Rants/Raves: My kid is having sleep issues. It's not really affecting me, except at some point during the day he is a bit of a pain in the ass because he's tired, but sometimes he's like that because he's almost 3, lol. DH suggested that we wake him always at 6:30 am regardless of how late he is up in bed, hoping he'd eventually be forced to go to bed on time. So far we had two days of going to bed at a decent time but still being up for an hour ish and one day of still being up til 9 pm after going down at 7. So I don't know how well this is working, lol.

@wildtot so many drive bys! Getting sick of people wanting us to play Dr.Google or give advice that’s just going to be shut down. I’ve gained more than I wanted to this pregnancy too, really frustrating, but it’s not forever. I’m pretty much on track with my last pregnancy, but a lot of my weight gain towards the end was swelling from the heat and I haven’t started swelling this time around much at all. So now I’m worried it won’t come off as easily.
@acunamatada i didn’t even think of the heat! It was spring when i had DS so i never had that sort of swelling. My ankles are definitely feeling the weight this time. I keep trying to remind myself that it’s not forever and soon half will at least go away. I start working from home in June so hopefully it will mean less swelling. Hopefully it comes off easily for all of us!
Feeling out of breath, heavy, and I wish I was more agile so I can clean better under things. Our kitchen cabinets are totally open underneath (like they are free standing) and so much dust and crumbs and toys get trapped under them. It's gross and hard to clean now that I am this big. DH could help so I may ask him this week for just that one chore.
DS has a cold = cough. I hate the cough because unlike a fever, nothing seems to relieve it. He is too young for cough meds.

Feeling like I’m forgetting to get something ready for this baby. I’m in no rush to pack a hospital bag. The rock n play and swing are still in boxes. I need to get like 3-4 boxes from storage still. The baby breeze needs to come out and get set up. I just don’t feel like urgency in getting any of this done and I’m afraid I’ll go into labor earlier then later and not have things in place. How are you feeling??? Tired and cranky. I loved being pregnant with DD and am trying to channel those feelings this time, since it my be my last.
Rants/Raves We started potty training over the long weekend and it went great! So proud of DD. We've only done poop in the nap time diaper, but I'm not going to worry about that for another week or so.
Questions? I have the same question as @d_marie_23 on introducing kids to baby! I heard long ago that it's good to have the nurse take the baby before kid #1 gets there and then bring in baby, compared to having #1 walk into Mom with #2 already. I plan to ask about that at least. I also plan to have a present there for DD from her new baby brother (a stuffed animal wearing a Big Sister shirt).
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand? Snacks/water, access to a bathroom, crayons/paper
@MichelleAG05 glad to hear potty training went well! We didn’t succeed even once i feel like our house smells like pee now and got nowhere. Seriously debating on lining the house with that plastic they layout to pain lol

Age(s) of other kid(s)? DS will be 3 on Thursday DD is 20 months
How are you feeling??? I think the same as everyone else. Tired. Feeling large. Back pain is starting. BHs.
Rants/Raves DH is starting to get a little panicky. He is leaving for an extended weekend trip on Thursday with his side of the family and DS. He keeps asking me if needs to cancel and stay home since I've been having contractions. I keep telling him to calm down and go on the trip. If she comes, she comes. My mom lives here and can come to the hospital. We'll be fine. Every little sound I make (from rolling my beached whale self over at night, baby kicking hard, etc.) "ARE YOU OKAY?!!?" Dude, chill. I'm fine. I will let you know if we need to go. This is not our first rodeo.
Questions? @d_marie_23 and @MichelleAG05 - When we introduced DS to DD at the hospital, we left her in the bassinet and said hi to him and stuff. Gave hugs - he had been staying with my mom. Then one of us took DD out and showed her to him. He was pretty young, so I don't know if he fully understood. They are only 15 months apart and super best friends now. Some people do not recommend introducing at the hospital. The tubes and stuff hooked up to you may freak them out. One friend, her DD did NOT like the hospital at all. Pretty much cried the entire time she was there. But our experience was good!
@wildtot - oh please don't be discouraged about potty training not going well Boys aren't as advanced as girls. haha. We didn't start until DS was about 2.5. But definitely continue letting him interact with the potty. Even if he only sits for like 5 seconds. We had DS sit on it before bathtime for like 6 months-ish before we started actual potty training.
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand? iPad, dinosaurs, wine (for me if this is an extended stranding) or snacks if this is just stuff for them.
