PSA: the Hook Effect

Gather round, fellow POASers.

Today, at 7 weeks pregnant, I decided to POAS for fun(?).

It was light!

So I remembered the good ole hook effect. When your hcg reaches a certain level, the test gets lighter. I added water to my sample and retested. DARK again.

Confusing, right. I’m done POAS for 9 months.

Dont fall for the hook effect.

I had the hook effect with both successful pregnancies. TBD with this one - I’m not far enough to have it. I’m out of tests as of today so i probably won’t test for it this time.

Thank you so much for telling me about this! I am amassing quite a collection of PG tests ;) I would have freaked if mine started to become lighter.

Thanks for letting us know! I had no idea this existed. I’m done POAS for this pregnancy because it’ll just drive me nuts, but I still have some wondfos and who knows if I’ll fall for the temptation a few weeks from now. Definitely good to know.

I've stopped testing, temping, and tracking resting heart rate. It gives me anxiety every time there's a dip. At this point, I prefer to be blissfully unaware until my US on 7/3.
