Re: Weekly Randoms 6/25

  • @hollyeva thank you for the tips! we’re in the east panhandle, wedged between md and va, about 30ish minutes from winchester. do you remember the name of the italian place in radford? is it casual and does it by chance have pizza (dd loves pizza)? i think i recall there being an awesome botantical gardens in charlottesville; haven’t been, but i think i had seen that there’s one, and your post reminded me of it just now.
  • @offtoneverland No I’ve never been to Burlington.  I haven’t been to much of the northeast, so I’m very excited. I’m going with 3 other people and we were trying to find a destination where no has been (much harder to do then i thought) and Burlington Vermont was the winner!

@bfpafter4years yes Dopplers can be very stressful. I had once incident so far where I couldn’t find the heartbeat. Hubs and I took a break, watched a tv show, tried again, and found it right away. It was MUCH lower then where we were searching before. My personal rules with the Doppler is 1. Only use it once a week and when I don’t have an appointment. This way it doesn’t become an obsession and also minimizes the stressful moments of not finding the heartbeat right away. 2. Only use it when my husband is home. If it’s taking to long, I let him drive the Doppler bc I’m no good at it when I start to feel anxious. He’s also good at being the voice of reason. He’ll make us stop and try again later if we are having trouble finding it. He’s never worried about it, which calms me down. I’m glad you got some movement! That is definitely a positive.

  • @blue2mango You'll have to let us know what your son thinks of the book. I hope it helps him understand (at least a little) what's going on. I'm glad you were able to let yourself go yesterday and have a good cry. Sometimes that can be so cathartic.

@ginny_203 I sent you a PM about NYC restaurants. :)

  • Feeling really blah today... *TW for pretty much this whole post*

We have friends who had been TTC for a few years and told us all about their journey. They got their BFP and she is due right around the same time as me. DH found out at work yesterday that they spent Tuesday in a city hospital because the baby is measuring small and might not make it. I can't stop thinking about them and hoping their baby pulls through.

Then this morning on the way to work, the radio station that I listen to every morning was talking about how the host just had a baby. He and his wife who called in started talking about their previous loss at 9 months gestation. It was heartbreaking. I had to take a few minutes in the parking lot at work this morning to dry my eyes before walking in.

    *end TW*

I have to clean my office today for year end and the majority of that I fear is going to be extremely painful as my pelvic pain has been excruciating since yesterday afternoon. I am just praying these next few days go back quickly so I can talk to my OB Monday about this pain. Okay.. done whinging now!

  • @offtoneverland we still haven't found the source. But, I ordered 12 activated charcoal room deodorizers from Amazon yesterday and put them all around his room and bathroom last night. I don't know if they worked or if the smell just dissipated over night, but it is a million times better.

  • I didn’t see a questions thread started for this week so I hope it’s okay that I post this here. I posted yesterday that the tech found a echogenic intracardiac focus (soft marker for downs) during the anatomy scan yesterday. After her reassurance and doing some research, DH and I were not too concerned.

This afternoon, I got a call from the doctor who offered us a level 2 ultrasound with a perinatalologist or a repeat ultrasound in the OB office in 8-12 weeks. We can do either, or neither, but now I’m back to being a little worried. Not that it matters at all, but the perinatalologist doesn’t accept my insurance because he’s affiliated with a different hospital than the one I work at.

Does anyone have experience or words of advice in dealing with a similar situation? I’m leaning toward doing at least one or the other, just for peace of mind. If anything was wrong, it certainly wouldn’t change my mind about the pregnancy, I’m just a little nervous FTM :)
  • @tessiesmom26 - I really hope your friends baby pulls through. How scary.

@firsttimespartanmom - Is there another perinatologist in town that would take your insurance? If so I'd be more inclined to do an ultrasound with them (or even to check to see how much it would cost out of pocket with the one you're talking about). If I couldn't find one that took my insurance/or wanted to pay OOP for it I'd definitely follow up with the OB. Yes most of the time it's nothing, but peace of mind would be totally worth it to me.

  • @mockingjay1 there isn’t - the hospital I work at doesn’t have a perinatalogist, and my insurance only accepts providers within our network. I’m leaning toward a follow up ultrasound with our OB for reassurance and peace of mind.
  • @firsttimespartanmom are there any other specialists your doctor can recommend that you can check with your insurance? With DD, they found indication of echogenic bowel at my anatomy scan. It was a super traumatic experience for me because the tech told me all looked good, so I gave DH the ok to leave so he didn’t have to sit through my OB appt. My OB brought it up in my appt and gave me paperwork on it, told me not to google it and had me set up at appt with a level 2 doctor.

Of of course I immediately googled and scared myself pretty good. We had to wait two weeks to get in with the specialist, but everything ended up being in the all clear. Please feel free to PM if you want more details. I will be thinking of you and hope you can find a way to get peace of mind. In our case, we would have wanted to know so we could prepare ourselves for some of the special needs that comes with a downs diagnosis. I know every family is different, but I likely would have had to find a less intensive career, so it was important for us to know as much as early as possible.

  • @firsttimespartanmom I would also want to have as thorough of a check out as possible, so unless it was exorbitant I would still see the perinatologist. That way, when he gave the all clear I would feel really confident in it. But, that’s just me and my anxious brain. Do whatever will make feel less anxious going forward. If your doc isn’t concerned then that sounds like all is well!