Oh no, @wildtot, I'm sorry! Did you use any particular method, or think you know what went wrong? I saw you mentioned your DH put a diaper on him and let him poop in it. Dope! (Insert hand hitting head here)
@kc1293 yeah i need to talk to the sitter about her keeping up with the potty talks and take one to her. @MichelleAG05 yep and he put a diaper on today instead of pull ups. See this s why i do most of the parenting! I tell him what i read and advice i get and he takes it as that’s what we are doing rather than actually making a decision together (I never really said this is how we are doing it). We tried potty sitting every 30 mins but soon changed it to 15. We tried with undies but did a few naked hours inside and outside house. No luck other than his first poop because i saw his pooping face. He did hold it longer with out undies and showed more signs of having to pee but then that’s when DH put on a pull up (instead head hitting wall).
If you want to read more about it, I bought and used the book "Oh Crap! Potty Training" based on other mom recommendations. She's anti-pull ups and feels very strongly that once you decide to do it, there's no going back - you push your way through. It has tons of advice about different issues that might be encountered but is basically: Step 1 - naked time with you watching him like a hawk for signals and running him to the potty if/when he starts to go. She strongly recommends no distractions for mom and sure enough, the only 2 accidents we had all weekend were when I walked away from her for 5 minutes. Once you recognize his signals and frequency you move to Step 2 (which is where we are so I don't know/remember any of the later steps) Step 2 - Add clothes, but no underwear (commando style). Don't ask if he needs to potty, but every X minutes (less than what you know his frequency is) prompt him that it's time to go very matter of factly, like it's not a choice.
You're supposed to add into Step 2 small trips outside of the house but we forgot to do that yesterday other that pool time in our yard which doesn't count. She did fine in the car on the way to school this morning and I'm praying it goes well at school. Step 3 adds in underwear, but she recommends staying in Step 2 for a couple weeks, because she believes the tightness of underwear can trigger muscle memory of a diaper.
I didn't do pull ups with DD on the recommendation from a friend. She said they are just diapers. You couldtry putting undies on under the diaper to catch big leaks but the kiddo still feels the wetness from the undies
@MichelleAG05 yikes, we did everything that book says not to do.
I'm a strong believer in not pushing kids to potty train. In my opinion it only stresses out the child and the parents to push it before kiddo is ready, plus it's just not effective. DD is 2.5 and for 2-3 months now has been using the potty pretty regularly. Sometimes she will tell me "I have to go potty" sometimes I tell her ok we need to go sit on the potty now and sometimes she just goes in her pull-up. Yup, she's still in pull-ups. She can communicate needing to go and I think she understands the idea since she will usually go potty when sitting on the potty. I admit that part of it is my laziness and the comfort of pull-ups but I feel like she's getting it and using the potty more and more. She often goes to the bathroom with me pulls down her pullup, pees then pulls it back up. She's also good about using the potty at school. That being said, she wakes up with a pull night diaper every morning and I am not sure if she's ready to go pull-up free all day every day just yet. I am probably screwing this up....
I think each parent knows their child best and what will work for them. If I had picked up this book and thought "there's no way that'll work for DD", I would have just thrown it in the Goodwill box (like I did a couple other sleep and parenting books). DD has also been in pull ups full time since January and sitting on the potty regularly at school, so I knew she had the fundamentals down and was ready for something like this.
So, I don't think it's possible to screw it up! I just caught up on the Weekend Random thread and saw there's a ton of good advice in there too.
I didn't do pull ups with DD on the recommendation from a friend. She said they are just diapers. You couldtry putting undies on under the diaper to catch big leaks but the kiddo still feels the wetness from the undies
My sister recommended the same thing! She works with kids (some on the spectrum) and she helps with the potty training while they are there. I really want to refrain from pull ups too. Any advice on how to remove pee/smell from carpet and couches? I’m seriously using the dog version of sprays for the accidents (wish we had more flooring that’s not carpet!). No matter how quickly i clean it i can still smell it (thanks pregnancy super smell!)
@wildtot no advice on the removal of furniture stains and odors but I was recommended puppy pee pads under towels, lol, whenever on the couch or other furniture! Worked pretty well.
How far along are you? What size is baby? 32 weeks, apparently the size of a squash but feels more like a watermelon.

How are you feeling??? Terrible. I was having an easy pregnancy until recently, but now I am in a constant state of heartburn and sciatic pain. The sciatica was so bad this weekend I was in tears on multiple occasions. I am going to a chiropractor tomorrow and have HIGH hopes.
Rants/Raves: See above regarding sciatica....
