I saw a pregnancy announcement on Facebook this morning. The announcement and accompanying comments have my raising my eyebrows like crazy:
- The EDD is apparently 1/15 (so at most she's what, 6+1?)
- A few days ago she was posting about the "shit ton" of alcohol she drank over the weekend. Therefore she has only just found out she's pregnant (at least I would hope so!), but she's already announcing. Also, there is no way she's had a dating u/s yet, so she could really be as early as 3.5 weeks.
- She's only 20, which could explain the overzealousness in announcing so early. Yet some of her friends have commented that they've been waiting "so long" for her to have a baby.
- They've already decided what the gender "must be" based on her symptoms.
@bdream0916 My parents were 21-22 when they had me, but both had stable careers. I know age alone isn't an indicator of responsibility/ readiness to be a parent. Here, there were just so many other eye - raising factors, and the age provided some useful context.
@ashva I honestly don't see a problem with people announcing early. If that is what she is comfortable with, I'm not sure why you are judging her for it? There isn't some written rule we have to wait until the second trimester.

@AshVA I think it's just a personal choice and only you can decide what is best for you. She obviously feels comfortable announcing the pregnancy. Maybe she wants the support from her friends and family if something goes wrong.

I agree it’s each mothers choice when she shares the news but perhaps there is a difference in sharing with close friends and family as soon as your find out and your several hundred (probably not so close) Facebook buds after a weekend of binge drinking. Just a thought...
@eleven_ To each their own, sure, but it's still highly unusual. I don't think it's unreasonable to raise eyebrows at something highly unusual (especially given the other points I mentioned), even though of course it's her decision.
Also, just from the overall context, it seems more likely to be tied to the invincible/ "nothing really bad can happen to me" mentality that I think a lot of people (myself included) have when they're 20.
It's really on her if she wants to announce the world. But from experience it sucks having to untell the world. So hopefully she doesn't go through that hell.
@AshVA - How do you know this girl? It doesn't sound like you're that great of friends if your judging her announcement. Also if she wants to tell the world early that's her deal and she'll learn the hard way if something happens.
@galactickates Somewhat distant relative that I'm not actually facebook friends with, but whose announcement nevertheless ended up in my Facebook feed. I don't think a close relationship is necessary to comment.
And again, the very early nature of the announcement is only one of several points I mentioned. She announced her pregnancy three days after she announced a weekend of binge drinking. I don't think eyebrow raise is unreasonable given the totality of the circumstances here, and if that makes me judgmental so be it.

This for sure is a factor. We always tell a few people early because I know there are some people who will "get it" and have been there for me for each of my losses. I don't think telling early in some context is ever a bad thing. Announcing on FB or other social media is a much trickier ledge to walk IMO.
Major WTF moment.... and yes I’m being a judgey B, sue me.
Man at work went full Forest Gump today and he wasn’t being ironic. High waters, sneakers, plaid shirt, etc. The wtf about this is a coworker had no idea wth Forest Gump is.
DH just told me after he got off the phone w his sister tonight that she actually got married at court 7 years ago and kept it a secret from everyone.
Then asked if we could go to Australia in 2 months bc they’ll be doing a small wedding ceremony for the families (DH is from Australia). We’re legit both like:
I told him for all we know, she may be hiding 5 kids somewhere. WTF.
@AliKay20 7 years is a LONG time to keep a secret from close family, wow! I wonder why she didn't want to share the news earlier? Maybe it was for immigration purposes or something (totally speculating here) and the upcoming ceremony feels like the 'real' wedding to her.
Love that Ross gif also, ha. And his margarita that looks like milk.
@AliKay20 my husband and I got married at a courthouse and kept it secret for a little over a year before we did a big wedding for family/friends. Our circumstances were related to a military deployment, but it was so hard to not tell people for that long! I can’t imagine 7 years For us, we chose not to tell people because we didn’t want that to take away from our wedding ceremony and celebration later if people already knew we were married. The only person we HAD to tell was the officiant because we had a marriage license that was a year and a half old haha
I went to my endrocinologist appt today, well Wednesday, and since I'm about to turn 36 she said it is considered a geriatric pregnancy. WTF. I was like 'Whoa, that is an awful term. ' And she laughed and said, 'yeah, I prefer advanced maternal age'. Rude.
apparently it was bc of immigration purposes. Little did we know though bc we thought we were the first to get married from his side yet his sis had 4 years on us! It must’ve been hard keeping it a secret for this long though. They’re really happy together and we always wondered why they weren’t engaged yet (been together for a long time). Now it all makes sense, sort of.
@molosmiles Seriously. I always glare at the OB when he says something like that. He should know me by now that he can't say any of it without getting the side eye. I'm 36. Not 80.
@sparkymcgeee I know my OB will have to say something about my age but after I had my 2nd and we were talking about if I wanted more, be said he doesn't really worry about age until you are over 40. But we'll see now that it is actually upon us. He better not say geriatric though. He might get more than an eye roll, lol
You guys. I promise and hope this is the last WTF moment for the week but I just hummed a tune and my dog (Westie) ran over to me wagging his tail really fast then proceeded to air hump. Never have I ever witnessed him air humping to a tune. I tried to recreate it just now so I can get it on video but he’s done. I need the weekend now.

It's amazing how if you're in your late 30s and pregnant, it seems to be frowned upon. Like, I got my crap together first then decided to have kids... whats wrong with that I just turned 32 and don't think any one in their 30s is too old to have kids. Heck, there are women in their 40s and 50s popping them out just fine. Now would I have a kid during those years.... heck no...lol. If this little bean sticks, our family will be complete.

I understand I’m not exactly a ‘young mom’ - I will hit 35 with this pregnancy which qualifies me for AMA - but if a professional dared to call me geriatric I don’t think I would be welcomed back at that practice any longer, it just wouldn’t be pretty.
We’re currently on a 4.5hr drive - about an hour and a half in I had to stop to pee. Not even two exits past that I already feel like I have to pee again. Wtf?!?! Constant need to pee is so not fun on a car ride.
@mrsmang that has been happening to me! I'll pee before I leave work, and then 20 min later when I get home I already need to pee again. It's the tiniest little trickle too. SO frustrating! Also the pee parade all night long is ridiculous too!

@gorgeousariel I’ll keep you guys updated on how bad it is by the end. I was just saved by a stop to eat dinner. Went once at the beginning and once at the end (accompanied by promptly losing my dinner, because of course) so hopefully I can keep it to one stop before our final destination in about 2.5 hours.

I told him last week that we got the reminder that our septic system needed pumping, and he told me it's nowhere near time...