  • @wannaflickone so I actually called my insurance this afternoon, and turns out the perinatalologist is a tier 2 provider. So in my plan, rather than covering 80-20 when I hit the deductible, which I’m almost at, it’d be 70-30. Talked with DH tonight and he doesn’t think any follow up is necessary, but will support me if I need it for peace of mind - which I think I do. My thought on going to the peri is that I would likely be able to get in earlier, whereas my OB said they wouldn’t do another ultrasound for 8-12 weeks and I just don’t know if I can wait that long.

Thank you ladies for the advice. I think we’re going to take the weekend to think it over, and make a decision next week.
  • I would definitely want the peace of mind too.  Fwiw, my OB was worried about a small increase in risk of heart defects based on the NT scan.  We're already booked for a fetal echo at 22 weeks to check his heart out to have peace of mind (best case) or have a better idea of what we're facing to make a plan for the future (worst case).  There's so much that I found to stress about with my first pregnancy despite everything being clear on tests that I don't want to add to it if at all possible.
  • @firsttimespartanmom I hope you and your husband can find comfort in your decision over the weekend. I agree with the other ladies in that I would personally want to know sooner than later. I'm a worrier so I would be thinking non stop until the baby was born if I didn't so the extra test. Having time to prepare as much as possible would be my top priority personally.
  • This day is off to a rough start. Ds was playing with H before he left work work and fell down. He somehow managed to his hit his eye. He has a scratch and I expect to see some bruising. Looks like we get to go to the beach with a black eye. Well, at least I get sweet cuddles.
  • We had pizza (for my husband, who loves it) and fettuccine alfredo (for me since I hate pizza) for dinner last night and the twins wouldn't touch the pizza (second time they've been offered and wanted nothing to do with it) but cleaned their plates of fettuccine.

DH is half-jokingly moping this morning because they're "not his children".

I guess they take after me.  I've never liked pizza.  Other kids' birthday parties were miserable for me since that's all that was ever served.

  • Well DH got offered the job he interviewed for. Part of me is so excited for him (and they offered 37.5% more than he is making now)... part of me is super sad. I think he'll want to accept it even if his current company would match it (which I'm sure they won't) because he's tired of what he's doing now and is really looking forward to what the new job would entail. I am so sad thinking about leaving my friends here (especially my best friend whom DS loves and her kids). I worry how DS will do. We have quite a few friends here he plays with and have an awesome routine down. I'm nervous about finding a new preschool, a new speech place, a new OB, a new pediatrician, etc. I am not good with change, and that was before we had such awesome friends.

  • @mockingjay1 congratulations to your husband and your family. All of that sounds very overwhelming, but what a huge impact a 37.5% increase can make! Although a huge change definitely seems daunting, our littles are so adaptable. This will likely be more difficult on you as an adult than your son. I know I would have those exact same feelings if we had to move. How quickly would everything have to happen? I'm sorry if I missed this in a previous post, but how far of a move is it? Is there anyway you could get looped in to mom's groups in the area beforehand?

I managed to sprain my thumb swatting flies.  I'm so talented.

It's probably because I have very loose joints (doctor thinks I have a connective tissue disorder of some sort), but still, this is a whole new level of embarrassing ways to hurt myself and I've hurt myself in a lot of ridiculous ways before.

  • Thanks @wannaflickone. I'm not sure how fast the timeline will be. Likely his current job will not make him do his 2 weeks notice because it's a competitor (although in a different state), so if people are changing companies your last day is usually the day you tell them. We'll need to ask a few questions to the new company before DH accepts. I don't even know like how insurance works when you switch companies and will they start paying him right away? I need to make a list. It's about an 8.5 hour drive. Hopefully I can find some mom groups, but unfortunately going through all our stuff and finding a house will probably take up a lot of my free time!

  • @mockingjay1 congrats to your dh and your family! i know it will be so overwhelming at first, but i’m sure you’ll tackle everything as it comes your way. sorry that you’ll be farther away from friends. as for insurance, when dh switched companies, his new company had a two month waiting period before insurance started taking effect. it was annoying and i was definitely worried about something catastrophic happening in the meanwhile, but i wanted to pass on the info that once you lose your insurance, you should be eligible for cobra insurance that can be applied retroactively should something serious arise before the new insurance starts. i don’t remember how long the window is, but it gave me some peace of mind while we were in limbo. if you are eligible, your dh’s old company can give him more information as part of his exit/debriefing packet. but, hopefully your dh’s new job implements insurance coverage right away and it’s a non-issue.
  • @highsteaks - ugh yeah, being pregnant and the questionable insurance freaks me out. I know cobra is expensive. I hope DH's job has like a 30 day period where they'll cover you, but I guess we'll see!

  • @mockingjay1 yea, cobra costs pretty much what you were already paying for insurance PLUS whatever share the company was paying as well, plus a small percentage for administrative fees. but on the bright side, you don’t have to pay for it unless you end up needing it (within a window of time). i hope your new ob and other docs will be amenable to working appointments around to accommodate the new insurance changes. if you have medical benefits that will expire once your old insurance does (for example, free contacts/eyeglasses in vision care off the top of my head), try to order that stuff asap!
  • Is anyone having problems with the Bump app? I usually don't have many problems with it, but last night and this morning, the app won't even load. :(

  • @offtoneverland north alabama for dh’s grandma’s 90th bday party nearly 700 miles away. breaking up the long car trip into 2 days each way. hoping for a little pool time and sightseeing on the way there and back. i have NEVER packed so much stuff in my life. thankfully, i feel like a pretty seasoned packer, so i’m not too overwhelmed. i think i’m going to be able to condense a week’s worth of stuff into a mostly organized lot. the return trip will likely be a way different story.
