Re: Weekly Questions w/o 6/18

  • For those who have traveled, do you go through the regular airport security (even the tube that’s x-ray machine like), or do you choose to get the pat down. I have a trip next week, and not sure what to do. I know they say those machines are safe for pregnant women, but I can’t help feeling paranoid about it.
  • @BabyBoyH92016 I've heard from many people that the machines are fine to go through (and I've gone through them!). You can always request the pat down if you are uneasy though.

Question about the anatomy scan-- How full does your bladder need to be? I have to pee ALL the time and am worried about how painful a full bladder on a long ultrasound will be!
  • Loading the player...
  • @eahayes I didnt have a full bladder for my first one and the tech could see stuff just fine.
  • @eahayes I did not go to my AS with a full  bladder. About halfway through, the tech asked me to get up and use the bathroom because she could tell my bladder was full. So if it becomes an issue, or if it's uncomfortable for you, they'll have you use the bathroom probably. I was worried about it too before my appointment!

@BabyBoyH92016 A friend of mine used to work for TSA and she said they are perfectly safe. I've used the scanners in both pregnancies and haven't had any issues. But if you're nervous you can request a pat down instead, like PP said.

  • @BabyBoyH92016 The new machines are safe - I actually remember hearing that you get more radiation from the flight! I’m pretty sure in my last pregnancy though they usually just waved me through or sent me through an old metal detector every time. People are nice to pregnant women and people with infants.

  • @eahayes - I had mine today and I peed 20-30 minutes before my scan with no issues. They didn't tell me I couldn't pee or had to drink a certain amount of water before hand.

  • Anyone else have or had placenta previa? Went for AS scan today everything looked good but my placenta is very low and they think they see small lesion in it. Of course OB said not to worry and we are just going to monitor but kinda hard not to worry. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this or something similar?
  • @jkmartin723 Placenta previa is where the placenta partially or fully covers the cervix. Did your Dr say you had that? A lesion on the placenta would be something else entirely.

That being said, I had a partial previa with ds discovered at 14w, by 28 weeks it had moved. If you do have a previa, I wouldn't worry to much right now, you still have a lot of growing, so the placenta has plenty of time to move.
  • @jkmartin723 I also have this on my problem list for my pregnancy. The doctor and I haven't actually talked about it (I'm assuming they saw it when he did a detailed review of my US scans after our initial consult). I did some research on it and your doctor is completely correct - it is definitely something to keep an eye on, but most of the time the Placenta Previa resolves itself prior to delivery. The other day I found a GREAT article where they followed hundreds of cases where Placenta Previa was diagnosed in the 2nd trimester. In that, I believe 90+ percent of them resolved themselves prior to deliver. I can't find the article now (of course), but this one gives similar stats to what I remember: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24658950

  • @jkmartin723 at 11 weeks they told me I had placenta previa and not to worry too much about it right now.  I have my anatomy scan next Friday so we'll see where it's at.  I'm almost wondering if it moved and now it's anterior because like a week ago I felt a few flutters and now I literally feel no movement.  A friend of mine had an anterior placenta and she said it really cuts down on the early movement you can feel.  ::shrug::  I'm trying not to stress too much about not feeling any movement yet (I'm 18 weeks, STM) but it's kind of annoying.

  • @lostarz14 I've got an anterior placenta and am not feeling any movement yet (17 weeks). My MFM told me that I probably wouldn't feel it until closer to 20.
  • I just asked my OB about when to do a glucose test, he said not until 26-28w, but I’m seeing some of you are already getting yours. Just curious bc i can’t remember when I had it done with DD.
  • @emjohn517 mine also said around 28w.

  • @emjohn517 With both of my pregnancies, it was more around the 15 week mark. Must differ depending on the doctor's office?
  • @emjohn517 with my first and second I had it done around 24 weeks. I had GD with my second so with my third pregnancy they had me go at 20 weeks. I’m 20 weeks now and there has been no mention of it so it’s on my list of questions at my appointment next week.
  • @emjohn517 mine will be at 28w this time and it was around that same time last pregnancy. Maybe it depends if you have risk factors?

