How are you feeling? So tired after DH woke me up last night and I couldn't go back to sleep. Other than that normal aches and pains.
Rants/raves/questions? I think I ranted enough in the WTF thread, but I am absolutely useless today.
Any appointments this week? Yesterday - everything looking good. Weight has been stable for the past 6 weeks (yay). Next appointment is not until the 9th and 10th because of stupid holiday week. I couldn't get an appointment for week 36 even though I'm supposed to start my once a week appointment schedule. Oh well, I'll just call every day and see if someone cancels I guess.
GTKY: What’s the worst or best advice you have gotten for baby? Oooohhhh this is a good one. I can't say I have gotten much in the way of advice yet. At least no one has been pushing their opinions on me directly which is good. No one has batted an eye when I said I fully intend on having an epidural. I only see the indirect things about natural childbirth, anti-circumcision and anti-vax stuff on my FB news feed and that's really only a couple people.
How are you feeling? Just usual discomfort and occasional lightening crotch. Otherwise getting the sense LO is going to come late because I'm not experiencing any early labor symptoms. Hoping baby doesn't come too late because I don't want to "waste" any of my leave, if that makes sense.
Rants/raves/questions? Just so ready to be done working. Today and tomorrow and then I'm officially out on maternity leave until late Sept. And also super annoyed with SIL again. Bro and SIL announced yesterday that they are expecting a baby in early January and you'd think she's the first woman ever to be pregnant. I thought she was a princess before. And also acting like this will be the first grandbaby. Nevermind the fact that bro has a kid from his first marriage, our older bro has an 18 year old, and also, oh, that I'm having a baby any day now.
Any appointments this week?
Weekly check in with the midwife tomorrow and then NST. I've declined the cervix checks up until now because I guess I feel like that's just watching the pot boil, but since I'm starting to think baby is going to come a little late, I'm getting a little curious about if anything is happening down there.
GTKY: What’s the
worst or best advice you have gotten for baby? I'm not sure yet! I guess we'll see when we try some of the "advice" out! LOL. Every baby is different so all the advice we've received has been all over the board and so much of it contradicts other advice, so we're just hoping that we can be flexible and adaptive while we figure it all out.
How far along are you/how big is baby? 36 + 4, papaya
How are you feeling? Ohhh I've been better... lol. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed trying to wrap up all of my work before I leave, and of course just so tired and sleepy (but yet not getting any sleep). I'm also starting to feel quite crampy in recent days and am wondering if those are more frequent BH starting to rear their heads?
Rants/raves/questions? Rants: I feel like my boss doesn't want to accept that I'm leaving next week so is not taking any transfer/handover of work seriously. I've been trying to schedule meetings with her that she keeps cancelling. I'm like...it can't be my problem if this never happens and you are just left to literally root around in my files and feel helpless anytime something comes up. I tried.
Any appointments this week? Well, this week was a little crazy - thought I was leaking fluid so went to the hospital on Monday where they monitored babe and took some swabs, then went for an ultrasound on Tuesday to monitor fluid levels, all was good, then had a regular check up on Wednesday where they did the GBS swabs... having a little break now lol. But I'm scheduled for weekly appointments from now on, and bi-weekly blood draws for platelet counts.
GTKY: What’s the worst or best advice you have gotten for baby? "you could actually smoke meth for the first 3 months and your baby would be fine." SOOOO horribly wrong.
@noideawhatshesdoing I applaud you for making it to 39 weeks at work!!! You are a star!
@canucklehead123 Working this late is out of necessity. I wish I could have been off sooner, but I don't have paid maternity leave, so had to work as long as possible to have a paycheck and to accrue as many PTO hours as possible to use while I'm out. Mentally, I've been half checked out for a while, otherwise I'd be working up until the due date which was my original plan. It helps that I work from home full time, so I don't have a commute and can sneak in a nap during lunch if needed. Hope your boss gets on board with the idea of you being out! Mine didn't seem to want to do it either, but now that she has, she's completely freaked out about my workload and it's taking 3 people to cover for me while I'm out and she's talking about also bringing on a part time admin as well. I did tell them I was busy.
How
far along are you/how big is baby? 36 + 4 size of a mountain dew bottle, chihuahua, or bag of Cheeto puffs
How are you feeling? I'm done. Feeling the constant need to poop however no actual pooping. Baby is extremely low and the pressure/pain is alive and kicking down there. I'm exhausted as well.
Rants/raves/questions? As I stated in the Labor thread, my ob told me that I am already 1/2cm dilated, she could feel baby's head when she did a cervix check, and my cervix is extremely thin. She believes I may see her 1 more time, possibly 2. However, my siblings are in betting mode that I will go into labor some time this weekend and that baby will be here by 4th of July. I'm secretly hoping baby comes this weekend, only because I am SO over being pregnant.
