GTKY- Summer Vacation/Plans

This is my first time starting any kind of thread like this so please be easy on me. I’m just curious because I love to travel, and I love summer! We also have a vacation coming up and I was not expecting to be pregnant during it! Here are some questions to get us started

1. Have/Are you taken/taking a vacation this summer?

My DH and I went on a cruise to kick the summer off late May/early June! We left our son at home (14 months). I actually started my period on the day we got to Florida! I couldn’t believe it! It was still a fun time but I greatly missed DS. We are married 5 years this summer so it was a big celebration for us. We also went with another couple and we had a great time with them as well.

We are leaving July 16 for Walt Disney World! It will be myself, DH, and DS going. We would never be able to make this happen but I have a friend that works for Disney and hooked us up with some great deals! I’m so excited DS loves Mickey and it’ll be DH first trip (my second).

2. Were you pregnant/are you going to be pregnant during it?

Well I was on my period on the cruise and we were planning to start trying during that trip. I will be 6 weeks when we leave for Disney and turn 7 weeks while on the trip. I Really  hope I’m not nauseated during the trip! Either way I know we will have a great time.

3. Any other fun summer plans or things you are getting into this summer?

I’m a teacher so I’m off witnh my DS this summer which is tons of fun! We have been enjoying our local pool and spending time with family. My LO loves the water and just “dives” right in so he keeps me so busy! I’m trying to enjoy every second as I know next summer will be so different!

Re: GTKY- Summer Vacation/Plans

  • We’re not going far, but planning to take our daughter to the Bronx zoo with friends at the end of the month! I know what you mean about missing your baby, though. My husband and I went to Hawaii in early May and by the end of the week I was dying to hold my daughter again!

  • We’re  heading to Virginia Beach in August. We rented a beach house with 4 other families so it should be fun. It’s all our best friends and all our kids (an age group of babies, a group of toddlers, and then a group of older kids). We always do friends vacations but this will be my first one pregnant. I was not planning on being pregnant and it was going to be the first time no one was pregnant in 4 years. But it is what it is and I’m still excited (and now I have an excuse to go to bed at a decent time)!
  • We just got back from a beach week with my whole side of the family. We rented a big house and it was awesome! We are already planning for next year!
  • Happy to see others starting threads!! Thanks for this!

We we decided to not take a summer trip this year. We’ve been putting a lot of work and money into our yard. My class reunion was supposed to be this summer but there has been tons of drama (very small town I’m from) and it looks like it will be a no go. We also went on a few camping trips in June but it’s getting too hot now.

I have enjoyed taking DD to all the fun things for tots in our community that I didn’t really know excited. Most of the are free too which is awesome. Lots of museum days, library story hours, swimming days, farmers markets along with fun at home such as tea parties and baking.
  • @mamaoftwomonkeys missing him was so hard! My anxiety was through the roof anytime we were going to talk to him. Which I thought talking to him would help. The zoo sounds fun!

@christac1010 and @char245 I love big friend/family beach trips like that! We got to do that last summer with my in laws.

@JLaVO888 I am loving having my little buddy around to do all the family community things! We also live in a small town so I totally get small town drama! After these 2 trips we aren’t going to be spending any money except on a car for all of us and a House next summer! This is our last summer for family vacations for awhile which is partly why we went so “big” this summer.
  • I'm in Oregon and we are planning a road trip to Crater Lake with my besties from college in August !! I'm excited to be able to tell them we are expecting in person but a little nervous about road tripping with nausea/morning sickness! And also we had big hiking plans so I hope the fatigue passes by then!

Also, DH's job has been talking about sending him to Wales this summer and originally I wanted to tag along but now I can't :/ hoping they will just decide not to send him!!

@ashley14598 No one can truly understand small town drama unless they have lived it. I’m so glad I don’t live in my home town. The place we live now is the perfect size. I love having things to do with DD that were not an option for me growing up but it still only takes me 5 minutes to get to work.
  • @abbykwail oh goodness! Hopefully they won’t send him now! Your trip with college girlfriends sounds fun! I’m worried about the nausea/fatigue on our upcoming trip as well! I’m okay for the most part right now so I’m hoping it just stays away at least until we are back!

@JLaVO888 ha oh small towns! We currently live in ours DH drives 20ish minutes to work and I drive 45! We are planning to move to the city I work in next summer which will help a lot esp with finding more community events.
  • @ashley14598 The one I grew up in had only 6,000 people and was no where near any city. We were the largest town in the area lol. I could never live there again.
  • @JLaVO888 lol!!!! I couldn’t tell you how many people live here but I graduated with about 100 people, now the other schools in the county graduate more like 30-40 per class lol! So luckily we were in the “more populated” area of the county! I only agreed to living here because of family still being here and I knew it was only a 2 year plan
  • @ashley14598 My graduating class had 48.  :s:s:s

