Trying to Get Pregnant

TTA/Benched week of 5/14

This thread is for those who have started TTC but are now TTA or Benched. (There is also a TTCAL "sister" thread.)

***General TW that this thread can and will mention MC and loss.***

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have hit a roadblock and are delaying for whatever reason. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on not TTC and connect with others who are in the same boat. TTC can be a long journey, and having to wait makes it feel even longer -- even if it is for a good reason. I invite you to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Benched = involuntarily not NTNP/TTC and "out of the game," usually due to medical reasons
TTA = avoiding pregnancy by using protection or FAM, usually for non-health-related reasons __________________________________________________________________

Re: TTA/Benched week of 5/14

  • Are you benched or TTA? Benched

What brings you here? We had our IVF cycle cancelled 3 weeks ago and the medication I’m on for priming means no TTC naturally.

How long do you think you'll be here? Hopefully I will be given the green light for IVF #4 by end of next week, but there is also a high risk of being cancelled again which would mean another month. I stopped posting in the dailies as in the end I was not WTO and I have no TWW this cycle.

How have things been going? With the stress of getting everything organized to start, then the stress of being cancelled, now the stress of the side effects from the priming medication. Stressful. I feel like it’s my new full time job on top of my already full time job.

Any R/R/CS/Q? We wanted to do some prep work on the garden at the weekend but I ended up being useless. Between my RA making working with my hands always a bit tricky and the estrogen totally knocking me out each time I apply a new patch... I mostly slept and fetched drinks for DH whilst he worked. He is great about it. But I feel bad.

GTKY: What fad or trend do you hope comes back? I think I’ve kept most strange fads going that I liked!

@emmasemm Sorry about the constant stress and that the medication is knocking you out. That sounds really rough.

Are you benched or TTA? Benched.

What brings you here? I have surgery for a uterine septum scheduled for May 24, then at least a cycle after that for recovery.

How long do you think you'll be here? About 1.5 months is everything goes smoothly (ha.) We’ve been trying for a couple years and this diagnosis is pretty new, so it doesn’t feel *that* long in the scheme of things. If it makes my chances better at this point, I’m willing to wait.

How have things been going? Alright. I’m almost welcoming the mental break right now, even if it’s frustrating sometimes. I was getting really negative and hard on myself these last couple months. After I’m off the bench we’ll likely start FSH/IUI so I’m looking forward to hopefully making some progress.

Any R/R/CS/Q? Not really. Nervous about the surgery though.

GTKY: What fad or trend do you hope comes back? I’d like a-line skirts to be easier to find I guess- weren’t they more popular in the 90s?
  • @rallykat14 thanks for the support! I know you’ve had more than your fair share of waiting.

@lin0442 How come you got the diagnosis for the septum so late in the process?
I had a funny US last month. My left ovary is always tricky to see, but the doctor who did it said she thought it might be stuck to left side of my uterus, slightly behind it. My new RE took a look at the scan and said he doesn’t think it will affect my next ER, and he’ll try to get some better pictures whilst I’m under for ER. Which is ok as we are banking so aren’t planning on a transfer this time. But it’s like, why the hell did my previous RE never talk about this?

@emmasemm Ok well *deep breath* I had a 13 wk loss shortly after we started trying (I’m 26/18 now), and the doc wanted me to try for a bit longer after my workup came out clean. So a bit after I hit the year mark of active ttc I asked for an HSG in 10/17 which came up positive for ‘maybe a little weird’. My follow up hysteroscopy got rescheduled like 4 times for different reasons (doc sick, overly long af, a CP) and was eventually performed 3/18. My OB decided that it was arcuate and didn’t need to be followed up on.

I saw my RE the first time the next day and she wanted to follow up on it anyway, so I got a MRI 4/18, which disagreed with the hysteroscopy. She wanted to make sure the septum seen on the MRI was operable before getting me in the OR so I had (another) hysteroscopy at the beginning of this month, where the septum was pretty darn visible. It’s almost funny, because I floated the idea to my OB waaaay back right after my first loss and she was like ‘eh, it’s rare I wouldn’t worry about that.’

My old OB isn’t my OB anymore. I feel like I should have followed up with her sooner to start workups, but oh well. At least my RE now is thorough

Good luck with your ER, I’m sure REs deal with shy ovaries all the time!!!