Tomorrow is my last day at work and then I go on leave until end of October. YAY! Trying to clean up last minute items and hand everything off today. I am my boss' go-to for everything in our department. I know he is freaking out a bit. I feel for him because my replacement is not so efficient and does not want to help...
Any appointments this week? Had my 36 week appointment. Besides what was mentioned above, I had the GBS test done. will get an email with results. I have 2 appointments next week; therapy and my 37 week appointment.
GTKY: What’s the
worst or best advice you have gotten for baby?
Probably the best advice was to expect and embrace the overwhelming emotions that are going to come flooding in 2-3 weeks pp. A co-worker told me to talk about it the minute I start to feel it and get help because it is not talked about enough and it happens to every mother at some point. It felt good to hear this.
Worst advice: It's the "you don't need pain meds to have a baby". The advice about how a woman's body is meant to go through the pain and to just handle it. Of course this comes from a man...
How are you feeling? Tired, crampy, a little more irritable than usual I think.
Rants/raves/questions? Dr refuses to induce until I get to 42 weeks, which I guess is best but I really don't want to go past my due date. Baby is already measuring at 6 lbs 15 oz so I am terribly afraid of having a large baby vaginally...
Any appointments this week? Had my appointment on Wednesday. My next one is 7/5 but its with the nurse bc my dr is on vaca next week.
GTKY: What’s the worst or best advice you have gotten for baby? Haven't really gotten a whole lot of advice either way, people tell me I'll miss being pregnant, but Ive had horrible carpal tunnel since about 16 weeks and I really don't think Ill miss pregnancy... aside from that the biggest annoyance is everyone telling me I need to stay home and not go back to work....like are YOU going to pay my bills while I stay home? Or my favorite, they want to stay home with my baby so I can go to work....nope not doing that either.
@stephfaye that's not a very big baby so far. Mine was 6lbs 2 oz at 38 weeks and I keep being told this is a small baby, I wouldn't be overly concerned! I wish I could go past 41 weeks to be honest, my doctor will induce at 41.
I’m glad this thread is back! I can’t relate to STMs who have been having contractions for weeks I’m currently 38 weeks and just have increased cramping, but nothing I’d describe as a contraction. No cervix checks here yet but may have one next week and talk to my Dr about anything I can do to get things moving. Is anyone planning to try any specific induction techniques? The most effective I’ve heard of are pumping, acupuncture, and orgasms. I likely wouldn’t agree to a medical induction until at least 42 weeks but dont want to wait that long either.
@ckmb_knottie are they letting you go past 42 weeks? My doctor has agreed to 41+2 and birth centers in California will induce the day before you're 42 weeks apparently. I am not planning on pumping per see but nipple stimulation is definitely on the list. I'm going to up my walking, squatting, drinking the red raspberry leaf tea, and just letting my body hopefully do its thing! No contractions here either.
@ckmb_knottie I guess this is along the same lines as pumping, but nipple stimulation is supposedly really effective. I plan on trying to get things started myself around my due date (maybe a few days before) if I haven't felt anything yet... My mom is coming to stay with us a week before our due date and I don't think I'll be able to handle going too late...lol.
@kissableviv I don’t know of any hard cutoff dates here, but I’ve always been told that FTMs average 41.5 weeks, so it seems like a hard cutoff at 42 weeks doesn’t give much wiggle room! Do most states have a cutoff like that? I’d also argue that my due date is 2 days early since I ovulated on day 16. Anyway, hopefully I won’t get that far, but unless there are medical concerns I plan to try to hold out. Same here with the red raspberry tea and eating lots of dates!
@ckmb_knottie I've been given a hard cutoff date at 41 weeks because I'm AMA.
Also because I'm AMA and 39 +1 right now I was told this morning I could ask for an induction at any time since other than the occasional crotch shot from baby, I'm not feeling even the slightest bit of early labor at this point. I'm uncomfortable, but nearly as uncomfortable as some of the other ladies here seem to be. I have an appointment on Tuesday and I know they will start the hard sell on at least the membrane sweep at that time, but I'm only planning on doing this once, so I'd like to at least make it to my due date on Thursday and then just see what happens.
@noideawhatshesdoing I am sure my OB will start selling the induction soon. He also keeps mentioning the epi even though I don't want one. kind of annoying but he is a doctor...I might be ok with a sweep but definitely not inducing until 41 weeks and if that happens I'll be a bit bummed!
Also found out from my mom who just got here that I came on my due date and that she had to have her waters broken, however she was only in the hospital for 3 hours, and in labor (at least noticeable labor) for an additional 4! 0___0 holy crap, we will see if genetics plays a part.
