Monday BF (May 7)

A bit late starting it, hopefully since nobody else decided to run with it, it really wasn’t needed.

So a taco bell opened in my town and I was SO excited. I went and ate there probably 2 times already. Well news just broke out that a worker there had HEP A. That in case you did not know is highly contagious and spread fecal/oral (as in can be spread by food just like stomach viruses). My emet brain is FREAKING OUT because it sounds like a 2-6 month stomach virus that hurts your liver. My liver has raised enzymes already for no apparent reason so thats a concern in the back of my mind too. All I can think about is that person, while off work now, has infected the whole restaurant. The bathrooms there, if that person goes to get gas, they probably grocery shop etc. Its everywhere in my brain. I know there is a vax for it and I tried to get it but the pharmacist said its Cat C and will harm the fetus. Que tears. I called my Dr and they said its okay to get but I still may get hep A if exposed. At that point its like well if the vaccine is Cat C and I still might get it I may as well not since its 120 dollars I cant shell out and DH already got his. (240 total for both of us...) I would do anything to keep my babies safe but I don't know what to do now. The plan I guess is to just wait it out and see if it goes away or spreads in my community. Taco bell is covering none of it although it released a statement saying to get the vaccine. I am so torn and fucking angry. I get privacy laws regarding health but possible food spread illnesses should be tested for imho. Probably an UO.

TLDR I am never eating again nothing is safe in my mind.

@SweetSweetTooth Aww poor bunny! Doggies can be a pain sometimes. I am glad they are getting help soon!
  • Oh my gosh @ninji15. Not an UO in my book and I seriously hope you’re okay. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. When can you get tested/will you know if you’re in the clear?
  • ninji15ninji15 member
@chopchop25 They say incubation and symptoms won't show for 15 to 50 days so anywhere within that time or after I can get a blood test and make sure I don't have it. If I do there are minimal treatment options, pretty much a waiting game.  Some people don't get symptoms and if it happens I am so hoping I won't. Most importantly I just want the babies to be okay. It can cause preterm labor and if I have it giving birth to them they can catch it too. I am just going to do all I can in the meantime. Lots of hand washing and hoping.
  • @ninji15 I am so sorry that you have to deal with that. fx for good health for all of you.
  • @ninji15 we had a Hep A case in a cafeteria worker at the hospital I work at. Any patients who ate food for about a week, and any staff who ate from the cafeteria in another stretch of days were advised to get the vaccine. This was in March. Of course the ONE DAY I ate from the cafeteria in the past 6 months, was one of the implicated days. I got the vaccine - but it was covered by the employer.

  • We've had a ton of Hep A outbreaks in SouthEast MI lately. It really sucks. I've had one round of the vaccine but got super sick after it, so I never got the 2nd.

Hopefully you're okay and everything will be fine. Its super stressful though.
  • @ninji15 yikes! That's scary! I'll keep you in my thoughts!  <3

  • ok so now with the baby bunny issue DH has made me feel like crap as I didn't take precautions. I am having a crappy day because all that is running though my head is if I can't check to see if there are bunnies in the yard before letting the dogs out, how the heck am I going to be a good mom and keep a kid ok? I understand his frustration and I feel horrible for the bunny getting injured because I didn't look. Trust me I am doing just fine on making myself feel bad. Doesn't help I have no patience today and the dogs are driving me bonkers. Ugh thanks for letting me vent and get it all off my chest.

@SweetSweetTooth sorry you're having a rough day! I think I remember you saying something about you had thought all the bunnies had cleared out? So there was no reason to recheck every time you want to let the dogs out. Accidents happen, and to the best of us! That doesn't mean you're gonna be a bad mom. You'll be aware next time you let the dogs out and learn from it. Don't beat yourself up too much I know it can be hard not to
  • @SweetSweetTooth sorry you're having a bad day! Like @mamabearcj said, if you'd thought they were gone already, I wouldn't have checked eithe.

A couple weeks back our new dog caught a lil cotton tail bunny in our  backyard. DDs came running inside saying Bunny had caught a bunny and I needed to come rescue it quick! I had to pry the dog's jaw open and picked up the terrified lil guy. He had a couple outward injuries so I brought it inside and put it in a big, tall, box with a small Kleenex box to burrow in. At first, the lil guy stayed in his Kleenex box and didn't come out for water or the carrot sticks we gave it, but within a couple days it was eating several carrots a day and some lettuce mix we'd gotten from a local greenhouse. I figured I'd let it go in the morning, since it must be feeling better. Next morning, I check the box, and the picked up the Kleenex box and NO BUNNY!! I asked DH and the two oldest who were up eating breakfast, where it was and got blank looks back. We searched EVERYWHERE and DH finally leaned the sofa back and there he was! DS tried to grab him, then I tried and the lil bugger squeezed out a crack maybe 2in wide, and DISAPPEARED again!! DH finally found him across the room, in the entry behind a snow shovel. We caught him and let him go across the alley in an empty lot with trees and bushes.
The kicker was, we were trying to leave to go to Denver (about 3 hr drive) to do some shopping and we'd wanted to leave as early as possible! We were going to a friend's house for supper and night, so we got there a bit late.
Anyways, thought you'd maybe get a kick out of our bunny adventure and know they can get happy ending even if they're injured!

