1st Trimester

Still Nauseous

Hi all. Today marks my 12th week and I am still just as nauseous as I was at the start on week 6. I know "every pregnancy is different" and some people continue to have nausea into the 2nd trimester however I can't bare the thought of having to deal with this much longer. I am at my whits end with it. I've stopped working out, my performance at work is suffering, my social life sucks and the only time I feel normal is when I'm asleep. I've tried the meds as prescribed my by doc, and they just make me tired. My sister had nausea for all 9 months of her pregnancy and I am terrified that it will happen to me too. I'd appreciate any good vibes as I am feeling discouraged and I'm just sick of being sick.

Re: Still Nauseous

  • Try taking your meds right before you go to bed. I take mine at 10:30 every night. Around 10 pm the next night I start feeling a little sick again and I know it's time for another dose.

Also, doesn't work for everyone, but I find eating every 3 hours or so helps. I find if I let myself get hungry I end up really sick.

  • Nausea ending after the first trimester isn't like a light switch. It might take an extra few weeks and it might taper slowly. Nausea didn't completely taper off for me until around week 15 or so.

Definitely take the meds at night if they're making you drowsy. I'm assuming it's B6 + Unisom (Diclegis)? Try taking them at night as PP said, and see if that helps you with the nausea while letting you stay awake during the day.
And if it isn't working for you, don't be afraid to tell your OB you need something different.

If you feel up to it, I would suggest trying to eat a snack every few hours. It may help with the nausea as well, and is worth a try even if it doesn't end up working.

Good luck! Unfortunately, there is no cut off for when nausea will magically go away. I had nausea and vomiting until I was 20 weeks or so, and the only relief I got for it was from Zofran. So, I feel you.

  • My nausea lasted until about week 20, but thankfully it tapered off until late in the evening was the only time I really noticed it.  I agree with other posters.. taking a unisom + B6 before bed really helped.  Then I weaned myself off the B6 and started taking 1/2 tab of unisom.  And now at almost 22 weeks I'm stopping the unisom.  Hang in there!!
