So the saga doesn't end there. The car started shaking pretty bad so we decided not to risk it. We are staying the night with some of my friends about an hour north. Thank god for southern hospitality! I Google it and it said 3.5 hours to my sister's. So in reality probably 4.5 hours.
@gorgeousariel I'm so happy that you guys aren't risking it - it's too hot to travel if you might get stranded! When I was a teenager, my mom would take my sister and I to Carlsbad Caverns (because caves are cool - literally, it was a summer time treat to not sweat for a bit). Some years she would just rent a car because it was safer and more reliable than her own. Not sure if that's an option for you guys, but it made our weekend trips nicer when we didn't have to worry about the car

Thanks everyone! My friend's mechanic came by last night and was able to fix it free of charge. They are all so amazing! We are about a half hour away from my sister's. It will be so nice to get there. Hopefully our trip back will be nothing like our trip up.
