This thread is specifically for advice for First Time Moms (FTMs). Pearls of Wisdom, baby shower tips, nesting stories, what you did or didn’t do that was fantastic that you want to share with other Moms (especially FTMs).
I'm a FTM but have done many freezer stocking preps before. I just researched a list that was "non-cook" prep so you can stock up on lots of crock pot meals and casserole type dishes that are cooked the day you pull it out. I find that makes for the best tasting freezer meals so the food is more freshly cooked in a sense Here is the list I'm going with. https://newleafwellness.biz/2016/01/31/40-pre-baby-freezer-meals/
Make sure you don't make them too far in advance as most things only freeze well for 3-4 months. I'm aiming to prep over two weekends in September
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
I made 6 huge freezer meals about a month before DS was born, and I’m hoping to do the same again this time, much to the chagrin of DH who hates leftovers, but I don’t see him cooking anytime soon, so he’ll have to live with it, haha.
As odd as it sounds someone suggested grabbing adult diapers for the first week home. I did that at night and honestly it was great I just tossed them at night I didn't bleed through pads or underwear. There were a couple times I didn't make it to the bathroom due to either BF or just thinking I had more time and I just peed my diaper. I know it sounds gross but nobody said childbirth was glamorous.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling super motivated to get stuff done but don't want to waste time and money by doing it too far ahead. DH is going to be out of town the first weekend in August and I'm hoping to get my nesting on. That would be 2 months before EDD. I said I was going to do freezer meals when I was pregnant with DD and that never happened.
Last time I did like 6 freezer meals the day before DS was born. Yup I’m that kind of procrastinator. We don’t have a lot of space, but they were great to have. I will definitely do more this time because now we have to feed a toddler too.
I plan to do some freezer meals (definitely gumbo) but also, making mental notes on which restaurants door dash/grub hub/etc. deliver from... because...I'm only human.
Ask for extra mesh underwear before you leave the hospital, or order some from Amazon before your due date. I lived in mesh undies for like 4 weeks after DD lol. And get the giant pads at the store. Not just overnight ones, but the ones that are HUGE. Trust me, you’ll need them. Also take the peri bottle from the hospital!! That thing was a lifesaver. And the Dermaplast spray. That stuff is amazing.
Oh, and don’t be a hero and try to skimp on Colace. Take as much of that shit as you can...you’ll appreciate it with your first couple of bowel movements. Also, you won’t pop a stitch when you go to the bathroom. It might feel like you will, but you won’t.
Yes for extra mesh panties!!! I did that with both kids and it helped out so much! I only wore them for the first week or so though. After that, overnight pads worked fine for me. Everyone is different though so it doesn’t hurt to be prepared either way!
I listened to all the advice and bought monster pads. After I went through my stash from the hospital (which I liked better), the ones I’d bought were seriously overkill. Had to go buy something lighter. So be prepared for whatever your recovery might look like.
Oh, and don’t be a hero and try to skimp on Colace. Take as much of that shit as you can...
Everything I've read from everyone says the exact same thing...which begs the question....who ISN'T popping stool softeners like candy??? I feel like since everyone mentions it, they must know some crazies out there who aren't, or somehow it's "embarrassing" or something like that? (I will be taking ALL the colace.)

My little sister had her baby in December and refused to take more than 1 a day, even though her OB told her to take 4 a day. Her reasoning was “I just don’t want to end up having diarrhea.” I was like trust me, you won’t. And when you feel like you’re delivering your almost-10 pound daughter all over again, you’ll wish you’d listened to your doctor and every other mom that has told you to take as much as you possibly can.
Milk of magnesia worked for me too, @chopchop25 - however, my doctor didn't sound completely thrilled that I had taken it without consulting her first. Then again, she didn't tell me not to.
Thanks @tlmill, I will pick some up this weekend! I'm actually surprised it's back...I'd been doing so well the last few weeks. Seriously, frosted mini wheats were magic for staying regular for awhile.
miralax never worked for me...it wasn't strong enough. Milk of Magnesia is awesome, and my OB has given me the OK to take it. Basically, take it, and stop once you have a BM.
OMG. Yall. I've been taking Magnesium for migraines (doc said it would help tremendously)! But they failed to tell me magnesium was a stool softener so I've still been taking colace!!!!!!!! I finally stopped- but no wonder I got diarrhea!!!
and I agree with the extra mesh panties, the dermoplast, and I asked to take home some tucks (thanks to pushing for 2 1/2 hours I ended up with some bad hemorrhoids the first go round- they gave me a HUGE container of them). and all the colace. I take it on and off now when I'm constipated but I started taking it in the hospital after birth.
