Stabby Saturday (6/30)

There is a certain irony to me in that a couple months ago, several people were complaining about the late winter, and now people are riffing on the heat of summer.  (With good reason on both sides, it just amuses me...)

Anyway, here is a snowman for those of us looking to cool off:

Stabby because today is day one of potty training DD.  We're already on undie pair #3.  Also its supposed to be in the high 90's all weekend.  I hate the heat.
  • @kfrob - Fingers crossed for you!

Good luck with the potty training!
I'm stabby because my house is a complete mess / disaster because of our roommate moving out his stuff but he didn't take everything yet and I can't clean up until he does. Nor can I move ODD into her room.

  • App has been a jerk since yesterday and the mobile web site didn't want to work at first.

Heat. Yes I am one that will always complain when it is warm, I love cooler weather.

We have air conditioning but it is still freaking hot out. I want to just relax and enjoy a pool and DH wants us to clean the house. My relaxing and him cleaning isn't fair in my mind so that won't happen.
  • Stabby because I can’t nap like a normal person. Well, I can nap, but waking up sucks. It used to feel like something was wrong with my heart and it woke me up, afraid to go back to sleep, but since it only happened when I napped and not at night, I thought it must be a dream or something. Then it turned into me waking up gasping for air as though I stopped breathing, again, only at the end of a nap.  I stopped napping because of that, but was exhausted today - for some reason I woke up at 6:30 after only sleeping 6.5 hours. By 10:30 I knew I would need a nap.  Today’s nap left me again gasping for air, this time because the fish tank in my dream started spraying electrified water on me and it was electrocuting me and nobody was helping. So now I’m stabby because waking up mid dream has left me more tired than I was before the nap and gasping for air is a shitty way to wake up. This better be a pregnancy thing because if I can’t nap after this kid is born I’m going to be pissed. (All the problems started about when I hit second tri.)

  • @purplegoldfish2 - Have you mentioned this to your doctor?  I’m pretty sure that pregnancy related sleep apnea is a thing, and it can screw with your blood pressure, metabolism, etc.
  • @knottieamusements I haven’t, but can mention it at my appointment this week, thanks!

Would it only affect naps? I have no problems sleeping at night anymore.

  • I decide to drive to visit my family with my 3 year old -solo - and holiday traffic turned it from a 2.25 hour trip to 3.5. I’m so tired. I just dumped my kid on my mom and am gonna go nap. She was great in the car, so thank god. But wasted so much of this day in a car!
  • @purplegoldfish2 I have a similar problem with naps only instead of gasping for air I wake up with heart palpitations. This happened before getting pregnant and I had a sleep study done. No definite sleep apnea but apparently I am high risk for it. Definitely talk to your doctor bc like @knottieamusements said it could be pregnacy related sleep apnea. I have no problems waking up from regular sleep, only naps and it's just so bizarre. Good luck!

Stabby at the app  it glad it's working better now.. the heat is killing me and making me nauseous so I'm glad to be back inside from DHs works family day.
  • We had a 3 yr old birthday an hour away and it was in the 90s today (weatherwise). Well we live 10 min from the beach... it took twice as long to get home because of traffic. Ugh stupid me for RSVPing yes.

  • @mamabearcj Guilty! Bumping as I try and poop right now. I swear, I'm lucky if I am able to poop once a week.

I find I go two or three days without pooing then the day I go I poo like 4 times. It's stored all up in there!

  • Dude, don’t come home and say you want to do something this eve then promptly fall asleep on the couch. It’s 6:45 and I’m hungry.
  • @purplegoldfish2 - What @jellybelly114 said.

I also think your sleeping position makes a difference, and some people don’t realize how often their sleep is being disturbed during the night.

(Remember- I only play a doctor on TV, no clue what I’m talking about.)
  • @jellybelly114 @knottieamusrments According to Dr Google, I have zero symptoms of sleep apnea, except the gasping for air during naps (& sometimes grinding my teeth, but that one is stress related and has been reduced considerably since I quit my job). My husband, who actually probably has a better chance of having it than me based on the symptoms I saw, wakes a few times a night and said I am always fine and he doesn’t think I have it.  Wondering if maybe it’s because I nap on the couch and sleep in bed so it forces me into a different position?  Definitely still talking to the dr about it, especially after jellybelly114’s experience. @jellybelly114 if it only happens during naps, did they have you come in for a nap sleep study? Curious how that works.

  • @purplegoldfish2 no but I was also seeing a cardiologist to make sure it was nothing heart related so it didn't get chased down too much. I was going through a lot of testing at the time for other things and at one point I was just done bc everything kept coming back normal which was tiring. They did find that I have low blood pressure which was causing some other symptoms like light headedness and brain fog, not sure if that played into the palpitations. When I discussed the heart palpies with my cardiologist he couldn't give me a good answer on the nap episodes since all of the cardio tests looked good. I do dream a ton so his theory was that it was dream related (idk if I buy that but def possible). There was a good chunk of time after that though where I was fine but I also changed my diet and started exercising regularly which put me on a good routine where I didn't need naps. I really only noticed it come back first tri when I was falling asleep randomly all the time and getting woken up by other things/people rather than waking on my own.
  • @jellybelly114 it might be dream related actually! In HS I developed a sleep anxiety disorder where I would hyperventilate in my sleep based on weird dreams I was having. Also not a doctor so could be totally different, but I was prescribed ambien and it stopped and never came back. I know that’s not an option right now.

I’m stabby because I was invited upstate to a friends house with a pool but H couldn’t come and I felt guilty leaving him again when I was gone the last 2 weekends. But it’s hot as hell here AND H has to finish work for a deadline so we haven’t even gotten to spend that much time together. I guess the silver lining is that my friends wife was due on Thurs and is still waiting so it probably would have been a bad idea to go up there, even though they were insistent I should come anyway.

Thanks for the info @jellybelly114.  I just ran into my nurse friend, so I asked her about it.  She said since it’s only naps while I’m on the couch and not happening in bed it’s probably pressure on my diaphragm due to position and baby. She said it’s nothing to be concerned about, just annoying.

  • I wonder if you nap in your bed if you'd have the same issues.