Questions? Anyone had a natural birth? I had horrible spine pain with my epidural the first time, so I want to go natural this time. But...if I am going natural to avoid pain...LOL. The epidural pain felt like the sciatica I'm having now, with shooting pains down my leg that were so intense. I had a fast labor the first time, so I'm wondering if I can just tough it out. DH was useless during labor last time though, and I don't think a doula is in the cards. Any tips?
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand? Endless snacks, water, baby wipes? I hope to not be stranded with my kids LOL
@wildtot no advice on the removal of furniture stains and odors but I was recommended puppy pee pads under towels, lol, whenever on the couch or other furniture! Worked pretty well.
The problem are the sides of the couch lol he likes to hide and face them
@limoncat is the gas an option in your hospital? That was my only option during labor but I was at home for a while so I could move around and progressed quickly. I arrived at 9cm with back to back contractions, pretty pissed I couldn’t get an epidural. I wish I prepared more as far as breathing techniques, because I was really erratic. Slowing down my breathing, laughing gas, and lots of swearing got me through it. I’d like to go natural this time around too if this baby cooperates, so it must have not been that terrible lol.
@d_marie_23 is your son in any EI? Mine is just aging out of birth-3. While I don’t think they helped that much with his speech- though that probably varies by teacher- I think it’s really expedited the process with town services at 3.
@limoncat moving helped me a lot, and the shower. So as the contractions got to the point that I had to stop walking and hold DH to get through them, I would squat down. It helped me relax my pelvic floor muscles and focus less on the pain and more on the balance and action of squating. I was aware the first time that I was tensing up at contractions so the second time I tried to focus on not tensing my lower body and pelvic region as I was contracting, and just breathe through the pain. I did this in the shower for awhile using the bar, then got out and used the bed or DH as a prop to squat down. I probably did this for every contraction until transition and then I was pushing. If you can make it to pushing I feel like it gets easier because I felt like as long as I was pushing, it wasnt painful. DH was basically a prop the first time around, and second time around he was better at knowing what to do. You could just tell him in advance his job will always be to physically support you while you move around and in whatever position you are in.
@acunamatada He is. He started at the week of his 2nd birthday for speech delay but kind of veered in the direction of sensory issues once they started actually working with him, they've really done no speech at all with him. He's a very tough kid to profile and confuses the heck out of EI. They're actually working with us in pushing for town services right now since all preschools around us are tuition based which is unrealistic for us. But, of course, he's that kid that definitely has some sort of sensory issue but can't be pinpointed on paper, so it's doubtful we'll get it.
@wildtot I use pet stain/odor remover for toddler accidents. One of my boys yanked his poopy diaper off the other day and he and his brother stomped poop into the carpet. Can’t even tell after I cleaned it up with the pet stain stuff! We are currently using the Arm & Hammer with OxiClean st7ff, but we’ve also used Nature’s Miracle which also worked great.
One of my boys yanked his poopy diaper off the other day and he and his brother stomped poop into the carpet.
*snipped* I’ve never been more thankful for wood floors
@d_marie_23 ugh that’s so frustrating, I hope they pull through! Looking at preks was so stressful, they’re all daycare prices around us too.. Would’ve been way too expensive since I stay home. And try not too feel too guilty.. Though I totally know the feeling, I think a lot of it is out of our control.
@limoncat I was epidural free and fast delivery with DD - I did have a general narc so I could sleep since they assumed I'd be going for hours and hours like a typical FTM - so I had 3 hours of labor, slept through 2 of it, then just as I was like "yea get the epi" she was already crowning so no epi for me. I'm terrified of the epi due to other medical crap so (assuming I don't need a c and a block) I'm going epi free again. DH just kept repeating what the nurse said and I kept telling him to STFU. I honestly just moaned through it and took it one contraction at a time knowing i could change my mind if it got too bad.
How far along are you? What size is baby? - 31 weeks Age(s) of other kid(s)? - 2 as of this weekend How are you feeling??? - +1 for the feeling like crap team. I feel about 10 weeks more pregnant than I am. He's super low and out front. Heartburn, shortness of breath, horrible SPD/wishbone pain, Rants/Raves - So many tantrums lately.... she'll be her normal happy self and then BAM doesn't get exactly what she wants when she wants it and devil child comes out. I know it's a phase but already so over the struggle. Questions? - Nothing new, following the "introducing first born to second born" and potty training sagas. We've introduced the potty but aren't pushing it since she just turned 2.
