Secret FB Group

Hi moms-to-be anyone interested in a secret FB group for January 2019? I am apart of another FB group with over 200 members but its hard to feel like it's a secret with that many ladies.
My last pregnancy I joined a smaller group that was great and supportive. So I created a smaller group for anyone interested. Just search Frosty's Sleigh Ride on FB. Its a closed group so only members can see the post. Congratulations to all and hope to see you there!

What is with these Knotties and the way - to - soon Facebook groups?

I mean, slight kudos for at least not naming it something that clearly outs members as pregnant to anyone who happens to glance at their group memberships, but still....

When I was on my first BMB, I naively joined a FB group early on, but also stayed active on TB and joined another group after DS was born.

That first group was DRAMA city. I don’t think anyone was a catfish, but oh, the crazy. The second group is amazing (though, yeah, we’ve had a bit of drama).

After you’re on TB for a while, you kind of get used to the format of threads, and it carries over to the FB group, so there’s not as many “Dear Diary” type posts.

Seriously, speaking from experience, wait it out.

Because it eliminates the anonymity of the board. We have real names. Real pics of family. Real profiles that almost anyone can browse. I don't want people to know who I am at this point. I don't know anyone here. I don't want strangers that I've talked to a total of 3 weeks to know anything about me that I'm not willing to provide.

Internet safety is something you should be aware of and take seriously. I swear I don't understand why we have to explain this so many times on so many threads a month into our board.

Lots of reasons, mostly relating to internet safety. People share a lot of personal information on here, including health info, family drama, and work concerns. In turn, others can offer their advice and support. Most people would never share personal information like that with complete strangers using their true names, but we're able to do so here because of the safety of anonymity.

Right now, I don't know anyone on here well enough to trust them with my identity. Even if most people on this BMB are perfectly normal, trustworthy individuals, a small subset of participants are likely to be BSC and untrustworthy. I don't want to risk some crazy person deciding I've offended her, Google stalking me, and then sharing my personal information with my employer.

Further, other BMBs have had issues with catfishing in the past. This typically involves an individual worming her way into the group's trust, then inventing a terrible sob story in the hopes that group members will pitch in to send her money.

Generally, a *safe* facebook group isn't open invitation for anyone on the internet to join. Rather, it's a by- invite-only deal for small groups that have interacted enough to decide they trust each other. I'm in a Facebook group of former TTGPers, but it took us a LONG time (and an interim private Bump group) to get to the point where we trusted each other with our real names.

TLDR: Be careful who you trust on the internet.

Oh andplusalso, just an example of the crazy that can happen. On my last BMB we had been with each other for well over a year. We did a sunshine mission (essentially we all send sympathy cards and gift cards to someone after a loss to spread some sunshine) and one of the members then had another members address. She legit tried to open credit cards under this other persons name. She was an idiot and the card company shut it down right away but we trusted this chick. We were with her for AWHILE. One time is all it took for information to be stolen and used in a horrible way. So yeah internet safety y'all. She got the IP ban for that BSC stunt.

@sparkymcgeee, wow, that's crazy! I can't imagine someone doing that after knowing the person and being online friends for a whole year. That's terrible.

DEAR GOD. I get it now. I tend to be very reserved with anything on Facebook anyway, but if people want to be nasty, they'll find a way. So unfortunate. I've seen some nastiness and condescension on here as is even with the anonymity.
