found our yesterday that my ILs are going to be here in August!! That means they can watch the girls when I go into labor and I don’t have to call my mother when the baby is born. If I have my way, I only want visitors at home and not in the hospital.
Also, pretty bummed that it’s a required 24 hour stay for the baby for a hospital birth due to PKU testing
last...lightning crotch is no joke...baby is seriously giving me some fist bumps straight to the cervix making me double over...
It rained all this morning and is now 90 degrees with a 5,000% humidity. I feel like a prisoner to my air conditioning. We went without AC in this house the first three years we lived here (someone hacked the condenser off the house while it was in foreclosure on the prior owners and we didn't want to afford to fix it). Sometimes I hate we have it since the escape discourages me from going outside, but pregnant me dgaf!
My dad asked my permission to take a once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip to British Columbia for two weeks right in the zone of baby’s arrival. ...fishing is totally a family tradition, I am a-ok w him going. This is the 7th granbaby and 4th girl, he’ll get plenty of time w her one on one visiting after the fact, I’m not even bothered.
...and, if DH is game...that could mean my mom could stay w us and hopefully be here during to stay w dd, with a little training I think she could handle/we could trust her to do dd’s treatments right. Hurray! Stress free option!

My dad’s family is having a reunion in Jackson Hole for the first time in forever and it’s the day after my due date. I don’t know if he would go if I haven’t had the baby yet but I am totally fine with it if he does. My dad is an amazing grandpa and he will be there for baby all the time. The only part I’m actually upset about is that I can’t go myself.

I feel you with the heat. It’s not even our hottest yet and we’ve steadily been in the low-mid 90s. The next 2 weekends I get to stand in heat since I’m a coach for my daughters t-ball team.
@Patience7150 That’s exactly why we haven’t put anything for AC in our house. It’s a very small house, so it wouldn’t take more than a window AC to make me never want to leave.
@megnwingate I'm the same way... I don't want visitors in the hospital. I'd prefer them visit at home...... a month later or longer. Ha! I'm hoping I won't have to stay in the hospital for 24 hours.. just pull a Duchess Kate and leave the hospital within hours.
@megnwingate@smsaulino I really would like no hospital visitors, but am giving in for grandparents. But I’ve told them once we get home we need a couple weeks to settle before they visit. Our very closest friends are not coming to the hospital so they will drop in the first couple days at home, but will always bring food and/or help with chores. I’m considering a sip and see about 4 weeks after the baby is born so people can see the baby then. Only concern is it’s the beginning of flu season.
@klj0228 I would have people show proof of their flu shot. At least attempt to have your shots before asking to hold the baby. I understand that the flu shot isn't always effective. That's why I said attempt. DH is stricter than me when it comes to holding Polly. He has already let the family know.
We asked grandparents to get their tdap too, but didn't worry about the flu shot since DS was born in June. They should be all set with tdap this time since it was 2 years ago, and I'm not sure how concerned I am with the flu shot yet. This is only because it doesn't really ramp up in my area until at least November, so we'll see.
I mentioned tdap to family when we saw them yesterday, but I tried not to make a big deal about it. Like SIL wanted to know what that was? I dunno if they didn't make her get it, but I was surprised that she didn't seem to know about the mother getting the shot late enough in pregnancy to help to pass immunity onto the baby, and she just had her last I want to say, 7 years ago? Are these really such new recomendations? She knows allllll about GD tho, but didn't know about the rhogam shot, I guess bc she didn't need it.
Someone also asked me what hospital well be delivering at and they needed all the details and I definitely had a quiet little panic attack.
I told her that's a good point, we'll have to type up and email and let everyone know (and take the opportunity to set up some ground rules.) :#
Oh, and lots of belly touches lol. I guess it doesn't really bother me tho haha
I think the tdap is good for 10 years but if I am remembering correctly my OB suggested it for my family if they had it more than 5 years ago. Since ds is 1.5 everyone was covered for my nephew and this baby so I was the only one who had to get it again. Luckily my family all works in healthcare so no one complained and while MH isn’t a huge fan of getting vaccines himself (he is all for it for baby luckily), he convinced his family it was a must.
So the tetanus portion of the tdap is good for ten years, but I read some studies when DS was due that say the pertussis portion isn’t truly effective past 3ish years. I honestly don’t remember the specifics, but it was enough that I had all our immediate family who wanted to hold him get it even if they weren’t due for a ew years.
I'm back! Missed the boards. The app is just too big of a battery drain on my phone to use it while traveling.
The flu shot won't be readily available by the time our LO arrives so I'll probably just have to suck it up with that one. I'm kind of jealous of those with later September due dates who might be able to get the flu shot before labor. We're flying in January and I hate that LO won't have any kind of flu protection.
Is there a product spotlight that hasn't been done that y'all would like tomorrow? Also, I know it's a bit early, especially for those with later due dates, but is it almost time for a hospital bag thread? I know someone who went into labor a few weeks early and didn't have one packed. Luckily she has family in town who just went rummaging through her drawers for things but I'd rather not have to do that.
@SkilledSailor hope your trip was a blast and the wedding was perfect!! I think a hospital bag thread would be great. There are some ladies here who already know they are going to or will likely have to go early so it wouldn’t hurt to start talking about it.
Ok great! Glad I’m not the only early planner in this group
@southernlady07 It was good! Disney was fun and made us look forward to going again in 5ish years with our LO (preferably when I’m not pregnant because those margaritas looked good!). The wedding was a hot mess but glad I was there for one of my best friends.
@BusinessWife will the vaccine I wonder if it was called something different or given in a different combo.? And you are so nice to allow belly rubs and actually be okay with it!! Step-MIL ran up and rubbed my belly this weekend and I just gritted my teeth.
@SkilledSailor I hadn’t thought about flu shot! Though last time my DR said OB’s are in the first group to receive batches. Oye this worries me. I’d like baby to have something.
Re: the flu shot; I work in healthcare and it's mandatory that we either get the shot or wear a mask the entire time that flu is prevalent. We're often some of the first to be offered the shot (usually September), but I think it tends to be late September. I'm not sure if it will be available before this point or not at my OB's office. BUT, I did want to mention that if you're breastfeeding you're going to continue to pass immunity to your baby just by virtue of what you're exposed to and the antibodies/defense that your body mounts toward any disease/infection. So I don't think all hope is lost!
@SkilledSailor, my OB said that they might have the flu shot available by August and to be sure that I check with them then. If they don't have it by my last prenatal though, I'll just ask if they can administer it at my PP check-up.
Super tardy to the party but @SkilledSailor if you are still looking for product spotlight suggestions baby monitors comes to mind. I couldn’t find it in the search.

+1 to a hospital bag thread.
