How is your pregnancy going so far? So far, so good!
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? Finding the right provider. The hospital I am looking at right now says they are VBAC friendly, but the VBAC community in my area says that is not the case unless you are the 100% perfect candidate for a VBAC. I love the OB that I am seeing, but he is no longer delivering babies and there are about 15 dr's on call, so I have no idea who I will have unless I schedule a c-section. My dr. says I'm a great candidate and the only barrier is if I have another very large baby or need to be induced. My provider does not do inductions for VBACs and after my last induction, I would rather not go through that again either.
Are you taking any classes or reading any books to help you prepare? Not yet. I'm hoping to find a VBAC class available in my area. No luck so far.
Sidenote* I did see a C-section/surgical delivery thread going on some other groups and wasn't sure if some of us would be interested in a thread like that if it turns out that we will need another c/s. Just a thought.
How is your pregnancy going so far? Really well! So much better than my last pregnancy it’s such a breathe of fresh air (knock on wood). No real complaints besides weight gain faster than I was hoping but I guess that’s just what my body likes to do
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? Baby was breech at the A/S, which normally wouldn’t be a concern except DD was breech the entire pregnancy and never flipped, not sure if it’s a fluke or if he’s following suit. Also is measuring in the 75th percentile and my OB doesn’t want me to try to deliver anything over 7lbs as my pelvis is very narrow. Will get some growth ultrasounds closer to due date to see how that’s going. My doctor is very supportive of a VBAC if all the right factors are in play, but also tries to be realistic with me which I appreciate. Time will tell I guess.
Are you taking any classes or reading any books to help you prepare? Nope. Trying not to get my hopes up too much and I feel like if I start really preparing I’ll be more disappointed. Not the best logic I admit
How is your pregnancy going so far? No complaints besides the lovely leg rash I’ve developed recently. Need to make a dermatologist appointment ASAP bc I waited entirely too long last time!
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? Found out at the A/S that my placenta is covering my cervix a bit so if it doesn’t move up then we will have to schedule a c-section. Also, I had no clue that the placenta growing into your previous c-section scar was even a thing and apparently from what I’ve read it is super serious so let’s hope that doesn’t happen! I go back for a special scan in seven weeks to see if my placenta is cooperating.
@koala1107- I have my AS scan tomorrow and I know they are going to be watching me for a large baby because my son was very large. They also note that I have a small pelvis. I know what you mean about getting your hopes up. No matter what happens, I hope you have a healthy, empowered birth experience!
@estellegetty- I had never heard of the placenta growing into your c-section scar until recently and it sounds scary. I hope that your placenta cooperates and all goes well at your next scan!
How is your pregnancy going so far? This pregnancy has just been the worst! But i can't complain because everything is good with baby, i am just old and grouchy and miserable.
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? Everything is lining up perfectly, which makes me think it will all blow up at the last minute. Placenta is in the right place, baby is head down and 50th percentile. But last baby was all those things too.....Sorry for being a debbie downer.
Are you taking any classes or reading any books to help you prepare? I am not....I am sure i will start reading some ina gaskin success stories as the time gets closer, but i think everything is still fresh enough in my brain from the last child. I did finally hire a doula, and am setting up some emergency child care options as well as i have a history of precipitous labor, so trying to be ready for anything at this point!.
@koala1107 - i am in the same boat with weight gain! i am eating less than i ever have and yet it piles on. Second baby woes...
@estellegetty - fx that everything moves in the right direction in the next few weeks. I feel like that's pretty common?
@arome2311 - i am having giant baby nightmares. My first was not giant, neither me or my husband were giant babies (or are giants now), and no one in my family has a history of large babies, yet still i am convinced this kid will balloon into a 12lb monster.
@jengibre_zorro- haha giant babies aren't all bad. My son was such an easy baby and he was really sturdy, which made having a newborn baby less intimidating lol. I really liked the Ina Gaskin stories last time I was pregnant! I'm glad you hired a doula. That seems to be sooooo helpful in having a successful vbac!
I know this is July but I'm newish and didn't want to start a new thread. Hi!
How is your pregnancy going so far? This pregnancy was worse in the beginning a lot of MS which I didn't have with my last. Last time I was on blood pressure medication and this time I seem to be holding my own.
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? I'm still very much on the fence about the vbac. Last time I went through 30 hours of labor for her only to not descend, but since I was able to get to 9cm and baby handled the labor fine they think I will be on okay candidate. I on the other hand am having a hard time wrapping my head around not doing a section. My section was a walk in the park as far as recovery. I know not everyone's is but mine happened to be. They also because of my history of high blood pressure wont let me go past my due date which is disappointing since I wasn't dilated at all last time and needed to be induced. This time again if nothing happens by 39wks they will induce me for a vbac on October 17th. I feel without the baby coming naturally they are just setting me up for failure again.
Are you taking any classes or reading any books to help you prepare? I haven't really read anything I have looked into getting a doula because if I'm doing a vbac I'm not doing it alone. (Yes my husband will be there but he's pretty useless although I love him)

@bntfroggie I feel you! 30 hours of labor for me that resulted in a c-section. My recovery was also very easy and I know I was lucky. My concern this time is the restrictions aren’t realistic now that I have a two year old running around.
I think a doula is a fantastic idea! I’ve heard nothing but good things.
@bntfroggie 30 hours of labor sounds pretty tough! How would they induce you for a vbac? I am petrified of pitocin I’ve heard horror stories but I know there are other options i’m Curious if they talked to you about that yet!
How is your pregnancy going so far? good! Similar to my other pregnancies!
Any concerns/barriers you are currently experiencing about not being able to have a VBAC? From my last appt the midwife sees no reason to schedule a section because my first two were vaginal with no issues- my third was a prolapsed cord so truly no other way for the little bub to get out! I was out under general and it was a really terrible recovery- but I am still nervous to try vbac- I talk to my doctor more in-depth on Wednesday for 28 weeks appt so I am praying he says same thing as nurse has been saying Are you taking any classes or reading any books to help you prepare? nothing i did a quick re-read of Ina May and the vbac section that I never actually read the first time so that seems optimistic! I think it is just me over thinking if my doctor is happy to let me attempt a vbac then I think I am too!
@kellitama920 I don't think many places do it, but the biggest difference is they can't used drugs to dilate you so they would use a balloon catheter. Then it would go how it went before. So they would use pitocin but I think there is a limit to how long they would want you on that for. My body did okay with it. I will ask at my next appt what the gameplan is and report back
