Spam & other canned meats recalled

    Is spam even safe for pregnancy anyway? Seems sketch to me...

    @Laumb11 yeah I know people like canned fish (you all are weirdos, for the record :s ), but I don't know many canned "meat" eaters.

    Not spam, but there is a particular brand of chicken that I like to use for toasted open face sandwiches with avocado and tomatoes.  

    And a lot of people eat canned fish (particularly tuna) and sausages....  (Maybe this is a midwest thing?)

    @jemmerjams - from a bacteria standpoint, canned meat should be safer than lunch meat. But from a salt standpoint, I would guess most of it is pretty high.  

    I’ve never checked the label for preservatives (another thing some people worry about foodwise during pregnancy).

    @Laumb11 I love tuna, although I rarely eat it. And canned salmon is good on salads if you can find a brand that doesn't taste like canned meat. :D But other than that, I find canned meat weird. I don't personally know anyone who keeps it in their pantry.

    Does it include Vienna sausages? I don't eat them :confounded: but my sister will get them. But yea ick.
    We ate tuna sandwiches when I was a kid, but DH won't touch the stuff, Which is fine by me!

    @coffee-saur Oh I forgot about Vienna sausages. H has some of those in my pantry. They're so old though, I wish he'd get them out of there!

    Canned salmon is good for making salmon cakes! I eat canned tuna too and I'm on the east coast @knottieamusements my whole family does too (NY/NJ) so I don't think it's a midwest thing. Spam and vienna sausages on the other hand... yick.

    My sister's grandma used to make us spam  :s

    I would eat Vienna sausages all the time as a kid. Not now though.

    Spam is huge in Hawaii! I do not live there nor have visited but I know they are obsessed with it.

    I remember being sooo intrigued by Vienna sausages when I was little and of course my mom wouldn’t buy them. A few months ago I saw them and decided to try them. Seriously nasty. Never again unless I’m starving. 
    I make some pretty amazing tuna salad though with canned tuna.

    I am literally having to google what vienna sausages are. I definitely don't eat any canned meat or fish products...yuck.

    Vienna sausages were a staple of my Grandad’s lunch box for fishing trips.  That and anchovies.   Thankfully, he usually had us kids just for the morning or the afternoon...

    @kiwi2628 @SawyerRichardson save yourselves and stay far away! I ate them once not knowing what there were as they were mixed in with some rice someone made at a family party. Never again.

    I do eat canned tuna occasionally but wasn't thinking that it was included in canned meat. Duh!

    Sardines too! When we lived in Brazil, we would occasionally get these boxes of "American food" in case we were having trouble adjusting to foreign cuisine. There were always sardines and my mom loved them. I had them on occasion and liked them, but I don't think I could stomach them now.

    I realized it sounded like I hate tuna, which I don't. Tuna salad sandwiches really aren't that bad. I'm just not like WOOHOOO TUNA SALAD!!! YAAAASSS!!! So since DH doesn't eat it, it just doesn't get bought.

It was a pretty cool experience but I think I might have been to little to really appreciate it. We also lived in Mexico for 3 years when I was a baby.
    Did you ever read the book Fordlandia? I bought it... and never got around to it. But that made me think of it.

    I only eat spam in scalloped potatoes. No canned meats or fish in any other form!
