Hello Ladies,
I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I am currently 30 weeks. I had it with my first pregnancy, so I am familiar with it. Just started testing on Friday and was in a wedding so my numbers were not the greatest ( I had no time to prep some meals for myself before hand)
I just thought maybe there are some other ladies out there with GD and wanted to chat numbers, recipes..ect. ( I tried looking for a board and couldn't find one so if there is another one out there I apologize)
thanks!!

It's honestly not the worst. This is my second time having it. Although I feel a lot more tempations this time around. Especially since it's Birthday month in my family and there will be cake everywhere!
But I just always have trouble with recipes. One recipe I really like and contains no carbs is a sausage and veggies. I cut up broccoli, zuchhni, onion, peppers, carrots put it all in a big bag drizzel a littel olive oil, some seasoning and mix it up. I cook up some turkey sausage and cut it up combin the sausage and veggies on a tray sprinkle a little parmesane cheese on top. cook in the oven at 425 for about 15 minutes. It's very good! some people put ontop brown rice. I keep it as it.
Let me know if you have questions. Or want to talk. I love knowing there are other women out there going through this same thing!!!
Back story:
I passed my 1 hour at 12 weeks, failed my 1 hour at 26 weeks by 1 point, failed my 3 hour on the 22nd but was also diagnosed with a nasty kidney infection that landed me in the hospital for 36 hours to receive IV antibiotics. My doctor thought the infection threw my results off so I retested last Tuesday.
I did did not have gestational diabetes with my son, but was borderline, at the time she decided to keep an eye on his growth before retesting or making me poke myself. So this is all new to me. I am waiting on my call to schedule to meet with a dietitian and nutritionist and will be meeting with my doctor this Friday. I did start testing yesterday and so far all of my numbers are below what the doctor’s office wants to see them at. Prior to this my doctor already mentioned inducing me a week early, which we did with my son, so I am not sure if this diagnoses will move that week up or not.

@baxter2012 Yea my doctor was going to induce me at 39 weeks. Baby ended up coming on his own, funny enough actually they day she scheduled it my water broke.
I did have a little episode the other night when I stared to cry because I felt like I could eat anything.
I wouldn't worry too much about failing the one hour, it's more common than you would think.
I know they checked in with me frequently when I was taking the 3 hour to see how I was feeling. They allowed me to sip water, which helped.
Generally the complications my doctor is watching out for with GD is a big baby (which can cause labor complications), so we have regular growth scans to see how baby is progressing in growth and I work hard to keep blood sugars below a certain level to help make sure baby doesn't get too big.

@lindsaym2106 I am having those moments too. At this time I am just trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat. Thankfully my husband has been on a low carb diet for the last month so it is making things a bit easier. With my son I went in 3 cm dilated so the induction was not terrible, I am hoping she decides to come on her own because the induction date but if not oh well.
@babbyonboard for my 3hr I was allowed to drink water the whole time. My lab also gives you a bag to keep with you if you feel like you’re going to get sick.
If you do have it you should be going to counseling on how to eat during the rest of your pregnancy. Guidelines can be different with different offices. They will want you to eat a certain amount of carbs at each meal and snack through the day.
I am already gluten free and found that lentil pasta was great because the amount of protein helps with the carbs. Another thing that is great is almond flour. I made pancakes from that and ate them with peanut butter or fruit. Or you could go with a sugar free syrup or sugar free jam.

As for me, my numbers keep trending higher even with an increased insulin dosage and eating pretty much the same foods I was doing really well on before. I'm thinking the stress of moving, stress of toxic family, and feeling like a cripple with this SPD pain isn't helping things. Plus when you're moving and in limbo between houses, your diet isn't as consistent. I'm often too tired to eat a meal or cook a real meal. Plus it's hotter than Hades outside and I don't want to eat meat or fattening things that help buffer a meal, I want cool and refreshing fruit plates and cold cut sandwiches and I can't. It's all so frustrating especially when I get bored easily of eating the same crap day after day, week after week, month after month...and now I have to be even more strict, and it's still going high. I just want to scream after meals a lot of the time.
I will confess, after my last prenatal visit I went to Cold Stone Creamery for a small treat. I haven't had real ice cream in forever, it was super hot out, and I'd never been there before...plus it's right next to the Motherhood Maternity store. As a self-avowed Sweet Tooth, I need to hand in my Sweet Tooth Card...I couldn't even finish the smallest size they have...I got halfway through and got nauseous from it being too sweet and threw it out.
@neeraja_k I know what you mean, a fruit plate or a good turkey sandwich sounds amazing! I actually emailed my Doctor this morning because lately about an hour after eating my arms, hands and sometimes my legs will feel weak almost jello-like. So she is having me test 1 hour after meals today and my lunch number was 125 (after 1 hour) usually after two hours my number is around 95-100 so that seemed pretty good.
I could go for coldstone!! That's my husbands favorite. It's hard when it get's really hot here I just want some good ice cream or popsical. This weekend it's going to be 95 with heat index of 103. I will be floating my pool! But I am too so sick of the same foods, day after day. Especially breakfast I can't eat eggs anymore!!

@calimom2524 I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who cheats every once in a while. The 4th is coming up, so I am being very good, mainly because I know I will have a little cheat that day. I find that as long as I need enough protien my numbers are really good. The one thing that I really want and have not given in to is ice cream! this past weekend was very hard, it was 95 with a heat index of 103 so it was a day I really could have gone for a nice bowl of ice cream.
Feeling super guilty agian!!!!
Today someone brought in Mexican Bread filled with Vanilla custard. I was starving so I took one. I only had like 5 bits, but it was topped with sugard. AHHHH I feel like everytime I have something like that I am hurting my baby. My husband tells me I put too much pressure on myself, because I follow this diet about 99% of time, but every once in a while I do that. But then I feel guilty. oK Rant over....
I just gorged on a small tub of Siggi's vanilla yogurt and watermelon for breakfast, because I am THAT tired of eating greasy meat and eggs. And it was heavenly...so light, so satisfying.
I seem to be swinging the other way now, the things that did affect my sugar doesn't as much now. Maybe that means I'm on the downhill swing of the whole thing.
just seeing this thread. Although I dont have GD, my son is Type 1. Although they are different conditions, they are managed similarly. I have been low-ish carb (not no carb) my entire pregnancy as we eat this way as a family for my son’s sake.
