Trying to Get Pregnant

Exercise/diet during TWW?

I have a pretty specific question that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. Due to a prolonged struggle with anorexia/chronically low bodyweight, I do not ovulate/menstruate regularly. My husband and I are seeing a fertility doctor and doing Clomid/trigger shot/timed intercourse/Endometrin cycles. We're on cycle 4 right now.

My question is this: during each of the previous cycles, I've kept up my fairly rigorous exercise routine during the TWW (4-5 hrs intense exercise/week plus a lot of walking every day). I eat pretty normally, but definitely still have somewhat restrictive habits, and I don't alter these during the TWW either.

The doctor insists that no lifestyle choices — food, exercise, alcohol, caffeine — will have any effect on whether or not I conceive. But I have to wonder if my diet and exercise habits are lowering my odds.

Does anyone have experience or insight into this?

  • OP since none of us here are doctors or know the specifics of your situation this would be a better question for them. I believe that, like you said, low body weight can effect ovulation but only your doctor can tell you if your workout routine or restrictive diet are a problem. Working out and dieting on their own should not, but it’s all about balance.

  • OP, my mom was a midwife for over 40 years with a nursing background. She always asked her clients on their first meeting to track what they ate for the next week. Then she’d analyze those notes and tell them what changes they’d need to make for an optimally healthy pregnancy. She did the same for women who were seeing her prior to pregnancy. I do believe that what you’re eating can impact your ability to conceive. Your diet should have enough healthy fats and protein to support a developing baby. Not sure if that’s included in your dietary restrictions.
Anyone’s normal exercise routine shouldn’t impact ability to get pregnant but maybe if the exercise is so intense that it takes up a lot of your caloric intake then maybe it is affecting your chances to conceive? Just my thoughts, by no means am I a doctor. Best of luck to you. My mom did help many clients who had previous issues with food & and they were able to have beautiful pregnancies with happy healthy babies.❤️