@mamabearcj and @coffee-saur yes, the bunnies were out of the nest for a few days, but I guess they (or at least ours!) hang around the area and still may be nursed by mom. bunny is at the rehab and had an issue with it's leg ( grr) but hopefully it will be ok. good thing is I won't get updates so I will just assume the little thing is fine. My heart did melt a little seeing this little bunny in DH hands. He can be such a softy and I think that is why he was so upset. He still was cold today but it seems to be getting better.
Coffee - loved your story! It did make me smile so thank you!
mamab - gotta love how our brains work. assumed everything would be ok and didn't so now I am going to be a horrible mother. thanks scum bag brain for escalating that quickly! It ticks me off more as I tend to be overly cautious (to the point of driving people crazy) that when I do decide to relax a little it always goes wrong... and people wonder why I stay the way I am! lol
edit for extras because I forgot!
  • @SweetSweetTooth you're not a terrible person! You'll still be a great mom.

This may or may not make you feel better...but it has to do with bunnies and dogs...when DH was young, he had a bunny (that he named after himself). Well his dog ended up eating the bunny. I think his mom  told him the bunny ran away. I knew about this story forever. Well last Christmas or some holiday, my in-laws were telling me that someone else in the family had a bunny named Baldy and another one named Lefty. Lefty only had one ear, so I'll let you guys guess how Baldy got his name. Anyway, I can't remember how the bunnies lost ears, but I think they did it to themselves. So, these animals were family pets and they managed to get injured, etc...so don't beat yourself up about a dog being a dog, or a bunny being a bunny. Dogs are going to chase after other animals, it's in their nature. As my dad would joke, "you can't let nature run wild!"  ;)

Also, within 1 month of me taking my mom's senior dog into my house, we had to take him to the ER. Because the damn dog ate a bloody tampon. He's not a big dog, so I was freaking out about the tampon swelling and blocking his digestive tract, etc. I felt horrible and felt like a terrible dog mom (was month 2 of DH and I owning dogs, we had just brought home a new puppy the month before). He's fine now, they made him throw it up and we kind of laugh about it now. You can imagine the male vet's discomfort when he had to ask me "um, was it a used tampon? Because there was a lot of blood." PSA for those who didn't know: dogs love dirty tampons. And underwear.
  • @SweetSweetTooth aww, you won’t be a bad mom, you obviously care too much for that to happen.  My kids have done plenty of things that I could choose to beat myself up over or just accept that things happen.  The worst 2 were when one fell down an entire flight of stairs @ 18 months (MH was pissed I “let” that happen) and the other one fell and slammed his face into a step, chipping his 2 front teeth @ 22 months. Both times the pediatrician asked what happened and both times I had to answer “I don’t know, I wasn’t in the room.” I felt bad, but kids will be kids and do stuff like that. Our pediatrician even told me not to feel bad about it and said her own kid fell down concrete steps at about the same age (& she only had 1).

@ninji15 Ugh! I’m sorry you have to deal with that.  Fx you didn’t get it.

  • @ninji15 - I am so sorry you are having to deal with this.  Unfortunately, it can happen at any restaurant anywhere. Have you checked with your insurance to see if they would cover the cost of the vaccine (or at least apply it towards your deductible)?
  • So this is a really silly BF, but it fits here best. And really I just laughed.

DH is 6'3", so with SS he took an umbrella stroller and altered the handles to make them taller. Occasionally I look on FB to see what his ex-MIL is selling because she sells crap all the time. She's selling the stroller for $8. I jokingly told DH he should buy it.

Coincidentally at drop off tonight, his ex wife offers "first dibs" on the stroller if he wants to buy it. He asks how much... $20! She even mentioned it's online, so we could easily see how much she's trying to gouge the price. We both just laughed at it.

@knottieamusements I tried and they denied it. Both our insurances did. It’s super lame.
  • @ninji15 probably a shot in the dark here, but you haven't had the hep A vaccine before, have you?? It was one of the things my OB checked at the first blood work. Freaked me out because the result comes back all red and positive on the online portal. I texted my mom, turns out I've apparently had the vaccine before  but I have no idea when that would have been. (for this test, it reports positive if you had the vaccine and still have antibodies or are immune or whatever it's called)
  • It would depend on age. The Hep A vaccine wasn't introduced until 1995 and most states didn't start requiring it until the early 2000s (if they do at all). I was 20 when I got round 1 and my Dr said I hadnt had it because it didn't become popular until my early teens.

@jemmerjams I am trying to find out! When my liver enzymes were really high they tested me for Hepatitis (I assume all of them since they didn't know what was up with my liver..?). It came back negative. I was born in the 90's so I would like to think I have had it but I am not sure. My shot records from infancy do not indicate that and mom didn't keep anything beyond that.
  • @sammierose464 Get a friend your ex-MIL doesn’t know to go buy it for $8!

    2 things:

    1. I wanted to buy more undies from Amazon basics because apparently my uterus is bigger now and requires larger underwear. But the only color they have in my size is WHITE. no. no. no. White underwear terrifies me.

    2. I made guac for dinner, but accidentally dumped too much salt in it. holy crap it was salty. And now I'm really thirsty and already downed 24 oz of water and am super full but also extremely thirsty. Bitching at myself for that rookie mistake.  :s
  • I finally got my genetic test bill this week. Originally it was estimated to be $0, I just got a bill for $530. I called them about it, and they told me that my bill was correct and insurance covered half of it. I'm frustrated because it was before my deductible reset so it doesn't even count on this year.