We went tent camping with our kids last month and that was a lot of fun! At the end of this month, we are using an extended family member's beach house in the New England area. We are flying which is a first for our kids, that should be interesting. We would have loved to invite friends but that didn't work out. Inviting family was kind of a no go because of drama, oh well. We'll have fun doing things on our own!
  • @Lbloom I know a girl that went camping at 36 weeks!!! I can't imagine, but maybe it was some get me out in mother nature instinct? She did have her baby at a hospital, though!
  • We took our girls to a family reunion in Door County, Wisconsin last week; had a ton of fun but it was exhausting!  The H and I are going to Spain and Portugal in a couple of weeks and my mom is coming to watch the girls; I can't wait!
  • This topic interests me because I have a vacation already planned for the end of August, and although I'm always trying, I didn't actually expect to get pregnant!  I'm planning to go to Glacier National Park, driving there from the CA Bay Area.  My friends are flying here from St. Louis, and we're all driving together.  Their flights are booked, the car is rented, the tee-pee is reserved, etc.  I haven't told them I'm pregnant because it's too early and I want to wait until testing and everything.  I'm not sure yet if this will change my plans.  I'll be reading what others say on here for advice.
  • My DH and I are both teachers, and we just bought a new house, so most of our summer plans involve recreating an episode of Fixer Upper

Next week I'm flying to FL with my mom for a short girls trip.  I'm glad I told her, so that we can go maternity shopping far away from my home turf!

In August I have a family reunion and I may end up revealing the pregnancy to anyone still in the dark.  So excited to be able to relax and rest during this first trimester. Once school starts up it's going to be crazy busy!
  • Most of our vacations have come and gone for the summer. We went to Orange Beach in mid May with our kids, my MIL, SIL, and niece & nephew. This is our third year going and its always a blast!

We did a trip to Grand Lake in OK in early June for a family reunion on my husbands side of the family. We do it every other year. His uncle has a huge lake house so we all gather and enjoy a little lake time. I'd like to say it was fun but I was fighting an 8 day migraine and of course my husband and daughter ended up with a stomach bug on the way home. Good times. :|

Then just 3 weeks ago we did a trip, just my husband and I, to Broken Bow. We rented an adorable cabin and with no kids around and no stress we apparently conceived a baby!

We have a stay-cation planned for the very end of the month. My MIL will keep the kids for two nights while we enjoy a little alone time! This will be first for us so we're excited to be able to really make it a fun weekend, at home! We've got plans to mostly sit around and eat and watch movies! Maybe some fun date nights. Or not. Just looking forward to having the freedom to do what we want for two whole days! :D

  • @Laurakat81: We decided this was the year.  We've been planning it for months.  We found out that it might be melted by 2020, so now's the time to go.  I just hope everything goes well and that I can go and hike and have a normal camping trip and not be plagued by pregnancy symptoms.  So far, I'm okay, but I assume it'll get worse.  I hope I'll still be pregnant by then and everything is going well.  We are staying here: https://www.homeranchbottoms.com/  in a tee-pee.  It includes showers and they have food and drink, too.
  • Not to be a bummer but my grandfather has end stage pancreatic cancer so we’ll be traveling to see him quite a bit this summer.

  • @mschanandlerbong1214 I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you get to spend a lot of quality time with him!
  • 1. Have/Are you taken/taking a vacation this summer?

DH and I went to Punta Cana af the beginning of June. It was the longest we have been away from DD, but it was nice to relax, recharge, and reconnect.

We also jusf took a series of road trips this past week with DD and my MIL. The first stop was Cleveland, OH for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Then, we ventured to Niagara Falls for a few days, and finally, we went to Northeast Indiana to spend the Fourth and a few extra days at my SILs.

I’m planning a short trip to Florida lager this month with my bestie to visit my mom.

    2. Were you pregnant/are you going to be pregnant during it?

I got my BFP while we were in Cleveland. It made for an interesting week not being alone with DH!

    3. Any other fun summer plans or things you are getting into this summer?

I’m also a teacher, so I’ve been enjoying activities with DD like Kindermusik class and using our season passes to a local amusement/water park.
  • @mschanandlerbong1214 I’m so sorry about your Grandpa.

  • I will be heading to Disney World 7/25-7/31. I am a travel agent so it is a work hard, play hard kind of trip. Pretty sure I am going to melt with the heat and humidity, which will be worse due to pregnancy. When I go I will be 8-9 weeks and I am praying my morning sickness is not as bad as it usually is.

The first weeked of summer we took the kids to Great Wolf Lodge, I was not pregnant for that one.

We have a couple smaller trips planned this summer, weekends away within driving distance. My 5 year old DD has been going through a lot of health issues so most of this summer has been spent running her to doctors appointments.

  • @ashley14598

That is awesome! When are you leaving and where are you staying? Last time I did WDW while pregnant I completely underestimated how tired I would be...and that was not my first pregnancy.

  • @Allycat11 We leave July 16-20 and are staying at Art of Animation. It will be myself, DH, and our son (15 months). We wouldn’t be going except my friend is a cast member and got us a good deal and some tickets. We are doing a 1/2 day at Hollywood Studios (DH has to meet Chewbacca) and 1/2 day at Magic Kingdom and another full day at magic kindgom. We are eating at Chef Mickeys on one of our non-park days. We are also going to our friends house for the 20-22 they live 5 minutes from the beach in Daytona. I went 2 years ago with my mom and when I got back I tested positive so I was around 4 weeks pregnant last time I was there and never knew it! I’ll be 6 weeks this time I’m hoping I’m just really hungry at that point ha!
  • I was just camping all week with family. So obviously I was pregnant! We are going camping again in 3 weeks. Other than that nothing until September when my husband and I go to Orlando for a week for his work conference and my vacation from DD.