Thanks everyone, @wildrainbow Yes OB confirmed placenta is covering the cervix when he was discussing it he also mentioned seeing a few lesions that he would continue to monitor so I guess I assumed they were the same concern. Follow up ultrasound in 4 weeks so hoping things shift by then. The OB said activity can stay the same for now but any bleeding would be a concern and to go in... just trying to not stress and keep telling myself it's possible for it to move. Happy to hear you ladies who had it early on had positive outcomes.

@lostarz14 Fingers crossed for your scan next week. Keep me updated

I started feeling this baby move around 13/14 weeks. I felt her better than my last two at this point, but for the past 4ish days she hasn't really moved at all (18 weeks now). I have tried everything. Cold drinks, laying kn my belly, etc.
I cant help but worry, but the rational part of me knows I'm only 18 weeks. Anyone else doing this?
  • @100dollhairs I went through the same thing.  Movement is very inconsistent at that point and it's nothing to worry about until much later if you don't feel a certain number of movements every couple of hours (or even anything).

Baby is still small enough that they have lots of room to move without touching and they can turn and face your back where you won't feel the kicks.

It worried me, too, even though I knew it was okay, but baby's moving regularly again now.  He has his lazy days, but I feel him every day at least a couple times.

  • @100dollhairs if it helps your worrying at all: i’m 18w, 2nd time mom, and i have two in there... i’m not feeling movement much at all. i know they are fine because i just had an ultrasound yesterday where they were wiggling around, and both of them had completely flipped from breech to head down at some point in the last two weeks. @MojieJo is right, feeling movement will be be important eventually, but not at this point just yet.
  • @100dollhair I literally came here to ask the same thing.  Felt him moving much earlier than DD and then last week or so nothing.  I know he probably just turned so he's kicking where I can't feel but its driving me nuts.
  • @100dollhairs I had the same concern at around 18w! She had been really active the week before and then nothing. I called my doctor and the nurse said what everyone else is saying - they have lots of room to move, don’t do kick counts until 3rd trimester, it’s normal not to have consistent movement. They also were happy to have me drop in for a Doppler check just to make me feel better. The next week she was really active again! And then the week after less so, but we had out A/S and wouldn’t you know she was facing my back. So, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but your doctors office would probably do a Doppler check to put your mind at ease if you want.

  • @100dollhairs I’m 17W and not feeling any movement. I could have sworn I felt some movement (although not consistently) around 15/16 weeks. Now it’s nothing at all. Thank goodness for my Doppler. I was going to try and not use it during this pregnancy, but I ended up caving.
  • Glad I'm not the only one freaking out. 18 weeks and haven't felt anything this past week. I think I felt rolling the weeks prior. I feel as if pregnancy has me worrying non-stop and eagerly awaiting my next appointment each month. Hoping once there's constant movement I won't worry so much!!
  • Question for anyone who has had a prenatal massage: is it normal for them to have you briefly lie on your back? My head was elevated with a pillow, and my back was also propped up with pillows so both were above my feet and it was only for about 15 minutes. It’s a really nice spa with a trained prenatal therapist, in a specific prenatal room, so I’m not super concerned, just having a little Mom guilt. I didn’t feel lightheaded or anything like that but just need some reassurance!
  • @firsttimespartanmom I don’t think there’s anything wrong at all with lying on your back for fifteen minutes, especially if you’re not uncomfortable. I lie on my back to read my book all the time before bed

  • Thank you for the reassurance @lifesabeach85 ! Baby has been kicking all day so I feel a lot better. I got a facial afterward and made sure to tell them to incline the bed and I had my hips turned to the left side so I wasn’t fully on my back. Who knew a spa day could be so nerve wracking!

@firsttimespartanmom Yep, totally normal during a prenatal massage.

And no harm done as long as you're not feeling dizzy, light-headed or crampy when you're doing it.

For what it's worth, I don't sleep on my back at night, but when I lay on the couch during the day, I lay on my back with my head and shoulders propped up and my feet and lower legs up.  It's never been an issue in either this pregnancy or my last.

