Re: AMA Check in 5/13

  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date? 36. I'll be 37 next month.

    2. How far along are you? How big is your baby? 5 weeks. I'm an apple seed this week I think. I'm trying to not get too excited right now.

    3. How are you feeling? I feel fine. Which is scary for me. I really want to feel some nausea this week. I'm tired but I need more symptoms.

    4. Anything exciting coming up this week? Another beta and progesterone draw. Then hopefully they will see me. They are essentially waiting to see what my HCG level will do before the deem me worthy to have an appointment. It feels like they are waiting for the pregnancy to fail.

    5. GTKY: Do you have any pets? Are you worried about them with the baby? If you have kids already how are your pets with your kids? I have two cats. One I've had for 9 years and she's sweet and tiny and fluffy. One we got two years ago and he's huge and super affectionate and a bit of a troublemaker. They are both really good with the kids though.

    6 weeks 5 days— baby’s a sweet pea

    3. How are you feeling?
so tired. Soooo tired. Also pukey on and off.

    4. Anything exciting coming up this week?
first appointment incl an ultrasound. I’m PGAL and knew after my first us with my loss that it was going sideways so I’m really nervous

    5. GTKY: Do you have any pets? Are you worried about them with the baby? If you have kids already how are your pets with your kids
I have 2 cats and one of them loves my daughter and the other avoids her. I figure they’ll be the same. I have a dog too and she likes my daughter cause she drops food lol but she’s 100 years old so I don’t think she’ll still be with us when my this one is here. She’s in the “are you sleeping or.....” stage

    1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date?

    36, will be 37.

    2. How far along are you? How big is your baby?

    5 weeks 3 days

    3. How are you feeling?

Ok. I’m less gloomy than i was last week but I’m feeling very detached from the whole thing. I had a beta draw last week and they said the numbers looked “good” so they scheduled a dating ultrasound on the 21st.

    4. Anything exciting coming up this week?

not really haha. This weekend we have a family party with my husband’s family which should be a lot of fun, aside from everyone side eyeing my lack of alcohol consumption.

    5. GTKY: Do you have any pets? Are you worried about them with the baby? If you have kids already how are your pets with your kids?

Our dog passed away in October. He and my little dude were best buddies so it’s been hard. He was so good with him from day one. We’re waiting until we move and have the baby to think about another.

if anyone has questions or concerns when it comes to dogs and kids (or dogs in general) I’m a dog trainer, so please feel free to ask!

  • 1. How old are you and how old will you be at your due date? 37 now, 38 then.

    2. How far along are you? How big is your baby? 5+5 It is the size of a dot snail

    3. How are you feeling? I am beyond exhausted. I was hoping for some rest this weekend, but we had yard work to take care of. It wiped me out. I waver between being so freaking hungry, to instantly nauseous, and feeling light-headed.

    4. Anything exciting coming up this week? My bonus son graduates from high school this week! It is bittersweet. So my MIL is coming to town for the weekend to celebrate. I'm grateful for something to pass the time until my appointment 5/30.

    5. GTKY: Do you have any pets? Are you worried about them with the baby? If you have kids already how are your pets with your kids?

No pets. DS has so many issues with allergies, we just aren't ready to test the waters.

    5. GTKY: Do you have any pets? Are you worried about them with the baby? If you have kids already how are your pets with your kids? Yes, we have a dog  his name is Trigger. He's a Belgian Malinois/Sheppard mix. He's great with our 2.5 year-old son. We aren't concerned with him around other children. What I am concerned about is that he's eating my flowers! Lol! The dog loves to dig in our flower beds and uproot bushes and flowers. Lol!

I recently saw a post on a training board I’m on about digging, they suggested building your dog a dig box (basically a small sandbox for your dog) so they have somewhere to get out their digging urge without destroying your garden. You can even hide treats and toys in there to encourage him to use it. I thought it was such a cool idea.

This us a sad question for me. I had a dog, my first "baby," that I got in 2009. She was so special to me. When I had DD at first everything was fine, but when DD started to run and shriek, my dog basically, well, lost it. The vets calked it "maladaptive behavior". She started running away and attacking other animals in the neighborhood. She started growling and snapping at DD. She stopped eating. Eventually I had to rehome her with a coworker. She is doing great now, and very happy in her new home. There are no children in her new home.

Giving her away was the hardest and worst time of my life. I thought if she was not going to respond well to DD, it would happen right away when we brought DD home. I didnt expect it to happen when DD was 18 months old. I felt blindsided and just broken.

We do not have any big pets now. I have helped DD raise tadpoles from the pond, and butterflies from InsectLore. I'm looking forward to DD getting her first small pet (guinea pigs) when she is a few years older.

  • @luckymay2x That is so sad! Im sorry you all went through that. Its surprising. How old is your dd? My guy is just over two, and we got chicks this spring. (for the family, not for him, really) He says they are cute but isnt really interested other than once a day. Im curious how he'd feel about tadpoles and butterflies, that is such a great idea!
  • @boxheadkid DD turned 3 in Feb. We did tadpoles for the first time last spring and she was only mildly interested. She was excited to release them when they were tiny frogs. This year is is more interested and likes to help me change water and feed them.

With the butterflies she was only really interested when the butterflies came out od their cacoons. So pretty normal for a toddler  :)

I'm a scientist, so I'm all about learning biology through little experiences. We do other science stuff, too (measuring things with a kids measuring tape, using a kids scale).
  • @boxheadkid - that's neat you got chicks, my town doesn't allow chickens at private houses. I'd also love a goat!

***lurking*** @luckymay2x That's so awesome that you do that with your DD! I spent my childhood doing similar things which definitely impacted my career choice :) What area of science do you work in? (I ask because I'm a scientist too).

I have 2 cats. I'm not worried as they are both very sweet and well trained. I swear one "knows" I'm preggers because he's been keeping extra close and giving me extra kisses lol.

  • @tosh24 I'm a toxicologist ☺. What kind of scientist are you?
  • @luckymay2x I'd love a goat! Funny story, the place we got the chicks makes you choose them yourself bc they are straight run (both sexes mixed together) but i wasnt thinking clearly and chose ones i thought looked "sturdy" considering they were going to be around a toddler.... Well, we have 75% roosters its looking like!! Oops
  • @boxheadkid lol! You might have a noisy yard!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. You made the right choice for everyone but that must have been SO hard.  :(

  • @julesf817 it was hard, and I was really afraid to talk to people about it. I was afraid they would judge me, like "I can't believe you gave your dog away! Did you try X?" (We tried everuthing - more exercise, personal training, meds). I was a total wreck.

I know it was the right choice because when I gave her away, I was very upset for a few months, and then I just felt a huge sense of relief. I didnt realize until then how worried I had been that something would happen to DD, or another kid or animal in the neighborhood. And I felt so terrible that my dog's quality of life was deteriorating ans there was nothing I could do. She really just needed a new environment, one i couldn't give her