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand? tablet with unlimited wifi/battery, goldfish, blanket/binky
@gingerbride26 ugh my H did the same thing in labor.. Parrotted everything the nurses said, followed by “I know babe” when he could tell I was in pain. Lots of STFU’s and “YOU DONT KNOW. YOU HAVE NO IDEA”
@acunamatada I know right!? already this time around when I've had some nasty repetitive cervical kicks that made me keep jumping in bed he said something patronizing and I threatened to go get DD and have her punch him in the dick repeatedly and see how he liked it. Actually I guess kharma really is a bitch - at her party DD walked up to him and grabbed a handful of junk without warning and wouldn't let go until he started crying - so then she started crying and I had to comfort her while his mother died laughing at him.
@acunamatada@gingerbride26 and @SmashJam, thank you all for the advice! It is good to hear from people that have actually survived a natural birth. My induction went really fast with DS, so I hope for a fast labor again. Before I got the epi, moving helped a lot with the contractions, but at one point DS's heart rate was funky so they made me lie down. At that point I was like f this and got the epidural. I just talked to chiropractor about it this morning and she said that the hospital I am delivering at is very supportive of natural birth, so maybe I'll have a better chance this time of avoiding the epidural. She also said it is mind over matter and I need to believe that I can do it. I am going to try to get my head in the right place in these remaining weeks, because I currently feel like I'm living in fear of giving birth! I don't know if gas is an option, but I'm going to ask my OB at my appointment tomorrow.
OMG @gingerbride26, thanks for the visual and laugh! HAHAHAHA
RE: natural birth, I planned for that with my first but always kept in the back of my mind that I would be okay with an epidural. I honestly believe that if I had been adamant with myself that I didn't want one that I would have been fine and gotten through the pain without. But because I told myself all along that it was okay, I got one about 3 hours into a 6 hour labor. I will likely get one again this time, but I do plan to try and wait as long as possible to avoid stalling out my labor progress.

How far along are you? What size is baby? 33+5 celery
Age(s) of other kid(s)? 3.5
How are you feeling??? between the insomnia, and the heart burn we have a new contender starting yesterday rib pain. oh and nausea is back... 5 more weeks... 5 more weeks...
Rants/Raves I feel like I am the only one trying to get things ready for baby to come. everyone keeps telling me oh relax you have time, but lets be real 5 weeks is not that much time.
Questions? None right now
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand? snacks, water and some truck toys.
Age(s) of other kid(s)? DD is 2
How are you feeling???
34+5 weeks. Someone said canteloupe, so sure!
Age(s) of other kid(s)?
DS will be 3 on Thursday
DD is 20 months
How are you feeling???
I think the same as everyone else. Tired. Feeling large. Back pain is starting. BHs.
Rants/Raves
DH is starting to get a little panicky.
@wildtot - oh please don't be discouraged about potty training not going well
GTKY: If you were stranded with your kids what are the three things you hope you’d have on hand?
iPad, dinosaurs, wine (for me if this is an extended stranding) or snacks if this is just stuff for them.
Step 1 - naked time with you watching him like a hawk for signals and running him to the potty if/when he starts to go. She strongly recommends no distractions for mom and sure enough, the only 2 accidents we had all weekend were when I walked away from her for 5 minutes. Once you recognize his signals and frequency you move to Step 2 (which is where we are so I don't know/remember any of the later steps)
Step 2 - Add clothes, but no underwear (commando style).
So, I don't think it's possible to screw it up! I just caught up on the Weekend Random thread and saw there's a ton of good advice in there too.
Age(s) of other kid(s)? 2 years, will be 3 in August
I’ve never been more thankful for wood floors
@d_marie_23 ugh that’s so frustrating, I hope they pull through!
Looking at preks was so stressful, they’re all daycare prices around us too.. Would’ve been way too expensive since I stay home.
And try not too feel too guilty.. Though I totally know the feeling, I think a lot of it is out of our control.
How far along are you? What size is baby? - 31 weeks
Age(s) of other kid(s)? - 2 as of this weekend
How are you feeling??? - +1 for the feeling like crap team. I feel about 10 weeks more pregnant than I am. He's super low and out front. Heartburn, shortness of breath, horrible SPD/wishbone pain,
Rants/Raves - So many tantrums lately.... she'll be her normal happy self and then BAM doesn't get exactly what she wants when she wants it and devil child comes out.
RE: natural birth, I planned for that with my first but always kept in the back of my mind that I would be okay with an epidural. I honestly believe that if I had been adamant with myself that I didn't want one that I would have been fine and gotten through the pain without. But because I told myself all along that it was okay, I got one about 3 hours into a 6 hour labor. I will likely get one again this time, but I do plan to try and wait as long as possible to avoid stalling out my labor progress.