@noideawhatshesdoing ultimately I think I’d be OK with a membrane sweep if it came to that. I believe there are 1 or 2 other options that don’t involve drugs that Drs could offer as well. But you’ve still got two weeks to try some other ideas also!
How far along are you/how big is baby? 36 weeks, papaya
How are you feeling?
Just hard to get comfortable, and very tired. To the point of letting my husband go into Costco alone while I stay in the car with my feet up and browse TB! Hoping to try acupuncture this week or next to help with the foot swelling that nothing else has been able to help.
Rants/raves/questions? Well this app has been frustrating me a bit recently, but my primary rant is with horrible human beings at work who feel they are entitled to the maternity parking spots at my office. It takes 10 minutes at a non-pregnant pace to walk from the main parking garage to my desk, and my company offers “stork parking” for women in their third trimesters that’s a bit closer. So despite having swollen feet and a backache since my 4th month, I waited until I got my doctor’s note at 28 weeks to get my parking pass. However, other people don’t seem to give a damn and have been parking there, clearly not pregnant. The security people occasionally put little warnings that do nothing, and then 2 days in a row this week, I came back from lunch and there were no spots available, forcing me to park on the top deck of the garage. I know this is totally a first world problem, but what type of person takes a pregnant lady’s parking spot? And then gets a warning and proceeds to do it again the next day??
Any appointments this week?
Had my now-weekly appointment on Friday, Baby seems to be measuring as expected. When she did my cervix check she could tell baby was really low, but I don’t think I was effaced or dilated much. Last week it was a half cm.
GTKY: What’s the worst or best advice you have gotten for baby?
good advice: battery operated candles and aromatherapy for the hospital. Instead of the all or nothing fluorescent lighting, the candles helped my coworker feel a little calmer during both labor and after delivery with baby in the room. I got an aromatherapy thing for my birthday in Nov and promptly stopped using it after reading that it wasn’t great during pregnancy. So I’m excited to break it back out to help relieve the stress of the delivery room!
For a couple of hours this morning and a couple of hours this afternoon I’ve had this kind of sharp cramp mostly on the ride side of my belly - kind of like a side stitch from running but it expanded out a little bit and stretching didn’t help it. I don’t know if it’s some kind of contraction or if maybe I just strained a muscle I wouldnt expect a contraction to be mostly on one side. Anyone had anything like that?
I’m feeling pretty good! Despite the soreness in my pelvis/hips and nice consistent sleep getting harder to come by, I don’t feel super uncomfortable. Makes me think that babe isn’t planning on joining us anytime soon. But I am definitely ready to get this show on the road!
Rants/raves/questions?
Nope not right now.
Any appointments this week?
I just had one this past Thursday. Not dilated or effaced at all but baby is in a great position. Next appointment is this upcoming Friday so fingers crossed there is some progress!
GTKY: What’s the worst or best advice you have gotten for baby?
Like a lot of you ladies I haven’t really gotten much in the way of advice, which I am happy about.
@ckmb_knottie I have had an extremely similar stitch in my side today! I thought it was weird but chose to ignore it until it went away ha ha ha
@ckmb_knottie I get those as well, though not entirely sure what they are. I’m told you’d feel the contractions across the whole belly, making it feel rock hard, but maybe the STMs can help more with that diagnosis!
I realized I didn't fully posted, just responded! Baby is eating my brain cells these days so sorry for not following the format.
I'm 39 weeks today and overall I'm feeling well. I do get tired pretty easily though and all I want to is lounging. No aches and pains and still sleeping ok! This belly is getting a bit old though and I'm excited to have parts of my body back and at least some range of movement.
My mom is here and helping a lot with cooking and dishes but it's also hard because I don't want to cook as much as she does and I'm already running out of dinner ideas, she is the type who wants to have a sit down dinner every day. I'm really grateful for all the help though!
Not in a hurry to get baby out but definitely not wanting an induction. I have 2 more weeks before rhat happens. Hoping this week brings along some labor symptoms because I have had zero and my cervix was also closed at my last appointment. Next appointment is on Monday for nst and fluid check.
I think the best advice I got was all the suggestions from this board! I've really enjoyed sharing this pregnancy here! I haven't gotten a lot of stupid advice thankfully.
@zombiehoohaa i haven't had a chance to write up my birth story yet, but if you want the pain meds, get the f*cking pain meds. Bringing a new human into the world is hero enough. And I'm pretty sure my anesthesiologist was an angel sent directly from heaven.

DITTO. I went without the pain meds and it fuck**** hurt as hell. TBH it made me question whether I would do it again the same way with a second one. Maybe because he was facing sideways/back to back and my back was just splitting in half. I have started my birth story several times too but every time is at night and I just fall asleep lol. I'll see if today is the day I finally post it!