  • @mojiejo thank you! After a mental breakdown and bawling in the shower and talking to my husband and reassurance from you ladies, I think I can manage the second night out as the sober dd for this bachelorette party...keep you posted!
  • edited June 2018
@firsttimespartanmom Bless your heart for sticking it out. This actually sounds like my nightmare. Lol. I went to a local taproom to listen to some music with my parents last night (it's the kind of place where it's acceptable to take DS, so he came, too). We had fun, but I was still salty about not being able to enjoy a big girl beverage and was ready to go home by 9. Glad you survived the bachelorette weekend! It's one less thing to worry about, and I hope you had a little fun!

Adding my question to this thread as I think (hope) it is the latest questions thread!

I just found out the date of my husband's cousin's wedding.  It is on 11/3/2018 and is about an hour away, maybe a little longer with traffic.  My due date is 11/17/2018 but baby has been measuring large (even though my OB did not change my due date, my last ultrasound's measurements estimated a 11/7/2018 delivery).

If you were in this situation, would you attend the wedding?  I am not sure if I am over-thinking this (FTM and have anxiety issues) or not.  If you would not attend, what would you say to the family?  Any similar experiences?

Thank you very much in advance for all of your continued advice! <3
Nov. '18 September Siggy Challenge: Falling into Fall

  • @serabjorn I would call rather than just sending in the RSVP and let them know the situation. They wont need to send in final counts for the wedding until later on and you can let them know closer to the actual date. Who knows how you will be feeling by then.
  • @serabjorn that's a tough one. Personally, I probably wouldn't go. With my luck, I would say no, and then be 2 weeks late  :D but I still would play it safe. I probably wouldn't be feeling much like being a sober driver and being in a dress at that point anyway. My lazy butt would send my husband and curl up with take out!
  • @serabjorn I went to a wedding at 37w in my first pregnancy. It was all fine. That said, it was local (20 min from my house and only 10m from my hospital) and DD never measured big, and she went to 41w.

I think the most important question is do you want to go? If so, I think you’ll be fine to rsvp yes. If later in the pregnancy you become high risk, or surprise baby comes early that’s usually an acceptable excuse to cancel last minute. But, most babies in a routine pregnancy don’t come before 38 weeks, so you’ll probably still be pregnant at the time of the wedding.

if you don’t really want to go, or just feel stressed about it, then late pregnancy is a really great excuse to regret. You can usually say your doc isn’t comfortable with you being more than 30 min away or you feel bad asking them to count you in when you might not make it.

  • @serabjorn I agree with what everyone has said above but just wanted to add (as someone who got married less than a year ago) we had a friend who was due November 5th and our wedding was October 28th. When they RSVP'd no, there were no hard feelings at all, because I knew she was far along and probably wouldn't be comfortable. Just saying the bride and groom should understanding in that situation.

  • @serabjorn I also agree with PPs, I think it's totally your call and the bride and groom should understand either way. My sister-in-law is getting married October 20th (I'm due November 14th) 2 hours away from home. I'm bound and determined to go to that wedding no matter what (I've already looked up hospitals in the area haha). But I love a good party (sober or not) and to get dressed up (even if I'm wearing a tent) lol.

@serabjorn - I agree with PPs. If you want to go RSVP yes. I'm sure they'll understand if you can't or don't want to. With it being your first baby and the wedding only being an hour away I would have no problems going if it were me (if I wanted to, liked said cousin, etc). DS measured big for a long time and I was dilated to a 3 at 36 or 37 weeks (whenever they start checking you). He was 9lb 14oz and came out because of a scheduled c-section. I'd do whatever you're comfortable with, but I don't think it's wrong if you choose to go (or not).

I didn’t see a questions thread for this week, so I’ll ask here. S+TMs would possibly know best: I had my anatomy scan today and baby is measuring two weeks ahead. I’m 19+3 based off a dating scan done at 7 weeks since I missed two consecutive cycles but no BFP until after the 2nd missed. Today baby measured 21+5 across the board, and over the 97% percentile in all categories. How normal (for lack of a better word) is this? Is it just likely that I’m going to have a big baby or would this change the due date? The tech said she’s seen it go both ways, so there’s no real telling from her perspective. I’m not concerned, just super curious.
