you can't be the first person to ever do that

also, i totally had the same exact thoughts when we found out dd1 was a girl. now, i LOVE that we have a girl (and two more on the way). i’m sure you’ll be a great role model.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I'm not a ftm and I'm still terrified of having a girl! I cried when I found out, saying to DH "I'm okay, it's just that she's going to hate me" lol I didn't have the best relationship with my mom growing up, and with teaching middle school, I'm terrified of having a teenage girl

I was terrified to have a girl for many of the same reasons as you. My daughter is only 4 (almost 5) and we both teach other everyday but I’m so thankful for her. I am terrified of the teen years with her though, not gonna lie.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I haven't really thought too much about all this yet, but it is definitely scary. Raising kids in general is terrifying, because I'm like, 'Please, just don't let me raise an asshole. Please let me raise a decent, kind, respectful human being, or I will have failed.' The body image thing is a biggie, too, because I've never struggled too much with my body, but I do remember that around 10 or 11-years-old is when I started thinking I was fat. Which is also terrifying, because that shouldn't have even been on my radar at that point. Hopefully I can teach this little one to be confident in her body, but I realize there are way more factors at play than just your mom telling you you're beautiful. Hoping to at least do my part.

Raising kids is so scary. I feel like my 3 year old hates me most of the time because, you know, toddlers like to have their own way. But then she looks at me out of nowhere and says "Mommy, you're the best" and it melts my heart and reminds me that I'm doing a good job after all.
We can do this, guys! Just the fact that we're worried about it and wanting to raise good kids shows that we'll all be good, caring parents no matter what life throws at us.

My FFFC: MH and I left work early today and went home and had sex.

That wasn't our sole excuse for leaving early, but hey, why not?

I’m the opposite, and since I have 2 girls, I’m terrified of this boy! I know it doesn’t make logical sense and it’ll all just come to us, but it’s unknown/scary.

I’m also kind of sad that I likely won’t have another girl, and we are done with the tiny dresses/headbands/rompers/Mary janes. I also know I shouldn’t be sad and I should be grateful we will have both, but...still kind of sad.

@runningyogimama Not sure if it helps, but I would have felt the same way if we were having a boy this time around. I grew up with just a sister and I love girly things, so the idea of having a boy scared me a lot. And I just don't like boy clothes as much as those adorable girl clothes! So I don't judge you for those feelings one bit.

@offtoneverland I have a brother, and I grew up always wanting a sister, so I LOVE that my girls have that, and even more so, since they’re almost Irish twins so have always had each other, and I think a third girl would have been cool. I hope this one doesn’t feel left out since he’s a boy AND so much younger.

@lurvleybunchococonuts So happy for you that your A/S results were all clear and you have a healthy baby girl on the way! Sounds like the NIPT was just a fluke. You might have been just as nervous if you found out definitively that baby was a boy - it's just more real when you know more about them, and worrying about your kid is just a part of your life now forever - yay parenting! Don't worry about not being a girly girl or having a lot of female friends, I think it's really important for little girls to see that being a woman means all kinds of different things. Besides, parents really have less control over what their kids will be into than they want to think - how many times have you heard of a really feminine woman, maybe a pageant girl or cheerleader who's daughter is really sporty or a dad who has his heart set on his son following in his football glory days and then the kid ends up being a theater enthusiast - they are who they are! Unfortunately the body image issue is a real one, but I think it's one for boys too more than they would like to admit. You just have to do your best to show them you love them just as they are every day, and you will!

@lifesabeach85 Yeeeeesss to this. So much getting up and down. We still eat together as a family every night but a lot of nights that looks like her pouting and saying “I don’t want!” and me saying “Okay well you know where to find it when you’re hungry.” and continuing with my meal. Not sure if that’s a better approach to forcing her to sit and eat but it’s all I can muster at the end of the day.

Finally thought of one, even though it's late. Almost all of my kid's clothes are stained. I don't even try to keep up with the messes anymore. However they come off his body is how they're thrown in the wash, unless it's a special outfit. I do not have time to spot treat every single t-shirt or pair of shorts that gets spaghetti sauce, cherry juice, or whatever on them.
