I am sure you could have them done whenever you wanted but my FIL is a photographer and I have heard him say to me (when I wanted them) and to other people that it can depend on when you start to show and how much you're showing. With me, I ended up not getting them done because I didn't really start to show until about 6 months and it was close to 8 months before I showed enough to show up in pictures (they way I wanted).
Hopefully that helps a little. Also, maybe reach out to a local photographer who has done a lot of maternity shoots. They would know better.

31-35 weeks is usually great. You want to look clearly pregnant but not so big and swollen that you don't like the pictures. Definitely avoid the last 3-4 weeks.
